What do you guys think? I am digging the attacking AI, first touch, and the face up control is pretty cool (RT + LT). The game seems fast, but very smooth. Looking forward to playing with lower ranked teams.
Only playing the demo on the PC at work now so I can't really get a feel for a lot, as I've never played on a PC before and I'm just learning the controls. I like the AI runs a lot - the curved runs and stutter steps are great. The Player Performance charts after the match are spectacular.
God, I hope not!! After the match, next to the player Ratings tab is a tab with Player Performance that shows (an example from my game for Mario Goetze): ATTACKING SHOOTING - 50% Goals - 0 On/Off Target - 1/2 PASSES - 75% Assists - 1 Completed: Short/Medium/Long - 5/3/1 Failed: Short/Medium/Long - 0/2/1 Key Passes - 0 Crosses: Successful/Failed - 0/0 MOVEMENT Key Dribbles - 0 Fouled - 0 Successful 1 on 1 dribbles - 0 DEFENDING TACKLING - 0% Won/Lost - 0/0 Fouls - 0 Penalties Conceded - 0 POSITIONING Interceptions/Blocks - 0/0 Out of Position - 0 BALL RETENTION Possession Won/Lost - 1/2 Clearances - 0 Headers Won/Lost - 0/1 There's also a heat chart that shows where the player spent the most and least time on the pitch. If that's not in the console version I'm going to be really disappointed!! Here's a screen cap:
Pretty fair so far as I can tell, but these may still not be the final ratings, and there are only a small handful of teams to go by. All of the YouTube guys kept emphasizing that there's no team in the game (except the World XI and Legendary XI) that have more than two 5* players on the team, so there could be more balance at the higher levels. I'm really curious to see how that shakes out at the middle and lower levels - were they grading on a curve, or did everybody get knocked down a notch? And I can't judge how the players are playing - I have no idea how to do so on the PC. I really just wanted to see how the game looked. As for appearance and stats tracked on the Player Ratings page (vs Player Performance page I cited above) they're the exact same as FIFA 12.
They're the same as in 12 - same look, same stats tracked. That's why I was so jazzed about the Player Performance chart...
right...but are they all flat-lining like they were in 12? A bunch of 5.5 ratings and maybe a 7.0 if you scored 2 goals? Can you have a good rating without scoring a goal?

Well, Bufon gave up two goals to me (and lost 2-0) and still had a 9.9 rating and the MOTM, so I don't get how they come up with them. So there's still some 'splainin' EA needs to do.
At least now I won't have to feel bad about skipping the USMNT vs. Jamaica in favor of the demo, I suppose...
FIFASoccerBlog @FIFASoccerBlog1m Looks like the #FIFA13DEMO is on the US PS Store NOW! Search for "FIFA 13" and get downloading.
I've played about 5 games, quick impressions: - Remember when you kick off in FIFA 12 and the CPU seems to automatically press the ball? That seems to be gone completely...good news. - I haven't seen any giant headers that spring a 1-on-1 after a goal kick...good news. - There are more fouls being called, but I've still noticed some obvious calls slip past the referee...improving. - Player ratings are a bit better, still see the same thing as 12, but I have noticed some higher ratings (8, 9) even without a goal, which is good. Will have to wait and see how it affects CM growth - First Touch and Complete Dribbling (or whatever they called it this year) are really nice additions.
The game looks and feels very polished. Like most have mentioned I would love to see how this translates ranking wise with some of the mid/lower tier teams. Can't wait to get a full game in also. Come on Sept 25th! Off topic but have you guys found any discounted deals or is everything 59.99 at this point? (I know Amazon has like 20 dollars off Fifa for xbox at some point last year). Just trying to do damage control on my wallet.
- First touch seems to have an effect on tackles as well, a lot more variation and not every tackle is a sure-thing now. I've had a cpu tackler make a good tackle, but the first touch went back to my player, which almost never happened in 12. - Judging by the bronze level games pre-match, skill challenges are going to be VERY addicting, and hopefully improve everyone's skill as a player.
More games, more impressions: - I don't like how some players seem to do the face up thing by themselves. - the 4-2-4 formation is going to be annoying online, but it should be pretty easy to beat...there is NO midfield presence at times - I've seen a much much better variety of player match ratings in the game...as long as the ratings match for both users online, MotM could make a comeback
One more on fouls... you know how you could smash circle to jostle your opponent with your shoulder? the ref plays advantage on that if you do it too much and eventually calls the foul if you win the ball back. What the ref DOESN'T seem to understand is the big collisions between players that leave someone on the floor. I've only seen one foul called on that type of play, and although they don't happen too often, when they do it seems like a foul should be called.
The two most exciting things I've heard so far are the lack of huge headers leaving to 1v1's with the keeper and the variation in tackles. Those were two of my biggest pet peeves in 12. Can't wait to get my hands on the demo tomorrow now that I finally have some free time.
Two things not touched on yet: when a defending player goes to ground in front of you, your player recognizes that and puts a little flick on a short pass, sending it over the defender instead of right into him. I don't know if this will be tied to any skill or rating level, but David Silva did it several times for me last night. It's a nice touch so you don't have to sky a pass or whip it in when you only want to send it 10 yards. The push-pull mechanic is a nice touch, but needs some work. Chasing balls into the corner is going to prove a fun fight, as I've pulled a man just before he's gotten to the ball and been able to win it deep in the offensive end. On the other side, though, I've pulled the hell out of an opponent who was free in on net, in the box, and didn't get a penalty called on me. Watching the replays, the ball-carrier's body twisted and stumbled because I was tugging him so hard, but each time, he either got a wayward shot off or my keeper rushed out to shut him down. I suppose in each case, the AI didn't allow enough time for a foul to be called, but it was a clear offense.
Is containing still on? Is uploading highlights still hassle? How is scoring by curving the ball? Easy like it was, or harder?
