Fulham and Everton struggle to a scoreless draw in London

With both teams looking for a valuable 3 points that could propel them up in Group B, neither could convert nor score in yet another intense game between the two English clubs. It was Fulham however that will be left wondering how they didnt come away with at least a goal. The game was relatively even in the first half, with neither teams taking any risks conceding first. As the game progressed, it was the Londoners who started to control possession and create chances. After the break, the home side took full control of the game, dominating possession and applying pressure to Tim Howards goal, however the GK was up to the challenge and Fulham couldnt get a clean shot in goal. Frustration grew on both sides as both managers knew a 1 point can prove fatal in their chances of advancing. The result leaves Fulham with 3 points from 3 draws, and Everton was knocked out of the competition with 2 points. This also ensures that Wolfsburg will advance to the knockout stages - with a game pending against Rennes. Fulham needs Rennes to lose to assure the 2nd spot in the group - a draw leaves Rennes with 3 points as well and tie-breakers will decide.

"It was a disappointing result. I thought the lad gave maximum effort - couldnt ask for anything more - well maybe a goal, but it just wasnt meant to be. We had our chances and we could have decided our fate - but now we wait and see. We wait and see" - Hokie79

gg IJGator - i swear i feel like we always play to a draw in all of our matches! How did i know i would get 3 draws in this group...geeez... gota root for Wolfsburg! What is the 2nd tiebreaker btw? Goals scored or goals conceded?

Hoffenheim escape the Group of Death with a draw against fellow Serie A side Fiorentina. Despite the early lead and lion's share of possession, the home side allowed the visitors a glimmer of hope with an 81' goal, but TSG were able to kill off the game in the final minutes.

This is the first time Manager BESHIKTAS made it out of the group stages since he played semi-finals in the first cup tournament. QPR wants to go as far as they can in the cup and make their fans happy.

Good game danwin , good luck in the league. It was a good game under snowy conditions which I hate to play in snow.

    MOTM: Eminike

Spartak Moscow clinched promotion in their third match of the group stage with a strong offensive showing against Dinamo Moscow. Early goals from Eminike and Welliton set the tone, but Dinamo clawed their way back at the end of the first half to reduce the deficit to one with a late goal from Kuranyi. Spartak had a strong second half however to keep the lead, and after an early exit from the tournament last season will find themselves back in the knockout round this season.

Good game Nickaepi and good luck in the remaining ones.

A truly epic match with Nickaepi, decided on an unfortunate penalty in the 90th minute. A key save by the home German keeper in the 73rd minute decided this match. That one was a lot of fun!

A game that the Germans most likely had to win to advance, and they couldn't pull it out. Wolves and CxMacx10 shut down the passing lanes better than any team Stuttgart had ever faced. Stuttgart had a lovely chance to take the lead and possibly second place in the group in the 81st minute with a perfect cross and header, but the effort was wanting as Cacau sent the ball wide of the frame. In the end, the Germans were incredibly lucky to escape with even a draw as a break at the death by Wolverhampton saw the ball rattle off the inside of the post, skirt across the length of the goal line, and skitter into touch as the final whistle blew. Best of luck to Wolves going forward!

Yeah. This was definitely one of the most exciting matches I've been a part of in a long time. FYI- The referee was seen being escorted out of the stadium with heavy security after the penalty call. Dinamo fans were throwing blunt objects at him and yelling Russian obscenities, as he barely escaped the venue.

But since nobody can tell the difference between a Russian curse and a Russian plaudit... It was definitely a home town call. Ibisevic attempted a back pass to a wide open Kuzmanovic, and was gently nudged a few seconds later. Most unfortunate.

But since neither one of us progressed out of the group stage (I could only manage a draw with CxMacx10), it all amounted to nada.

Let me know when you can play tonight. As far as beating you by two goals well let's just say that I played FIVE games last night and I believe I scored ONE goal so unless you score a couple of own goals I doubt I will be moving on......

I will say that defensively I am decent and much improved from last season. With that being said it feels like I am playing a man down all the time. I know I usually win possesion but that's mostly because I am passing from my defenders to my mid fielders trying to create for my forwards. But it feels like I never have space in the attacking third and again although I have improved defensively it feels like most times my opponent has much more space in my defensive third. last night my goalie played exceptionally well otherwise the scores would have been ugly.

