    MSU 42 FAU 24

Florida Atlantic falls at home to the Michigan State Spartans. This was MSU's season opener. FAU came out strong and scored on their opening drive but soon stalled and did not see much beyond the 1st quarter. MSU was brutal in the first quarter but then stuck to the running game and played conservative the remainder of the game as to not run up to score. FAU played well. Congrats to MSU Freshman LE J. Hawkins for a good start to his career, including 1 Sack and 1 INT.

The Iowa Hawkeyes headed to East Lansing. MSU was looking for the upset as they scored 7 in less than a minute. BUT no surprise as those would be the only points the Spartans would see as they lose to the #1 ranked Iowa. Another big loss on the day was Edwin Baker for 2 weeks due to broken ribs. The defense was horrible in all aspects, nothing good came from them, nor did anything good come from the offense. Spartans played a horrible game of ball. Can they ever get a break? No.
