    2010 Texas A&M Aggies..Coach Millhimes Blog

Started the season out on the WRONG foot. We had michigan St in our house and left one go. I was brought here to win and I left everyone down today. Our team showed we could pass, run, and play great defense. In the end, we choked.

We managed to snag a 7-0 lead after Jerrod Johnson hit Jeff Fuller for a 66 yard run and catch to the Spart's 4 yard line. Vela took it in for the score. After a 3 and out, we took control again. Johnson hit Fuller again on a short screen. Fuller took it 63 yards for the score to make it 14-0. Everyone was happy in Aggie Land..That was then.

Second quarter see's Michigan St give us the ball on a pick. We in turn go down field and throw a pick of our own at the Spart's 25 yard line. Michingan State gets motivated and scores to amke it 14-7 with a minute left in the half. We come out throwing and running fast. We go down to the A&M 48 yard line only to fumblw it away....Lost cause..A&M UP 14-7 AT HALF.

Michigan St gets the ball and goes right back down to tie the game. Johnson once again throws a pick and Michigan St jumps all over it. 2 more field goals make it 20-14 and A&M is lost.

The Fourth see's A&M on a 12 play 78 yard drive that ends with Vela taking it in from 3 yards out to make it 21-20 afther the extra point. ( Took us 4 plays to get it in from the 4). There is 50 seconds left. Michigan St makes some great plays and marches down the field. They get in field goal range with 16 seconds left. I tried to ice there kicker but he wasted me with a field goal that went to the left and nearly hit the pole. We get the ball at the 30 but a failed pass to Fuller seals my doom. Aggies 0-1

Thanks for the game King . Cant wait to visit your house next year.

Texas A&M Roll Over Utah St 42-10

Wow. What a difference a week off makes. I spent some valuable time recruiting this week and the rest on our gameplan after the let down in week one. Our opponent this week was Utah St.

Utah came in 0-1 and needing a spark for a win. Our boys were not ready for that. The opening kickoff was just the start. Brandon Jackson received the kickoff from Utah and took it 89 yards for the score and it lit a spark in the house with over 80,000 aggie fans in it. It didnt take Utah long to strike back. We held them to three third down plays but they kept converting. There biggest play was a 60 yard pass from Fischer to Sawyer to tie it up at 7 with 6 minutes left in the quarter. I knew we were being pressured with there pass and it was time to adjust. We struck back with a 9 play 80 yard drive that ended with Jerrod Johnson taking it in from 9 yards out for a 14-7 lead. AGGIES LEAD 14-7 AFTER ONE

Utah went three and out on the next drive and we struck again. This time Johnson hit McCoy for a 28 yard pass down to the Utah 1. Jerrod Johnson again called his number with an option run from the one to take a 21-7 lead. Utah again went three and out. First play on our next possession saw Johnson set a new record for the longest pass in school history. Johnson hit Terrance McCoy for a nice 91 yard pass over the middle of the field. McCoy had his man beat by 5 yards and took it the distance for a 28-7 lead. Utah managed a field goal just before half. 28-10 AGGIES AT THE HALF.

The good news was that Utah would not score again. Both teams traded possessions before Johnson would lead us on a 12 play 90 yard drive capped by another option run that saw Johnson take it 4 yards for the touchdown and histhird of the day. 35-10 AGGIES AFTER THREE

The Fourth saw alot of mistakes. Utah fumbled the ball twice and lost it the first time. Johnson threw a pic. We did manage to stop UtAH ON THERE OWN 40 ON A 4TH AND 2 PLAY. Moss caught Fischer on a scramble and took him down behind the line. Johnson capped the day off with a 2 yard touchdown pass to Keith Williams. Aggies win 42-10

Aggies Shock #9 Oklahmoa St 36-24

College Station Tx- Wow. This game had so much to say about our team. As a whole, we knew we could take care of business against the #9 ranked Oklahoma St Cowboys. I just wanted our boys to show us they believed and they did.

A game in which was tied at 7 in the first ended with the Aggies upsetting the Cowboys 36-24. I was shocked by how easy we pulled this win out with. Our defense was the all around player here. We got to Cowboys QB Zac Robinson 4 times in the game as well as picked him off twice. The most critical things in this game was the Fourth Quarter pick of Robinson and the Safety we put on him in the Fourth.

