    Week 8 @ Cal

    W 24-21
    -----------------------------

BERKLEY, CA (AP) - This game seemed destined for a high scoring affair; 38 points were scored in the first half alone! Both offenses came into this game confident, and it showed in the first half. Cal running back Shane Vereen was the first to find the endzone on a 4 yard rush. Arizona State Junior quarterback Steven Threet answered the call though, leading his Sun Devils down on a drive, culminating with a 17 yard toss to Senior Aaron Pifugrad. After a couple punt exchanges, Cal struck 'gold' again, this time with a big time play from their star receiver Junior Marvin Jones. Cal quarterback Beau Sweeney found Jones on a 85 yard bomb. Arizona State followed suit with a 20 yard field goal from Thomas Weber, and a touchdown from Threet to Kerry Taylor from 4 yards out. Cal was able to find the endzone one more time before the end of the half on an 11 yard Vereen reception, putting them ahead 21-17 at the break.

Both defenses came alive after the half though, with the Sun Devils shutting out Sweeney and the Cal offense. State also came away with 2 turnovers to help the cause in the second half. The Devils got the go ahead score on a 5 yard run by Threet, which proved to be the decider. The victory was sealed after Vereen fumbled a Arizona State punt with a minute and half left; which also came after Cal just forced a punt, and used all of their timeouts. Threet and company proceeded to run the clock out on quarterback kneels, and admirably fromt he 10 yard line after the fumble. Cal's head coach called it a "very classy move" of the Sun Devils not punching one more in.

ASU quarterback Steven Threet was the game, going 19-34 for 250 yards, 2 TD's, and 0 INT's. Threet also tossed in 50 rushing yards on 9 carries. The play of the game also included Threet, which was his 14 yard toss to Pifugard (see highlights). Sophomore linebacker Vontaze Burfict put in another solid game, racking up 8 tackles including 3 TFL's.

The Sun Devils next contest will be on the road in Pullman, Washington to take on the Washington State Cougars.

    Week 10 @ USC

    W 24-7

LOS ANGELES, CA (AP) - Everyone knew it would take a near perfect game for Arizona State to beat #6 USC at The Colisseum, and near perfect is what they delivered. Junior Steven Threet again played a very good game, going 16-26 for 240 yards, 3 TD's, and just one interception. All three of Threet's touchdowns were made possible by spectacular plays by each respective receiver. The first, to Senior Aaron Pifugrad, required Pifugrad to make a great catch over his shoulder on the sideline of the endzone while getting a foot or two in. The second, which was to Junior Gerrell Robinson, was on a bomb thrown by Threet. Robinson turned all they way around in the very back of hte endzone to catch the ball on his chest, while simultaneously getting tackled by the USC defender. The final, and possibly the most outrageous, saw tight end Trevor Kohl leap OVER a USC defensive back to fall into the endzone.

Another fine game by Threet lead to another Sun Devil win, and these boys are starting to get hot late in the season. Whatever team catches them in a bowl game better watch out.

    Week 11 vs Stanford

    W 38 - 17

TEMPE, AZ (AP) - It took a whole half for Arizona State's offense to come alive, but boy did it ever. The first half saw State muster 10 points, then hang 28 in the second. Led by quarterback Steven Threet again, the Sun Devils topped Stanford.

Stanford ripped the hearts out of ASU many thought on a fumbled punt by State that was returned by the Cardinals. Coach Kasperson said it actually lit a fire in his players, they didn't want to lose like that.

"Seeing Stanford take the lead on a play like that made a lot of the guys sick, they came out in the second half and really put their poop in a group."

A few costly interceptions thrown by Stanford qb Andrew Luck also helped the Sun Devil cause.
