2010-2011 Daytona Beach University Game Summaries

    Week 1 vs. FAU (W 27 - 7)

Hopefully what was seen from Daytona Beach in the first half, is a sign of things to come. Ryan ran for 97 yards and Walton picked up where Manson left off last year. The Marauder D only gave up 82 yards and held FAU scoreless. They also reached the QB a lot and even broke the ribs of their starter.

The shutout was lost with 24 secs to go. The backup freshman tailback fumbled after the starters were pulled, giving the Owls a short field. When all was said and done, the Marauders had 8 sacks and knocked 2 QB's out of the game. They were ready to punish.

    Offensive P.O.W. - HB Luke Ryan - 37 att., 197 yds,1 TD
Defensive P.O.W. - Fr. DE Joshua Colvin 8 tackles, 4 TFL, 3 sacks, 1 DEFL

    Week 2 vs. FSU

    Week 2 Vs. FSU (L 48-34)

Daytona Started the game with a very short field following a kick return to about the 30. Although they would have preffered a TD, they settled for a FG. At the end of 1, the Marauders actually led 13-10 following a long streak to Omar Gunn as timed expired. After 5 rushes, Jermaine Thomas has 111 yd and a TD for FSU, despite Daytona putting 8 in the box.

Halftime score of 20-13 with Daytona trailing. Could be tied as Daytona went for it on 4th down from the 2 yd line and failed.

In the second half, Daytona ran less and passed more, which led to more scores, but they could not stop the Seminoles.

Coach ShortBusStud said after the game, "I'm proud of my guys, but it's still hard to see a game that could've easily went our way slip from our grasp. It's like catching a 30 ft great white and then having it fall off your line before you take the picture for proof. If we can stick with FSU, everybody else better look out."

Offensive P.O.W.- QB John Walton- 20/32 305 yd, 2 TD
Defensive P.O.W.- DE Joshua Colvin- 14 tackles, 5TFL, 3 sacks

    Week 3 vs. Troy (W 56-10)

Troy was able to gain plenty of yards in the first quarter, but only mustered 3 points compared to Daytona's 21. Daytona drove steadily 2 times down the field for TD's. Their third TD was a defensive one when Hogan returned a pitch that went to him rather than the tailback for a TD.

30 seconds into the 2nd quarter, Luke Ryan scored his third TD of the game on a 76 yd run. He went on to have a record breaking day. Uh oh. 28-3 at haltime. It appears this rivarly is going to get one-sided in a hurry.

    Offensive P.O.W.- HB Luke Ryan- 27 att. 305 yd(team record), 5 TD(team record)
Defensive P.O.W.- Fr. CB Marvin Green- 3 tackles, 1 Int, 2 FumRec

    Week 4 vs. FIU (W 50-49)

    Week 4 vs. FIU (W 50-49)

1st Half- On offense, Daytona was not albe to pass. Walton was way off the mark on every pass. The Marauders defense were relegated to running the ball, but by that time they were down 28-14. Ryan had 14 carries for 101 yd and a TD. Scriven was 3 for 17 yd and WR Sanders was 1 for 21 yd.

On defense, Daytona was back to their old ways. They cannot tackle and QB Younger was just out of reach every time. Darian Mallory was running through the line like a pinball, bouncing off of nearly everybody.

2nd Half- Just when it looked like the Marauders were going to chip away at the Panther lead, Hiton returned a kickoff 96 yd for a TD. Both teams scored 14 points in the 3rd quarter. Daytona passed only a handful of times more, instead choosing to run the ball down the throats of FIU because they couldn't stop the run either. Daytona outscored FIU 22-7 in the 4th quarter and with 28 seconds left, chose to go for two and were reward with a hard-fought win.

    Offensive P.O.W.- Fr HB Anthony Scriven - 11 att. 110 yd, 4 TD's

    Other interesting notes:

-Mallory ended the day with 231 yd and 2 TD's but had 10 broken tackles.
-Luke Ryan had 26 carries for 225 yd and 2 TD

    Week 5 vs. Rice (W 51-41)

    Week 5 vs. Rice (W 51-41)

This game really came down to Daytona's decision to defer the kickoff at the beginning of the game. Daytona scored just before the half and right after the half was over. This gave them the edge and a lead of 14 points. It turned out that Daytona's defense was just good enough to hold Rice's offense when it counted and gave their offense a cushion so they could run. Daytona's defense worked particularly hard in the second quarter, giving up 1 TD run compared to 2 FG's and 2 TD's from their own offense.

The Marauder offense is best when Walton helps mix the pass in with the run, extends drives, and doesn't make mistakes. He had 181 yards and 1 TD. The focus was once again on the run. The Marauders rushed 49 times with Ryan being the workhorse he is and has to be in order for his team to win.

    Offensive P.O.W.- HB Luke Ryan- 39 rushes, 320 yd(team record), 4 TD
    Defensive P.O.W.- DE Joshua Colvin- 9 tackles, 6 TFL, 4 sacks(record), 1 FFUM
