2009- Last season wasn't a good one considering the Owls won 10 games in 2008 to 10 losses in 2009. They won their first game on 11/14 28-20 over Tulane. The offense started to come together behind the arm of Alabama's transfer QB Nick Fanuzzi. The defense had its share of problems though allowing 60-70 point blowouts to Houston, Navy, Texas Tech and UCF. They were also last in the nation allowing an avg of 43 points a game.

What to watch for- Nick Fanuzzi- will he be able to progress from last seasons disaster? He threw for 7 TDs against SMU and Tulane showing the ability. The Owls have most of their players returning and should improve from their 2-10 record. True Freshamn RB Charles Ross showed potential running for 343 yards and 7 TDs in their last 5 games of the year.

The defense is a major leak that needs to be fixed immediatly if they will have any chance of winning this year. Considering they cannot attract playmakers on defense 2010 is looking to be another tough year for the defense because it lacks talent and depth.

    UCF Knights

2009- Last season was a successful one for the Knights winning 8 games last year and getting a bowl game invitation. Offensively the Knights showed that they can be a threat to win some games. The Wake Forest Transfer QB Brett Hodges really got the pass game going got UCF but couldn't wrap up the season losing to Rutgers 45-24 in the St. Petersburg Bowl.

What to watch for- Will QB Rob Calabrese step up into the leading role that Hodge left? He didn't play much last year so it'll be interesting to see how he will handle the pressure.

The defense lost a lot of players especially the D-line and LBs. It's a good thing they still have speed and power in a few key players like DE Bruce Miller and Lawrence Young at LB.

    ECU Pirates

2009- Under coach Skip Holtz the Pirates had another successful year winning another Conference USA championship. They didn't have any victories this year against powerhouse schools like they did in 2008 defeating Virginia Tech and West Virginia. This year they lost to North Carolina, West Va, and Va Tech. SR RB Dominique Lindsay had a surprising injury comeback year racking up over 1,000 yards on the ground and 6 TDs.

What to watch for- The Pirates lost a lot of players and it'll be interesting to see how ECU will handle this considering Skip Holtz will now be coaching at USF. WR Dwayne Harris is an exciting player to watch for because he is a versatile player who can catch but also run the ball effectively out of the Wildcat formation. CB Emanuel Davis has the ability to shut down a receiver. Losing both Safety's will ECU pass defense improve from being ranked 107th in the nation last year?

    UTEP Miners

2009- For the past 4 years UTEP has had losing seasons and no bowl invitations. In 2009 UTEP went 4-8, getting those 4 wins mainly on the legs of JR RB Donald Buckram who accumalated nearly 1,600 yards and 21 TDs. The defense and special teams proved to be fatal for the Miners this season.

What to watch for- Buckram, Buckram and more Buckram... This guy is a beast who was a major contributor for the Miners victory over 3-0 undefeated Houston Cougers. He rushed over 260 yards and 4 TDs on 32 carries. Trevor Vittatoe had a disappointing year last year throwing more INTs than TDs compared to his previous 2 seasons throwing for 56 TDs and just 16 INTs. Everyone thought the only thing missing was a run game. Now that they had a run game Vittatoe choked hard. Will he be able to pull it together his SR year?

The defense just needs to stop the opponent from scoring every now and then in order for the Miners to win some games. Considering they lost alot of DBs the defense doesn't look to be much improved from last year.
