Spotlight on Premier Dynasty Cream of the Crop and Commish G-Unit5281
In this Spotlight article, the focus is on PS3 Premier Dynasty Cream of the Crop and its commissioner G-Unit5281. Cream of the Crop is our first PS3 dynasty to get the spotlight treatment. The Cream of the Crop is an extremely quick advancing dynasty being among the fastest progressing dynasties on TSO. The Cream of the Crop is also the only dynasty in the enviable position to retain all of their core members going into the TSO premier draft and NCAA 12. I sat down with the commissioner G-Unit for a quick biography and Q&A session:
BIO:
Name: David Schad
Age: 27
Location: Atlanta, GA
Favorite sports teams: Dallas Cowboys, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Job(s): Construction–Estimating…plus my new one of handling TSO Apparel, Misc other TSO tasks for Mr. Rynoaid, and Social Media.
Hobbies: Gaming (NCAA, Madden, TW Golf). Side hobby: Keeping up with the Deuce..an Xbox league the Crop of the Crop bases their premises off of in many ways and several key members like Drifter, Shaun, Jkhaalis991, Mustang, GoGators, and Bond.
About Me: I’m a happily married man and father of two boys (soon to be 3 yr old & 1 yr. old). Unfortunately I’m a displaced Cowboy Season ticket holder stuck in Georgia, so one of my favorite things to do is at least a couple times a year make my way out to Texas to see my Cowboys play. I generally always bring my wife out and a good friend each time I come. Since the Paul Johnson era, which I followed closely at GA.Southern & the Naval Academy, I have become a GA.Tech Season Ticket holder as well with my favorite college Coach in my local area. So I attend all Tech games now which have been alot of fun these recent years.
How long have you been playing NCAA and playing online?
4 Years Only
Who is your favorite real life team/school? Do you always try to play as them in dynasty mode or try out other schools?
As stated above, Cowboys & Yellow Jackets. For Madden, yes I always play with my Cowboys. For NCAA I have played with Tech, but I like to mix it up as well.
How did the Cream of the Crop get to become a part of TSO?
The Crop came over from Operation Sports and was one of the “original” PS3 leagues when TSO expanded from their proprietary Xbox only platform.
How long have you been a commissioner of CoC and what challenges if any have you faced?
I have commished the Crop from midway of NCAA ’10 and all of NCAA ’11. The original Commish Hoodlum ran into some relocation issues for college and pretty much could not handle the responsibilities anymore. I stepped in after approval from Hack & Drift and never looked back. The only problems we had were that we had some slackers and just a real casual approach into the league as general. I decided that we would weed those members out and bring a more extreme approach into league play and activity.
You guys run an extremely fast pace. How often are advances and what season are you guys currently on?
We are pretty much a 24-Hour pace league now. We have not always been that way, but have developed a rare chemistry as a core group. We are currently in Week 4, of Season 16 (2025). If it had not been a PSN fallout, we would easily be wrapping up Season 17 to this date.
With the premier member draft around the corner, you are the only Commissioner who has a full league, why is that?
Well our core has never changed and then the couple new guys I have I feel great about so I feel no need to draft or make a change.
What makes the Cream of the Crop stand out amongst other online dynasties?
I would say definitely our pace and core group. Our pace like mentioned previously is a steady 24 hour format, USER games in our league are scheduled and posted within “hours” of a recent advance. 7 of my 12 members on our league roster have completed 15 consecutive seasons, and 5 out of those same 7 members have completed 20 or more seasons. I know all of my members on a first name basis and 90% of them I know personally and talk to all the time on the phone or in Skype conversations.
I consider myself a personable guy and several of my “key” members are along those same lines so as a league we strive to be more than a bunch of dudes playing a video game and communicating thru a message board. We try to be a personable league with friendships and other fun/life discussions. Pick up the damn phone and call me, don’t send me a damn private message…that’s kind of the way I feel about communication and the reason why our league has been so successful for so long.
What is your most memorable moment or game from this years dynasty?
Definitely coming back and beating JCA, who was a very good Miami Hurricane team on the last play of the game with my Ok.State Cowboys team early in our ’11 seasons. The “great” Casey Hill (CoC H.O.F. Wide Receiver) tearing apart his secondary.