We gave up two defensive touchdowns ourselves which were the only touchdowns of the game for the Cowboys. Johnson ran a bad option play that ended with a handoff to the Cowboys who returned it 40 yards for an early 7-0 lead. The Cowboys also picked off backup QB Tannehill late in the 4th and took it back 94 yards for the score.

Our main stars were Jerrod Johnson who was 19-24 for 240 yards and a touchdown. He also had 49 yards rushing. Speaking of rushing, Cyrus Gray had 84 yards on 29 carries and 2 touchdowns. Our FB Alex Vela had 5 carries for 5 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had the one touchdown reception. The Aggies outgained the Cowboys 415-193. Great game Aggies..Here is a look at the Safety ....

The Aggies jumoed out ealy with the Johnsin TD pass. They also lost a big opportunity when Johnson threw a pic at the K-State 24 yard line in the second. Terrance McCoy had 74 yards recieving and the lone touchdown catch for the Aggies who improve to 5-1 on the year

Aggies All Over Iowa St 49-0

College Station Tx - WOW. I say it every week but this is a major wow. My boys put up 49 points and pitched a shutout for the 1st time in 5 years. The Aggies are now #25 in the nation and likely moving up.

Jerrod Johnson started shakey but finished 29-46 for 416 yards and 3 touchdowns. He did have 2 INT's. Johnson has set the school record for passing touchdowns with 23. Congrats Johnson. Our Backup Tannerhill had a nice game off the bench. How about 7-7 for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns including a highlight that came when Johnson took a bad hit. Tannerhill hit Cyrus Gray on a big 49 yard catch and run in the second that broke a scoreless tie and started an eruption from our offense. Gray also had 59 yards rushing before leaving in the 4th with a twisted ankle.

Terrance McCoy had 9 catches for 124 yards and a touchdown. His brother Josh had 7 catches for 58 yards. Throw in Morrow with 8 catches and 140 yards and you have a heck of a recieving corpe.

    As for game stats...

    Aggies had 27 first downs

    Cyclones had 7

Aggies had 666 yards of offense....(SCARY)

    Iowa had 114

Iowa was 2-13 on third down

    Aggies were 7-12.

    #21 Aggies Upset #3 Colorado 24-16

Boulder CO - Coach Millhimes and the Texas Aggies predicted a close game and thats what they got against the #3 ranked Buffalo's. What they didnt expect was to lead the entire game expect the first 2 minutes.

The Aggies outgained the Buffalo's 163-73 on the ground and Jerrod Johnson had a rushing score and two passing TD's to help the Aggies secure a 24-16 upset over Colorado.

" We could have won this game by alot more" said Coach Millhimes. The Aggies missed 2 field goals in the first half that could have given them a 13-3 halftime lead. Instead, the Aggies used a Jerrod Johnson rushing TD to take a 7-3 lead with 3:00 left in the first quarter. This held up until the Third. In the second quarter, the Buffalo's got a scare when Cody Hawkins went down. He was able to come back into the game after a few minutes.

The team traded possessions in the thrid quarter when the Aggies hit paydirt.
Johnson hit Terrance McCOY for a 6 yard touchdown to take a 14-3 lead.

The Fourth saw the Aggies open it up when Johnson hit McCoy over the middle for a big 51 yard touchdown pass to amke it 21-3. The Buffalos answred back when Hawkins hit McKnight for a 46 yard catch and run. The 2 point conversion was no good and it was 21-9 The Aggies recovered an on side kick and turned it into 3 points with 3:00 minutes left. It was 24-9. Colorado came right back and scored when Hawkins hit Geer on a crucial 3rd down play for a 5 yard touchdown to make it 24-16 after the PAT.

The final play was crazy for Coloado. After an onside recovery, Hawkins hit the HB with a screen and he ran it all the way to the Aggies 16 yard line with 6 seconds left. They hurried to the line but it was to late...

    COACHES THOUGHTS

Big Win against a tuff Colorado team. Coach Murk came at me hard and I thought he was gonna make a big comeback.
