With the 25th pick in the 2031 ML Amateur Draft, the New York Yankees select SP Jose Durango: I really wanted to go position player here, but the ones I had targeted went in the middle of the round. Thus, we selected 22 year old (and well developed) Jose Durango. If Durango lives up to his billing, he should fit in nicely (and well timed) with the organizations other young SP prospects and round out the rotation nicely.
The Mets select Cliff 'Frosty Bill' Lancaster We are happy where we are in our system with arms and probably would have loved a bat here, but some reaches early on let us take Cliff where we thought we got great value out of him. He is very well-rounded and evenly developed for a 20 year old. He has a nice repertoire that, with some polish, will allow him to become a very stable starter in the bigs.
Cubs take SP Artie Lukas. Lukas reminds us of former pitcher Tony Rivera, who was a beast in Wrigley. Lukas has a crazy high GB% and we also expect him to end up with 70/65 movement. If he can add a couple more MPH to his fastball, Lukas will be another outstanding pitcher for the Cubs.
The ANAHEIM Angels announce their 1st round (32 overall) selection and comp pick Davis has 3 potential plus pitches and good stuff, but his "impossible" signability had many teams pass. Anaheim will be hoping they can pony up enough cash, championships, and california raisins to convince him to sign. "Zamboni" has great size and potential, but injury concerns pushed him out of the 1st round. We'll be hoping the youngster can keep his arm in one piece, though that doesn't seem likely seeing as he's an Angel. Who knows, maybe the re-branding will turn the injury tides on those California beaches. sonn is up with the 1st pick in the 2nd round.
Detroit selects Cameron "Vlad The Impaler" Ward in the 2nd round. Although he was a SP in college, Ward will be placed into the Tigers system to be a top closer within 2-3 years. Based on potentials, he could be better than CL Ken "Obie" Smith who was one of the best closers in the AL who was also drafted by Detroit.
JFace907 You're up. Rangers select SP Juan Lopez with the 49th overall pick. How he fell this far, I'll never know, but I'll gladly take it.
