    WERDER BREMEN TAKES THE COPPA!
In a highly anticipated Coppa Tradizione Final, we had Aston Villa hosting fellow Serie A side Werder Bremen. Aston Villa still remains in the Serie A title hunt, while Bremen had a strong finish in league play themselves. From the start, Aston Villa started the attack early. However, they were unable to get a quality chance at the goal. Then in the 13th minute, Bremen's Marko Arnautovic had space in the left side of the box. He blasted a shot, but keeper Shay Given deflected it away. Marko Marin picked up the loose ball for Werder, and looked for a chance to get the ball back toward the net. After maneuvering his way around the defense, he played a cross back to Arnautovic. Villa GK Given tried to rush back to the block the incoming header, but he couldn't quite get back in time. Arnautovic had scored the opening goal, and Werder Bremen had the early 1-0 lead. The remainder of the first half saw few other chances from either side, and the clubs went into the dressing room still at 1-0. To switch things up for the second half, Aston Villa subbed in Emile Heskey for the underperforming Nathan Delfouneso up top, hoping to spark something. In the 69th minute, it began to look as if that sub was going to make a difference, as Heskey bolted a shot from just outside the box. Instead, Bremen GK Tim Wiese deflected the shot away, avoiding danger. The game was neck and neck the rest of the way, and Aston Villa again had a great opportunity to tie up the match in the 84th minute. Just then, Darren Bent had an open shot from about the penalty spot. However, his shot was within Wiese's range, and the keeper caught the ball to forever stifle Villa's chances. The final whistle blew, and Werder Bremen had come away Coppa champs with the 1-0 win. The win salvages the German club's season, and brought the first ever cup loss to Coach Zikry, ending his sensational streak. The clean sheet for Bremen was due in part to Wiese's goalkeeping, but also in large part to the Werder Bremen defense. Villa had numerous other attacks that did not result in a shot, as the Bremen defense played top notch to keep one of the Serie's top attacking tandems scoreless. In fact, the three attackers for Villa combined to complete just 16 of 38 passes. Werder Bremen will now have time to celebrate their Coppa triumph before Season 4 kicks off next month.
