I think going to 3 conferences gives everyone more flexibility for scheduling, which means a greater chance of having different games against different users.

Im sorry I have been away from the boards a lot lately, I have been just buried at work.

Also, you have a greater chance of having more conference championship games against User v. User which is always fun.

Also, you really spread out the recruits and if the CPU is competitive it could be really fun.

I think this is probably the fairest setup right now. We will just have to look at things when the rosters come out and determine if we still are balanced. To our points earlier, North Carolina could be really good on the rosters and create some balancing issues again.

Yeah, NC was the only one that stuck out to me, they could be a top 10 team with a top 5 Defense, BBJ had a great '10, I really think guys that had great years should start a bit behind the 8 ball when 11 drops.

looks good to me too. I hope Mizzou's offensive style is like the Daniels Maclin era. The ball won't ever touch the ground.

Shaun and I are behind the 8-ball big time, Colorado and Duke baby! It will be fun though. I'm going to try out a new offense, air attack, when I first start with Colorado and see how I like it. I'll probably lose a bunch, but who knows, maybe it will be fun.

The more and more I look at Wake Forest and the more I hear about the game gets me worried that it will be two to three seasons before I am bowl eligible, lol.

It should be fun and it definitely will be a different experience.

You'll be in the ACC, you should be fine. You just have to remember to use the Wake Forest philosophy where everyone gets redshirted.

I'm pretty sure most everyone in The Deuce uses that philosophy. There are very few of us that use realistic redshirting. Which is a topic I told everyone I was going to bring up when we start talking about changes to our rules for this year's game.

Haha, you only have to go .500 to be bowl eligible.

Ha, that's what I'm worried about. The team is pretty run down and none of the preseason magazines have many good things to say about this year. Their recruiting efforts have been dismal or perhaps non-existent in the past three years.

    What is considered "realistic" redshirting?

Also do we have any candidates to take Flo's place?

whats wrong with redshirting everyone? I usually have a few freshman play, but if they are not playing anytime soon why not...

I'd guess it would depend on the program. UF for instance doesn't redshirt anyone during the preseason. Then if they don't play, they get their redshirt.

I've read where Wake Forest for example tells all their recruits that they'll likely redshirt. It's the only way they can compete since they don't land 5 star guys, they need to develop 3 star guys into 5th year senior studs.

In a perfect world, fatigue would matter and you'd need an actual 2 or 3 deep roster of players to make it through the games and season. Thus, redshirting that talented kid who'd likely see playing time in a rotation on the D-line may not be realistic.

LOL, Wake Forest vs. Colorado for the chance to play in a bowl game?

Virginia Tech in real life barely plays true freshmen. Maybe 3 or 4 tops.

Realistic redshirting is typically not redshirting anyone within your two deep. That includes OL, DL, LB and DBs. Real colleges will never redshirt someone who can help the team out, even if that means they are in a limited role.

Since we have 70 man rosters, it can't be a hard two deep rule or anything. But it's something that needs to be addressed. I expect the new recruiting system to help this out a lot, but I think it still needs to be discussed. The ratio between true Srs and (RS)Srs should be a bit more balanced.

I'm going to try to make fatigue and penalties matter this year. I have 9 seasons worth of data in an excel sheet. It's interesting what trends and statistics I am finding. :)

3 or 4 true freshmen a year is on the low end of what I would consider average NOT INCLUDING special teams. VTech only plays 3 or 4 freshmen you know about. I would expect a low number from a school like VTech with a well established system and coach. Oppositely, Texas A&M started 11 true freshmen and played 18 last year. Probably another dozen will play this year. Obviously that is two polar ends of the spectrum, but you sort of see what I'm getting at.

Right now, there might only be a handful of true frosh playing across all over the user teams. That has a lot to do that, as coaches, we can go out and get whatever recruit we want to fill our needs. Like I said, I don't think that will be as easy next year.

What trend? That we don't get called for penalties and our 400 lb lineman plays 50 downs per game?:)

That is exactly the problem, we have SO much depth it is unnecessary. In The Deuce, Terrell Pryor wouldn't have seen the field for 3 years, haha.
