Florida State opens with a win over FAU. While the score shows a dominating 28-0 win, the FSU faithful are less than impressed. We got lucky to open the season against a weaker team. We left a lot of plays on the field. Senior QB Christian Ponder struggled completing only 11-27 passes. The WR's didnt help much, dropping 7 passes according to the stat sheet. A couple of those should have been long TD's. The running game was efficient but not spectacular, averaging 3.72 yards per rush.

The Defense on the other hand dominated an overmatched FAU offense. We allowed 35 yards rushing and receiving.

We have a bye week to get ready for a big early season match up with the Michigan Wolverines.

FSU traveled to The Big House to take on Big Suge and his Michigan Wolverines. The Seminoles started fast. Sophomore DE Tosmon Stevens sacked Denard Robinson for a safety and the first points of the came. FSU got the ball back on the saftey kick and QB Christian Ponder went to work. Florida State moved down the field and finished the drive with a 21 yard Jermaine Thomas TD run. It was his first of 3 TD's on the day. The first half was FSU getting after the Michigan QB and the Wolverine WRs dropping passes. Thomas added two more TD in the first half to put the score at 23-0 at the half.

Michigan replaced Denard Robinson with Tate Forcier in the 2nd quarter. Forcier got in a bit of a grove later in the 3rd quarter and would try to rally the troups. He would get the score to 23-14, but time eventually ran out.

    Great Game Big Suge.

This game was too close for comfort. FSU had 9 recruits in attendance in hopes of showing them an early season blowout. It appeared that would be the case when we went up 17-2 in the 2nd quarter. A couple big plays allowed this to happen. WR Bert Reed caught a 48 yard TD bomb and less than a minute later FS Nick Moody stepped infront of an option pitch and returned it 28 yards for a TD. Route on, or so it seemed at the time.

The Seminole offense got into another rut. The seemed to move the ball, but either an INT or stalled drive kept them from getting anymore points. No problem the defense had not allowed any points through 3 quarters. But the Deamon Decons wouldnt go away. They scored 2 late TD's to make FSU nervous. Luckily we were able to recover the onside attempt and run out the clock.

This didnt do our recruiting any favors.

Boston College came in intent on giving the Seminoles their first loss of the season. They started out strong and only allowed Florida State 4 offensive plays in the first quarter. The only problem is BC didnt score any points either. They had two long drives. The first got inside the FSU 10 yard line before HB Sterlin Pfifer would fumble the ball away. The 2nd drive stalled and the BC kicker would miss his first FG of the day, Freese would end up missing all 3 of his FG attempts.

The 2nd quarter didnt get started any better for FSU. 2nd play of the quarter is an option play. Ponder decides to pitch the ball, but the ball is tipped. BC returns the fumble 28 yards for the TD. That would be the scoring until right before half. FSU finally got something going when Ponder hit WR Kenny Shaw on a 39 yard bomb. This set us up on the 6 yard line. Very next play HB Jermaine Thomas takes it right up the middle for a physical TD run. 7-7 at the half.

The 2nd half saw Boston Colleges offense really get rolling. WR Billy Flutie was no joke. He finished with 11 receptions for 141 yards and a TD. Im sure it would have been more but he got hurt early in the 4th quarter.

Fast forward to about 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter. BC is up 21-13. Ponder knows he needs to get points on the board. He quickly hit Fast Willie Haulstead on a 5 yard drag, Wille proceeds to out run everyone for a 57 yard TD. FSU goes for two. Ponder didnt see anyone open and takes it in himself to tie the game.

With less than a minute to go it appears as if Florida State has the game in hand. They are in the read zone just running out the clock waiting on the game winning FG. With 12 seconds left Lonnie Pryor takes the ball up the middle for a 6 yard gain to the 12 yard line. He is tackled with 6 seconds left, at 3 second Coach Ceewo and Christian Ponder start screaming for a time out, several times. But the refs act like they do not see us and let the clock run out. FSU will be reporting the refs to the ACC in hopes that disaplinary actions will be taken.

    Overtime.
FSU get the ball first and only gains 3 yards on 3 plays. We settle for Dustin Hopkins 3rd FG of the day. Lucky for FSU fans BC didnt fair much better. On 3rd down DE Toshmon Stephens records his 3rd sack of the day, forcing a long BC FG attempt. Freese would miss his 3rd and final FG of the day.

FSU survives and welcomes the bye week after a couple of close games.

The kick went wide left. Still no idea why it would not let me call time out at the end of regulation. I was jamming the time out button. I thought for sure that was going to cost me the game.

Florida State improves their record to 7-0 on the heels of another close game. We can again thank the opposing teams kicker as they missed a FG and a late PAT that could have tied the game. Ponder struggled throwing a pair of INT's. It was the defense keeping us in the game as usual. We harrased the NC State QB, sacking him 4 times. A key play was late in the game, Sophomore Toshmon Stephens got a sack and forced a fumble, LB Nigel Carr recovered to help preserve the Seminole win.

Florida State faced off against rival Clemson in a big ACC matchup. Both teams were 5-1 in conferance play and the winner would be in control for the ACC Atlantic with a likely shot at Virginia Tech for the ACC Championship.

Both teams felt each other out in the first half, with the score at 3 all. Ponder, who was 3-12 with an int in the first half, went 12-20 and 2 TD in the second half. Bert Reed made a nice juggling catch in the endzone in the 3rd quarter. It was a close call, the refs reviewed the call, but the TD stood.

FSU was up 10 heading into the 4th. Clemson quickly score a pair of TD's and it appear that FSU had lost all momentum. With about 1:45 to play, Florida State was down 4 and had the ball on our own 20 yard line. Ponder hit Fast Willie Ponder on the sideline for a 80 yard go-ahead TD. Quickly thereafter Dionte Allen would pick off Clemson QB Kyle Parker and set up a FSU FG to put us up 6.

Clemson made a final push with about a minute to play and no timeouts. The last play of the game was a completion to the FSU 3 yard line, but time expired.

Whew another close game, but a win is a win. Still struggling with completion percentage and running game. I see a playbook change for FSU next year.

    Key Stats

Willie Haulstead 125 receiving yards 1 TD

Florida State wraps up ACC conferance play with perhaps their most complete game of the season. Christian Ponder was finally able to get in a groove as he completed 61% of his passes for 255 yards and 3 TD. The running game combined for over 100 yards. Starter Jermaine Thomas went down early and missed the last 3 quarters of the game. Chris Thompson stepped in and rushed for 70 yards. Kicker Dustin Hopkins went 2-2 on FG's including a 50 yards. The defense was tough again, pitching their second shutout of the season.

We have two tough games to go with home games against #24 rival Florida and a fiesy #17 Auburn led by DJ.

Florida State brings home the Governor's Cup after a 29-22 victory over rival Florida. Jermaine Thomas had a long 96 yard TD run to start the game. Willie Haulstead had an 82 yard TD reception to put the Seminoles ahead for good in the 3rd quarter. Florida QB Jeff Brantley twice led the Gators to 4th quarter red zone trips, but both times Sophomore CB Greg Reid picked him off. Both INT's help to clinch the win.

Next week the Seminoles host DJ and his Auburn Pussy Cats.
