    Houston 29 North Texas 20

Houston wins first game of the 2011-12 season under new Head Coach Big Slick in sloppy fashion. Senior RB Beall had a monster game has Coach Slick looks to bring a more balanced attack to the once pass happy Cougs. QB Keenum struggled all game throw 2 picks with only 1 TD.
The 1st qtr opened with the cougars receiving the opening kick off and driving down the field with ease. From the 15 yrd line RB Beall busted one up the gut and looked to score but was hit by the SS and fumbled the ball with North Texas recovering on their own 2yrd line. Houston would tackle UNT for losses on first and second down inching them back to the goalline. Then on 3rd down UNT QB dropped back to pass and the cougars were able to get the sack in the endzone for a safety. Houston would get the following kickoff but were unable to do anything with it. On UNT next possesion they were able to drive down the field and get 3 pts to take the lead 3 to 2. Houston would counter when RB Beall took it off the left side and out ran the defense for 75 yrds for the score. Houston would go for 2pts to make it a 7pt lead but were unable to convert. The cougs would get one more score in the 1st qtr to make it 15 -3 to start he 2nd. North Texas started the 2nd with a 56 yrd td pass to pull within 5 at 15-10, but Houston would match that with a 26yrd pass from Keenum to WR Johnson for a td to push the lead back up to 22-10. UNT would kick a FG to end the 2nd, but Houston would take the halftime lead 22-13. Both teams struggled in the 3rd qtr to find a rythem until UNT scored on a 44 yrd pass to pull within 2pts at 22-20. Houston would have the only score of the 4th on a 5yrd rush by back RB Sims to extend the lead and secure the victory 29-20.

    QB Keenum - 11/23 176yrds 1td 2ints
    RB Bealle - 22 carries 206yrds 2 tds

Next week The Houston Cougars will face a much tougher opponent when UCLA visits.

    Houston - 14
    #16 Auburn - 10

Houston rebounds from 2 straight loses with a big win over last years BCS Champion. The Cougs knew they had to step up big time on defense and turn this game into a grind it out game. Houston was not able to put any points on the board in the 1st half, but the defense held Auburn to only 3pts. Houston took the lead 7-3 with the only score of the 3rd qtr. Auburn scored a TD with only 1:18 left in the game to take a 10-7 lead and seemingly control of the game as Houston was struggling to move the ball. QB Case Keenum was able to move the Cougs down the field and connect on an 8yrd TD pass to regain the lead 14-10. With only 19 seconds left in the game Auburn took a couple of shots but was unable to convert.
