1st Release Player of the Year nominees

As you could expect this list is top heavy with QB's and RB's...matter of fact those are the only players so far that really warrant consideration.

These are in no particular order:

    Texas QB Garrett Gilbert

Garrett is having a Heisman caliber year for the #2 and 7-0 Texas Longhorns. Garrett is 74-131 on the year with 1429 yards, 12 tds and only 4 ints.

    Houston QB Case Keenum

Case's numbers on the season have been remarkable. Case is a blistering 80-120 for 1450 yards and has an incredible 18 tds and only 3 ints. Houston has played the square root of no one however. We'll see if that continues.

    Fresno St. RB Robbie Rouse

Robbie is the offense for the 5-1 #9 Bulldogs. He is 3rd in the NCAA in rushing with 854 yards, but has only 5 td's. He is averaging 6.1 yards per carry.

    UNLV RB Channing Trotter

There was no doubt that Channing would carry the rock and the Rebel offense this season. Channing is having an outstanding year out in the desert with 86 carries for 664yds but only 4tds. He is averaging a whopping 7.7 ypc which is second in the nation.

    Clemson RB Jamie Harper

Jamie is also having a terrific season. You have to, to stand out in a crowd like we have this season at RB. Jamie has 130 carries for 901 yards and 9 tds. His yardage leads the nation as of today.

    Florida State RB Jermaine Thomas

Jermaine can be found in every POTW thread for the season. He has had some outstanding games. Jermaine has carried 142 times for 827 yards and 16 td's. His TD's are second in the nation, however his ypc of 5.8 yards is lower than any other RB on this list.

    Penn State RB Evan Royster

Evan might be a front runner for the heisman trophy at this point with 121 carries for 859 yards and 17 td's. His TD total tops the nation and he's averaging just over 7 ypc.

    Texas RB Foswhitt Whittaker

Foz has is the 2nd Longhorn on this list, but may be the most important. He has 104 carries for 838 yards and 11 tds. That kind of production can really make life easier for your QB and probably is one of the reasons there are two Longhorns on this list.

    Ohio State DB Chimdi Chekwa

Chimdi has been the leader of the Ohio State Defense with 7 ints in only half the season, and has broken up many more passes. He has been a true shut down corner this season.

Good stuff BDS, but you are going to have to add another 287yds and 3 TD to Royster's total after this weeks game against Fresno St in case you forgot.....;)

I hope Pryor/Posey continue having mediocre seasons and Ohio State keeps winning. I do think that Chimidi Chekwa should get some consideration, as he has grabbed 7 interceptions and scored 2 TD so far this season. He also has like 15 pass deflections according to in game stats but I can assure you the real number is much higher. He only has 9 tackles on the season but he has probably allowed less than 9 receptions on the year. Nick Toon was the only player all year to score a TD on Chekwa.

GREAT Work BDS, Fozzy has really been a surprise this season. Tre' Newton came out of spring practice has the #1 guy, but Fozzy's running has put Tre' on the bench. A great running came can really take the pressure off a soph QB.

Keenum will prove whether he belongs in this disussion in the coming weeks, my schedule has been really easy, all CPU games and only one vs a ranked opponent. I have all 3 MWC user teams still to play, plus TCU, Utah and OU.

Jamie is no longer in the picture due to injury..... Maybe be back for a bowl game. After that he's probably headed to the pros
