Anybody play this yet? I was somewhat disappointed. Felt VERY similar to NHL 11 even though I've been reading for months about how many new improvements were made to gameplay and all that jazz from the dev team. Unless the retail version is drastically better, I might wait until NHL 13.
didnt know it was out. i'll have to fire up the ps3, download and ignore it just like the madden demo.
new controls , i dont like , used r 3 to shoot the puck , used also r 3 to pass too which is ok , i liked the old school 94 controls from nhl games. its canucks vs bruins in 3rd period with cancusk up 3-0 allready and you play just 1 period.
I'd have to disagree with this. Gameplay is far smoother. Checks aren't ridiculous like they used to be. Computer skaters actually skate to open ice and play defense instead of standing around in a zone and getting walked nonstop. And Sportyfan, it's a random score for the Canucks/Bruins game, along with HUT demo and Be a Pro demo.
controls aren't new, they've been the same for the past 3 years...takes some getting used to if you havent played any of the recent ones but the option should be there to switch to 94 controls...at least in the full game if not in the demo. the game isn't always 3-0 in the third...they just sim the first 2 periods. i had a 2-2 game in the third, but yeah, only play one period, 5 minutes. gameplay felt very similar to 11, 11 was good though so thats not necessarily bad. new animations with running into the goalie, didn't play long enough to notice a big difference. i got checked through the glass once, it was not a good animation, partly because i never touched the glass, my player hit the boards below the glass and the glass broke...not impressive. body checks don't feel as big, a bit more realistic feeling there. theres supposed to be big improvements in the be a GM mode, which i didnt really play last year, but none of that info was on the demo. if i get the game it would primarily be for an online league here, so far that sense, game play at least seemed promising, even though not a huge jump from last year.
The game feels exactly the same as 11 to me.. kinda disappointed.. not that its a bad thing, just doesnt bring enough new stuff to the table.
I will be buying it for sure even though it's basically just a patch with a few updates from 11 i absolutely love the NHL games.
Same here, NHL 11 was by far the best its been on the next-generation platform. I am totally fine with subtle tweaks for improving an already great title.
Agreed. Gameplay feels much better, but then again, I had about 1000 games played of 11. I can totally see guys who didn't play much not noticing the changes, but personally, I can't even play 11 if I try.