What is the plan for the dynasty for NCAA 12? Any idea on format and/or teams at this point?
Nope, unlike many other TSO Leagues; Crop policy is no ’12 talk until we formally shut our doors on the NCAA ’11 game.
With the user base and site favoring the Xbox numbers wise, why the PS3 for you?
Good question, to be honest with you….I have always just owned a Sony Playstation from the beginning and have had no reason to ever change. I have considered getting an Xbox 360 in the past and attempted to join my favorite Xbox league: The Deuce at one point though. But my wife might castrate me….so that’s a no go for now…lol.
G-Unit requested a closing statement to give us a synopsis of his valued dynasty members:
I feel I have the best members on-site and wanted to talk about each one for a moment.
JFunk34: Best friend in real life, played football with him. Active military man who has served several tours in Iraq. We grew up playing NCAA and knew him as an avid gamer like my-self, so bringing him in to help me lead the Crop was an easy decision.
JCA312: Between myself and Jeff, we are the only two “Original” Croppers from day 1 (before I was even Commish). That’s 24 consecutive seasons vested together in league play. Without Jeff in the Crop, this league would not be 1/2 of what it has become.
Runthepound: Ashley is my right hand man and has become a close friend (even though he’s a Dawg fan). Ashley arguably does more than any other member in this league when it comes to helping me organize things for our league and plenty of other endless tasks I put on his plate. And I think most would agree (amongst PS3) he has the best stick/gaming skills on-site. Dude has won 7 National Championships in ’11 in the SEC Conference. On top of that has won the SEC 7 of the past 8 seasons and that’s against the likes of Funk powerhouse Crimson Tide squad.
Tuco418: Dave reminds me of Coolhandluke….steady as hell, makes every off-season, easy to schedule games, knows both NFL and College Football thru-n-thru. He is the 3rd longest term member in the Crop.
GSUtiger: Another active military man that helps our league in my different ways. Probably the best sport (yes, some of us get bent after a loss) and never takes a loss personal, nor takes issue with anyone. All around gamer and person.
Mizzourah: Nick stormed onto the scene with us in ’11 and has never looked back putting in 15 seasons with the Crop. Dude is practically a “real life” genius with his education and line of work, but never has wavered and easy to play games with. A guy I have met personally and had the pleasure of tailgating with and having several beers with.
Paytonno1son: Definitely our most passionate and emotional member. You’d think someone just murdered his dog and called his mother a whore after a loss, but an hour later is cracking wise-ass jokes and is well over it. A guy I personally recruited to the Crop and gel’d with our group instantly with his humorous personality.
Mr.2Bits: One of the few guys I easily call a “core” member with only 5 seasons vested with the Crop. But this guy is as active as it gets (weekly blog is top notch) and someone I knew would be a perfect fit with our pace and another member with an excellent personality.
Jam: Nick is a total douche bag who is about to leave off for college…so god only knows if he will be around to last. Plus his GF has a thing for me I think…lol. Nah, just joking….Nick has done a good job coming into the Crop and proving himself to be a lasting member. Hopefully he keeps up the good work.
BRUCE80: Rusty was a late add to the ’11 series and quite a pleasant one so far. Even though he is a little chippy at times…lol, I like it cause that means he’s competitive and takes it serious. You can tell when talking to him on a personal level he loves his football from a watching perspective, his boys playing, and the gaming side as well.
SoxandGators: Josh is a newbie with only 1 season with us. He has alot to learn about the Crop way, but so far is doing an excellent job in everything he has been asked.
It would not be fair if I did not mention HackGolfer and Emmdotfrisk as well. These two guys have been vital outside contributors in making the Crop successful in many behind the scene ways.
These other members I also consider good friends I keep contact with and bounce ideas off with:
Shaun Mason
Controllerabuser
Cimmy
Eyeke
T2Express
Sabo
Egofailure
Dru50
Many thanks to G-Unit for taking the time to let us get a closer look at the Cream of the Crop Dynasty. Stay tuned for the next edition of the TSO Spotlight series.
