2010 Hurricane Warning
All Miami Hurricane game recaps can be found here.
Hurricanes send Chips back to Michigan crying.
Van Dyke celebrates his first INT-TD of the season.
The U 31
Miami had complete control of this game as Central continously ran the no huddle spread which lead to 2 INT's, one for a TD. The Chippewas were decent through the air but were absolutely HORRID on the ground with Miami stuffing most of their rushes for losses but the Hurricanes also had a terrible day running the ball. Harris seemed a bit shaky on the pass but still managed to find the endzone 3 times. He threw the ball twice to Collier who took it to the house both times. This game was won by the defense as they kept the CMU passing attack in check and causing 3 turnovers.
Miami starts off 1-0 and travels back to Masler's old stomping ground in Week 2 to face the Buckeyes.
Miami can't do it
Ohio State 24
The Hurricanes traveled to Columbus to take on #2 ranked Ohio State this week. In a game that would be one for the ages Ohio State nearly lost their Top 3 ranking. Miami's defense would hold strong against the dangerous passing attack the Bucks have but did little to stop the run. In fact both teams had quite a bit more yards on the ground than in the air. Neither team would have a passing TD all game. Harris and Pryor were harassed all day, Harris throwing 2 INT while Pryor threw 3. The biggest turnover of the game came when Miami's kick returner muffed a punt, allowing Ohio State to recover the ball on the 2 yd line. The 4th quarter would be all Ohio State as they prevented Miami's offense from getting into scoring range. They would then kick the winning FG with 5 seconds remaining. The long Hail Mary prayer would not be answered for the Hurricanes and Ohio State was able to wipe it's brow in a sigh of relief.
Coach Masler had this to say: "I was a bit disappointed we couldn't capitalize in the 4th quarter. If we had scored or made a defensive stop the outcome of this game would have been different. Unfortunately I we weren't able to beat the better team, there is always next week. That game will also be big for us and personal for me.."
Miami is 1-1 and faces another Big Ten opponent Penn State next week. And we all know Masler's history with them..
Players of the Game
Graig Cooper: 14 Att, 55 yds, 2 TD
Dan Herron: 5 Att, 86yds, 2 TD
Miami loses Conference opener
Clemson absolutely manhandled the Canes today in route to a 20 point victory. J. Harris played with his head up his ass today as he only completed 25/52 and threw 2 INT's and fumbled once. Each time a receiver seemed open the O line would break down and allow Harris to get HUGE pressure or a linebacker would jump up and knock it away. Not to mention the receivers could not catch a cold. The defense also had big problems bringing down ball carries. Overall just a very sloppy job. Cooper had a big day on the ground with over 100 yards but could not get the ball in the endzone when it was needed. The redzone was a disaster for the Canes as 4 TD's were dropped and Cooper was stuffed twice on 4th down attempts. The only highlights of the day were a 2pt conversion and recovering the onsider kick. A very sloppy day as Death Valley takes its toll on Miami.
The Canes slip to 1-3(0-1). Miami hosts in-state rival and ACC foe Florida State next week.
Miami slams Duke
The Canes finally snapped their 4 game losing streak against Duke as the defense would dominate on the day. Reid would have 2 INT's, 1 for a TD. Freshman (RS) MLB Shayon Green would lead the defense again with 8 tackles (6 solo, 2 shared), 2 TFL, and 1 INT (3 on the year). The defense would force 4 turnovers total, as well as 3 FF (1 was recovered). On the offensive side Jacory Harris was once again highly inaccurate but was able to throw for 228 yds and a pair of TD's. The big player on offense today was HB Graig Cooper with 31 Att, 151 yds and a TD, he was able to get nearly 5yds per carry and baffle the Blue Devil defense.
The Hurricanse are now 2-4(1-2) and while host a tough North Carolina team Week 8. Ironically last time Miami won the final score was 31-10.
Other stats and highlights on The Wire.
Close Call for Canes
This game was closer than expected but the outcome was still nothing to frown about. Virginia would score twice on offense, one was a complete bullshit spot from the refs, it can be seen in my highlights. The challenge would not even reverse it. They also scored on a fumble-TD. Harris was responsible for the fumble as he was unable to take a hit today but he still earned POTG honors as he threw 3 TD's and NO INTERCEPTIONS...about damn time. TE Gordon would also receive his first TD of the season. And finally HB Cooper would run 23 times for 184 yards averaging 8 yards a carry. The defense would force 2 turnovers on the day including a clutch INT that saved the game from going into OT.
Miami is 3-5 (2-3) and host the Terps next week, looking to earn a bowl this season as they can only afford one more loss. Two tough games are on the schedule vs GA Tech and VA Tech.
J. Harris 14/30, 239 yds, 3 TD
G. Cooper 23 Att, 184 yds, 8.0 yds per carry
L. Byrd 3 Rec, 116 yds, 1 TD
T. Benjamin 2 Rec, 67 yds, 1 TD
R. Gordon 2 Rec, 20 yds, 1 TD
A. Bailey 4 Tackles, 2 Sack
Defense would record: 1 FF, 1 FR, 1 INT, 4 Sacks
Terps washed out of Miami
After a very close first half the Hurricanes take the Terps to the woodshed and make their 2nd win in a row. This win is very important towards the Canes getting a bowl game this season. The rainy conditions made it a bad game for the Terps as they slid around all game. The defense was very dominant today as two players stood out. Once again FOTY candidate MLB S. Green lead the defense with 9 tackles (ALL solo), 2 TFL, and his first sack of the season. DE A. Bailey won POTG this week as he recorded 5 tackles (5 solo), 4 TFL, and 3 sacks. Terps QB O'Brien was under intense pressure today that lead to his 6 sack game. Miami's own QB Harris was again inaccurate but did not throw any INT's and scored twice. Cooper had another monstrous day with over 100 yards rushing and a couple of scores.
Miami increases their record to 4-5 (3-3) and travel to face hostile Georgia Tech Week 11. Can Green and Bailey hold off that fierce Triple Option or will the Canes give up their only allowable loss??
Highlights on Wire include:
1) Green earning of his TFL
2) Coopers big TD run
3) Harris throws a 77 yd TD pass to Benjamin on a HB screen, HAHA
4) Green crushing the QB to force the incompletion
5) Green getting his first sack of the season.
I added some Green plays to help his FOTY hopes.
Miami Earns Bowl Eligibility!!
Miami's 21 point 4th quarter lifted them to 6-6, earning them a bowl. USF managed to go up 14-20 early in the 4th quarter but 3 turnovers cost them the game late as Miami's defense had enough fooling around. Harris would proceed to throw 2 TD's and Cooper would run one in to put the Canes up by 15. What a crazy comeback, the way Harris was playing had me scared for a bit. The star of this game was a first, WR Hankerson, he had a monster day catching the ball. He was always open when I needed him to be. The regular season ends on a high note.
Miami is now 6-6 and are awaiting to see which bowl they have been invited to.
J. Harris 20/33, 336 yds, 3 TD
G. Cooper 25 Att, 116 yds, 2 TD
L. Hankerson 7 Rec, 182 yds, TD
T. Benjamin 3 Rec, 93 yds, TD
S. Green 6 Tackles (4 solo, 2 assisted), 1 TFL
Defense had a total of: 2 INT's, 2 FF, 1 FR, and 2 Sacks
Wire Highlights Include:
1) Harris throws a 90 yd TD to Hankerson on 3rd and 21
2) Harris throws the TD that would put Miami up by 1 point
3) Cooper rushes in a TD that would put Miami up by 8
4) Benjamin hauls in a long bomb to seal Miami's victory for good.
