Vols get an insta commit from the big TE. Might get some playing time next year with one of TE's graduating.

Vols Lose Home Opener to Wildcats, 31-24

The Tennessee Volunteers had high hopes coming into the 2010 season. It all kicked off Saturday as the #25 Kansas State Wildcats came to town. The Wildcats would escape with 31-24 win over the Vols. Kansas State controlled much of the game, out gaining Tennessee 529 yards to 267. Still, the Vols were in the game right up until the last minute as Nick Stephens couldn't muster a game tying drive against the pesky 4-2-5 defense of the Wildcats.

Stephens had an awful day, throwing for just 44 yards. Super Sophomore Bryce Brown almost carried the Vols to victory, scoring 2 TD’s and going for almost 200 yards on the ground.

Next week, Florida comes to town. Can the Vols get the passing game going to stay in the game with the high powered Gators? Stay tuned…

    Florida escapes Knoxville, win 21-20

Tennessee gave it all they could, trying to take down the rival Gators but it was not meant to be. The Vols missed a go ahead field goal attempt with just under 2 minutes left in the 4th as the Florida Gators were able to chew up the remaining minutes and escape with a one point victory.

Neither team ran the ball especially well. The Vols super sophomore Bryce Brown was knocked out of the game early in the 1st quarter. David Oku stepped in but found tough sledding against the Gators run defense. Nick Stephens bounced back from his dismal performance against Kansas State the week earlier. He threw for over 200 yareds and had a touchdown.

Next week, the Volunteers travel to Baton Rouge for another tough user game in the SEC against the LSU Tigers.
