Yep. Houston is a straight up beast and a proven pass rusher in the 3-4 defense. His size and athletic ability will cause havoc on a quarterbacks comfort especially when we throw Raji up the middle double teamed and Matthews off the other side double teamed. Guy can smoke chronic all he wants if he just gets in there and knocks skulls.
I think if Phil Taylor is there when the Bears pick they'll take him over Sherrod. From what I've read, Taylor seems to be more highly thought of as a prospect, and the Bears could use a big body on the DL. Mayock had the Bears taking Jonathan Baldwin with their 1st rounder in his mock draft last night on NFL Network. Most Bears fans wouldn't be happy about that but I wouldn't have a problem with it. It would be nice to have a WR prospect on the roster that's taller than 5'10".
Well my mock draft was dog shit...lol. But most are once the draft comes. I cannot complain about my Boys pick, filled a huge need with the best linemen in the draft. He's 6'-5", 310 pounds and runs under a 4.9. He benched 225 pound 29 times despite having the wingspan of a condor. His measurables are simply eye popping and his potential is off the charts. Some guys have a ceiling, they are limited by their athleticism. Smith has no such limitations. This guy has the potential to be a fantastic lineman for us.
My thoughts on the draft: Tennessee saves Minnesota from being the team everyone talks about for the worst pick in round 1. Ponder was a reach in the middle of the round, but Jake Locker in the top 10 was a shock. Aside from the Locker pick, the top 10 wasn't too surprising. I really liked Cleveland's move to trade down and acquire a boatload of picks. Atlanta mortgaging the farm for a WR (top 10 WR's are VERY risky picks historically) is a huge gamble. The Lions getting Nick Fairley could make that DL the scariest in the league if the kid plays like he did last year next to Suh. I am very happy with the Bears pick of OT Gabe Carimi. Most mock drafts had him going top 20, I didn't think they had any shot at him. And my good friend Cole mentioned that Carimi owned the 3 Big 10 DE's that got drafted in round 1 this past year, so that's a good sign.
Best pick of the first round: Mark Ingram gives the saints another weapon in the backfield and now we can finally let Reggie Bush ass go
That Saints offense will be absolutely lethal with a RB like Ingram to keep teams honest. That kid will be ROY and a star in the league for years to come. Great trade and pick by the Saints.
he will get plenty of touches along with Thomas(if he stays healthy) that way Drew can do more PA again..I know he will be our go to guy inside the 20
Reggie Bush is not going to be back, and Pierre Thomas can't stay healthy. I think he'll have a real shot at it personally.
I agree. The Titans and Vikings picks were terrible IMO....did you see Mayock's video clips of erratic ass Jake Locker after the selection? I can see Locker being a good QB, but damn if he is worth the 8th pick...IDK
I've got to think that the Titans drafted him as much on intangibles as anything. By all accounts, Locker is a great kid, a tremendous leader and extremely popular in the locker room. Kind of like Tebow, but without the winning. They must think that his accuracy issues and 'happy feet' in the pocket are the results of playing with lower tier offensive talent and poor coaching. I just can't fathom why else they'd make that pick. But at least with Tennessee and Minny, if those picks bust it's just the one pick that is lost. If Julio Jones turns out to be more David Terrell than Terrell Owens, Atlanta is sunk. They gave up 7 picks to draft a WR, and based on the playoffs, they have a ton of issues on defense that still need to be addressed. The more I think about it, the more that trade doesn't make sense in my mind.
Yea, as much as I like Julio and as happy as I am that I will be able to go watch NO @ ATL this season (Ingram vs Julio), that seemed really really dumb. I don't know why they didn't just sit back and wait to pick up Raheem Moore or Aaron Williams. They need secondary help very badly. I would even have waited for Bowers or Reed for the Dline.
haha. i think he'll be really good. I just dont know how many touches he'll get even if he is the only RB. Why take the ball out of Brees' hands? Edit: it is definitely possible though. if hes really good theyll run more.
My initial thought is Thomas is the better RB and a viable every down back. Where Reggie Bush is over payed and doesn't really produce a whole lot.
If he does get a good amount of carries and he produces with Thomas, Drew Brees is going to light some people up with less pressure on the passing game.
Because Bush is going to be due roughly $12 million this year... And he is not going to take a pay cut
That wouldn't shock me at all, but what does that have to do with this discussion? He got sacked 57 times last year, several times by DT's who came in nearly on free rushes. I honestly don't know how he started as many games as he did. Carimi will help, since he likely comes in and starts day 1 at RT.
Yep, that's exactly it. Bush's contract for this year (which isn't guaranteed) would call for him to get around $11.5 million I believe. They aren't paying that for a guy who can't stay healthy and is a better receiver than HB.
Brian - how did you feel about the Browns passing on the 6th pick? Personally, I think that it's a great move. They avoid paying a top 10 pick and picked up 6 additional picks in the process. If they use the picks well, they could really rebuild that roster.
