so...question about free agency. considering i offered contracts to 5 guys, and every single one of them i offered MORE than they demanded. all 5 of them apparently responded saying they were offended with my offer or big laugh. do i just need to offer significantly more to have a fighting chance at signing guys? or is something broken in the game with their demands?
hmm...live and learn I guess. i could understand being outbid....i Just didn't understand why they were laughing in my face for offering more than they asked. I assume just because I was still far under another offer?
Most guys also fall apart - the failure rate of IFA are crazy high. But yeah, probably just way underbid. When they give updates, they're relative to other offers, not their demand. I also think most guys want to play for MLB organizations, but I'm not sure.
You just have to outbid everyone else. Basically, you think of a number that you'd be willing to spend on that guy and offer it. Honestly, it's a learning curve that takes a couple of seasons to be able to judge what you expect others to bid, and even then you'll guess wrong a bunch because there's one crazy person who offers some guy a ton when they suck. Also, Japan teams have less money than MLB teams so it's hard to get INT FAs. I'd suggest going after the Japanese INT FAs since they're worth more to Nippon teams than non-Japanese dudes.
