    2009 Week 1:

Vols picked off 8 times, throw game away against North Carolina.

Knoxville, TN—This was a season opener the Vols fans would rather forget. QB’s Jonathan Crompton and Nick Stephens managed to throw 8 interceptions, 5 of which the Tarheel defense returned for touchdowns. The Heels did throw 4 picks of there own, one being returned for 6. Tennessee really struggled moving the ball against the North Carolina defense, managing a meager 19 yards rushing and only 202 overall. The team hopes to rebound next week when Iowa State comes to town.

Tennessee goes to the ground, outlasts Iowa State

Knoxville, TNâ€â€ÂAfter chucking the ball all over the field last week against UNC, the Tennessee Volunteers really wanted to try and establish a ground game against the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday. Even after falling behind 14-0 early, the coaching staff stuck to the ground game, and it paid off. The Vols were able to hold Iowa State to 3 FG’s in the 2nd half and manage to escape with a 31-30 victory. Jonathan Crompton looked like a different QB out there, throwing only one pick versus 5 last week. Tennessee will enjoy this victory but realize a trip to Gainesville in Week 3 looms large.

Just got dominated by Tebow and the Gators. Once again Crompton threw the ball to wrong team, throwing 5 picks in the loss. Congrats to EaglesIrish on the beatdown he gave us at the Swamp!

    Week 4

    UL Lafayette - 20
    Tennessee - 41

Was never really in danger of losing this one although the UL QB absolutely shredded my pass defense, hitting 33 of 43 for 400 yards and 3 scores. Crompton, the INT machine, managed to throw his 1st TD of the season (he also added another 2 picks to his stats). The ground game was solild, running for over 150 yards as Hardesty and Brown shared the bulk of the carries. A good win for the Vols as they rebound from the beat-down in the Swamp the week before.

Im slowly discovering that im not very good at this game at the moment. Was down 20-0 before I finally got some offense going. Bryce Brown had a nice game, filling in for the injured Montario Hardesty, rusing for over 100 yards and one touchdown. My downfall, as in everyother OD im in, is turnovers. I like to throw the ball to the other team, alot!

Ugly, grind it out kind of game for the Vols. I was clinging to 9-7 lead with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter when I decided to try and pass the ball. Big mistake. The Bulldogs picked it off and set up the go ahead TD. But to my surprise, we mounted a comeback of our own and scored with just under a minute remaining to go up 3. The D did the job from there.

    Week 9

    South Carolina - 17
    Tennessee - 38

Both Hardesty and Brown go over 100 yards rushing against the South Carolina defense. Crompton played well and didnt throw a pick! Still has 17 for the season but is slowly improving. We did fumble 3 times though, but the defense held South Carolina in check for most of the game. The Vols get back to .500 at 4-4. Only CPU games are left so hopefully we can make a strong push towards a bowl game in these reamaining 4 games!

The Vols go into Oxford and defeat the #15 Rebels 31-21. Tennessee used a balance attack on offense, running for 200 yards and throwing for another 190. The defense gave up some yards on the ground but came up big when it counted, including a 88 yard INT return by my DT of all people. Next week, the Vols take on rival Vandy.

Good, tough rivalry game for the Vols. A little closer than I would have liked against Vandy but we'll take the win. With the game tied late in the 4th, Vandy threw a pick in the endzone going in for the lead. Tennessee then took the ball on an 80 yard drive and scored the winning TD with just under a minute left in the game. The D held and we escaped with a victory. Next week, Tennessee goes to Kentucky to finish out the regular season.

Bryce Brown had a huge day, going for over 200 yards with 4 TD's. Gave up a crap load of yards to the Wildcats but managed to pull away from them in the 2nd half. Now we wait to see what bowl game the Vols will be invited to play in.
