FIFA 12: TSO rolls out the first online FIFA transfer league

Hey everyone, your friendly Turk Mr Hedache to tell you it is finally here. Some of you will remember my efforts on starting the imultiplayer online franchise mode. Well this is not it, but it is the closest thing I’ve got so far that is less hassle to administer and does not require any extra other site but just stay on TSO forums to be a part of it.

So I was checking out Creation Center in easports.com. You can create a tournament. Add teams to it. Set up the teams with a squad, stadium, 3 jerseys, a crest, sponsor on the jerseys and some other info.

Then you share that tournament on the web site. From there on, other people can log in to their creation centers and bookmark the tournament. Then on your XBOX, you go to the creation center and download the tournament. Once you do this, the tournament shows as one of the countries in your team selection screens. All the teams are now listed along with all the other teams in FIFA.

Next thing, when you are playing online friendlies, if you select custom instead of online for rosters, the tournament you downloaded will also be listed, so you can pick one of the custom teams you downloaded within the tournament and play with it against your friends. Which brings us to the TFL transfer league.

Here is what I will be running here at TFL:

I will create the TFL tournament.
Everyone that will participate (hoping around 8 to 10 very dedicated people, don’t wish to expand at first but it will once it looks successful) can send me the information and required data for their custom teams (instructions can be found in this thread). Like images for their logo and jersey sponsor, team name (should be totally unique to ourselves, preferably associated with our TFL forum name, like Hedache FC or The Richvilla, AJ French Lover, etc).
I will create each team based on the information I receive.
Then the exciting part begins. You can import licensed players that are from EA’s regular rosters into these custom teams. We will do some sort of a live fantasy draft (that will be called transfer window) at the best time possible where everyone will have to participate, but as an alternate you can set up a list of players up to like 100 or something that I will automatically pick the next possible guy for you if you can’t be there (but it will be tough and tricky, wait for the rules).
Transfers during transfer window will be based on a point cap system, where points will translate into overall ratings of the players you can transfer.

Let me try to explain:

As you draft, you will have 2 buckets of available points (think of it as your budget just not in dollars) to use for overall ratings of players.

A total of 850pts will be available for transferring your highest rated 11 players, which gives you an average of 75+ overall rating per player.
A total of additional 625pts will be available for the rest of the squad which is 9 more spots (7 subs and 2 reserves).
You will have to transfer a player for each one of the 20 spots and minimum overall rating of the player you can transfer has to be at least 55.
Think of your squad sorted from highest overall rated to lowest. Your top 11 can’t exceed a total of 850, and the remaining 9 can’t exceed 625.

I already created a Transfer Planning Tool where you can try out combinations of transfers to fit the cap. Before we start, this page will be embedded to a thread so you can easily find and access it.

The official overall rating we will use for a player will be the overall rating used on EA Sports Creation Center. Unfortunately it is not as simple as it sounds. Thanks to EA, there are some inconsistencies with the overall ratings. First of all these overall ratings do not match the ones on your console. Secondly, they even change when you add a licensed player into a custom team squad. Some players stay the same, some drop a point or two for some reason. Official price of a player will be the one you will see in the corner of his profile picture after you add him into a team. Note that what you see on the roster sheet doesn’t matter since a different rating will be shown based on the position of the player, so remember to look at his profile picture for the official rating we will go by. You can create a dummy team and add players you’d like to see in your team to figure out their actual costs for your budget cap.

During the transfer window I will try to create a page where you can see your available points and stuff. I can use that page for you guys to track your available and used points from your budget throughout the season. This page will also most likely be embedded here at TFL forums. I will manage the rosters for the whole league.
Once the draft is finished and teams are finalized, everyone will be able to download the whole tournament to use for their league games. There will be a transfer system as well, which will be based on a mixture of trading players or trading players for available points to transfer other players, or both.
Example:I want to transfer Messi for x amount of points (doesn’t have to be 94 which is his rating as long as you can afford it) from another user. Which will mean I will be dropping someone (let’s say Suarez who is 85? Let’s assume) on my squad to the free pool, opening up 85 (or 84) points available (rules to come on this). And let’s say because of the way I did my transfers, I still had 15 points available in my top budget (safely assuming Messi will fall into my top budget). I offer 6 points for Messi to the other user (sounds low but I am actually offering 100), and I get Messi, give away 6 points from my overall available top budget and use 94 to have him on the roster. While the other user gives Messi to me, opens up 94 available points for himself, plus he receives my 6 extra points that I am bailing on added to his total available points known as his budget, and he can make his own transfer moves to adjust and get back to 20 players total. I hope that is clear enough. It may sound confusing but that’s how available budget points will start moving around between clubs.
When transfers are done and approved by administration, it will reflect every Thursday or something. If there is a transfer approved, I will apply it to the tournament and publish the latest version, and you will all have to download the latest rosters for our tournament from creation center (you can see if there is an update at creation center). We will have our mini EA system.

To make the rest of the squad more usable, we will be implementing an injury system that’s been discussed. A more strict suspension system where 2 yellows are a suspension, and straight red gets you 2 games, red from a second yellow gets you 1 game plus if you had a yellow for that player before, another game for hitting the 2 yellow cap. That way there’s some cycling in the rosters.

I think this will be the easier and a very fun way to do the transfer league. Addition and removal of teams will be easy as well. Players will drop into the free agent pool. With the cap system, any new comer will have access to pretty decent free agents anyways to build his team. It’s no different than coming into TFL and having to pick a 4 star team, while we have 5 star teams. It’s actually a better situation to come into this league.

This league will be running along with the regular TFL season. In that sense, you will need to be a member that has proved dedication to FIFA and soccer to be a part of this to ensure a smooth experience for everyone. For starters, it will start as a 10 team league, but once we feel confident about the success of this going forward expansion to the league will be available in the future.