So I guess I am asking the guys that have played me to please give me any tips that may help me create chances, let alone finsh chances because that is another issue. One another thing that I need help on is corner kicks. I have give up many goals on corners but have never scored on a corner kick. How do you successfully get the header on goal? I always miss the goal if I even have any oppurtunity to head in a corner.

Anyway to all the guys I played last....very good games!

I have to agree - defensively you are very solid. I struggled to get much from our game last night aside from that one time Dempsey had 2 seconds to take the goal. On corners - it all about timing the jump and jostling for position (offense and defense). I let in alot of goals from corners as well early on - now I usually control the strongest defender and one that can jump and it has helped. As far as directing it (From my experience), you have to adjust whether you are doing it near post or far post and try to direct your shot accordingly as you time your jump. If its landing square in the middle, I usually don't even try to direct it - by default I think AI goes for goal. It also helps having a giant in there - for me it's always Hangeland who scores (3 goals so far off corners). With the tall guys, you can even try your luck with the 2nd ball (instead of heading for goal, try to flick backwards or pass it towards goal) - this usually starts a scramble in the box and a lucky bounce here or there can grab you a chance of goal.

On offense -my advice is to work on your build-up early in the game to gain some momentum and possession - have your MF or even fullbacks advance the ball. Don't hesitate to pass the ball backwards too to make the defense spread out as well and create the space for you. If you got wingers with pace - use them (whether they can cross or not is another story) - but apply the pressure early and you can always pass the ball back if nothing is there. Finally, i find it that reversing the ball quickly moves the defense and making quick decisions can usually get you an opportunity to create something (since the defense will be shifting to the ball). My offense has improved from last season (my first with all these settings) - but still alot of work is needed on my end - especially on the finishing end. Also - dribbling/jostling is the killer. I am awful at it - just know the basics - but the teams that are excellent in dribbling and have the players to do so are the ones that just shoots at will - I can never get the hang of dribbling though, but I can spot the managers who has this advantage right away. It makes a BIG difference i think since you can beat defenders alot easier (stressful to defend for 90mins) - esp slow defenders like mine.

I'm no expert (as my position and ranking shows!) - but just wanted to share what I think has helped me improved in my short time in this league.

Thanks for your response it is much appreciated. To jump for a header off of a corner is that the L1 button? IIRC L1 is also the jostling button. If so what's the difference jumping and jostlin or are there two different buttons to use that I am not aware of?

I try to work on build up and pass backwards quite a bit and that is why I have good possesion numbers but I will use pace more. I am always weary of losing possesion in the attacking zone that I forget to use pace more often. I need to definitely work on my dribbling but again I am so worried about losing possesion in the attack zone that I rarely if ever use L2 + R2 for dribbling. I assume that's what you mean by dribbling or am I missing something when you say dribbling? As you can see I am not very knowledgeable about futball in general like form, shape, player's attributes and you can also see that I don't utilize all the buttons properly for all the different moves in this great game. The worst part is after I overcome all my mental challenges and actually have a chance to finish I get way too excited and miss the net entirely!

But I will say this that despite all my losing and frustration at times with what I like to call the WTF! moments, I am still having a blast playing in this league and that is a testament to all the quality players we have here!

A few things to improve your offense... Learn who on your team can do what; don't try to dribble with player who has bad ball control and dribble ratings because it usually will fail. Don't send crosses into the box if you don't have strong players who are good headers of the ball. Another thing is learn what the opposing team can't do and tailor your attack to that; you don't attack Barcelona the same way you would attack West Ham for example. Another way to get space in the final third is to make a player off the ball to make a run (press L1) and run the person you are controlling into the space that is created when the cpu defender follows the run that your teammate made. As for corners aim the camera at the best header of the ball on your team, put it in the box, jockey for position aim the stick towards the goal, shoot and hope for the best. Hope this helps. Cheers!

More great advice. Yeah for whatever reason I rarely send a player on the run using L1. Definitely need to practice that. As for the corner advice to aim it's the right stick correct? Sorry I know I should know these answers but thinking about my attempts on corners I think I worry about getting my guy in position to have an attempt to head the ball that I don't think I use the right stick to aim and that is probably the reason I rarely get a header on goal....again i need to overcome my mental challenges..ha!

Thank you guys for the advice it is truly appreciated.

Left stick to aim just like taking a normal shot on goal
