Those of you who are vets to the game, I would like to compile a list of things that we all know so that others are not at too much of a disadvantage. Obviously, keep your lineup tricks, or scouting secrets hush-hush. But tips about the game or interface itself, feel free to share. There are players in the game that can either be hitters or pitchers. Even if a pitcher has stamina of as low as a 2 or a 3, and has at least a 3 pitch arsenal, he can be a competent major league starter. Pitchers can develop additional pitches through development More to come
Work Ethic is a very underrated personality attribute. Most GMs think, the higher the Work Ethic the quicker a prospect reaches his max potential. Trying hard to work on the perfect trade? Check out the positional strength by teams report. It lists where their starting postional player ranks in comparison to the other 29 teams, and lists the highest ranked prospect at the same position, and where they rank as well.
The Strategy tab in game is an incredibly powerful tool. You can set offensive, defensive and pitching strategies for numerous situations. You can also set strategies for individual players which ignore the team strategy. The timing with which you call up your prospects that you want to keep long term is crucial. 172 days on the 25 man roster= 1 year of service time. Once a player has 6 years of service time he is elligible for free agency. In addition, if they are 3 years or close to it of service time, they begin the arbitration process sooner ("Super Two Status"). For the best of both worlds, don't start the clock on those prospects until Mid-June
Top prospects do require signing bonuses or even salaries when drafting. Make sure you have budget room! Player Popularity is extremely important. It drives fan interest in your ballclub. If they are interested, that means more attendance. Keep an eye on your attendance graphs. If you are selling out every game, raise your ticket prices. Especially post season games.

A positive drug test result not only results in a suspension, but the player's popularity will change to "disliked". Having him on your team hurts attendance. Each team's "park factors" are listed under your Team's options and ballpark. It's always best to build your team to fit your park. After all... You play 81 games or more there. The owner sets your budget each year, and each owner has different "traits". Some are penny pinchers, others are generous. Owners will die, or sell the team giving you a new owner with different traits. Owner's can also fire the GM... Not here though. It's disabled. Only the commisioner can fire a GM

So I havnt really messed around with the strategy of the team all that much, thats probably something I should set up right?
