Twister18 - I will try and post my week 1 and 6 summaries when I get home... been a little busy as you know but vacation is over now
Week 1 - Cal 35 Fresno State 0
Cal QB Maynard had a big game, passing for 4 TD to lead the Golden Bears to the victory. He was very efficient in this game, completing 8 of 12 attempts for 168 yards. #1 WR Jones and #2 WR Allen each caught 2 TD in this game, with Allen leading the way with 88 yards receiving. The run game helped with starter Soflee gaining 72 yards and backup Briggs added 135 yards late in the game. He broke an 80 yard run. On defense the Golden Bears over matched Fresno State. FSU QB completed just 9 of 20 passes for 93 yards. The run game did worse as Rouse rushed for 9 yards on 13 carries.
Week 6 - Cal 34 Boise State 14
Maynard was a little sloppy in this game, throwing 2 picks, but he put up decent yardage with 214 yards passing. Soflee stepped up in this game and he was the difference on offense. He carried it 26 times for 118 yards, scoring 2 TD. As for receiving, Jones and Allen again led the way. Jones finished with 94 yards and a receiving TD, Allen finished with 66 yards receiving. The key play for this game came from the defensive side. Cal DB Anthony picked off a Kellen Moore pass in the end zone and returned it 107 yards for the score. This came with 21 seconds to go in the first half. Instead of 17-14 at half, the game was 24-7. The Bears defense gave Heisman candidate Moore problems throughout the game. Moore completed just 9 of 19 passes, including 2 interceptions.
Things do not get easier for Cal as they take on Oregon in week 7. This will be a key game if the Bears want to stay in Pac 12 race.
Week 7 - Cal 34 Oregon 16
The Golden Bears D gave up a quick 3 to the Ducks but dominated the rest of the game. Oregon QB Thomas was picked off 4 times and the Ducks also fumbled a punt return. Cal QB Maynard was not much better with 3 picks, but the run game carried the load. Sofele carried it 27 times for 107 yards and he scored 2 TD. HB #2 Deboskie also scored a TD and he added 79 yards on the ground. WR #1 Marvin Jones scored the other Cal TD, catching the lone TD pass from Maynard.
Week 8 - Cal 17 USC 7
Cal put together several medium to long drives, but kept failing to produce points. Kicker Tavecchio missed a couple ~50 yard field goals and the Golden Bears were also stopped on a 4th down try. The only touchdowns scored by Cal came off big plays. HB #1 Sofele broke a huge run up the middle of the Trojan's defense. He ran 69 yards for the TD. The other Cal TD was a pick six by CB Williams. He scored from 54 yards. The play of the defense was the key for Cal. The defense did not allow any points. USC's only TD came on a pick six. USC gained just 5 first down and converted 20% of their third down attempts. The Cal HB duo of Sofele and DeBoskie carried the load for the offense. The pair combined for 183 yards. QB Maynard passed for just 85 yards and completed only 7 of 20 attempts.
Week 10 - Cal 28 Notre Dame 14
The Irish scored on their first 2 drives but the Cal D stepped up after the second score. As for the offense, Maynard got back a TD in the second quarter. He completed a 23-yard TD to TE Miller. In the second half Cal's run game took over. Starting HB Sofele was out of the game but backup DeBoskie was a beast. He scored 3 touchdowns and rushed for 163 yards. DeBoskie's rush attack and the Cal defense brought home the victory.
Week 11 - Cal 51 Washington State 6
The Cougars actually scored first and led the game 3-0 going into the second quarter. At that point the Bears took over the game. After a tying field goal, Cal scored 3 touchdowns before the end of the half. Two touchdowns came off Washington State turnovers. The scoring run continues in the 3rd quarter. Cal added another 17 points in that quarter and increased WSU's deficit to 31. The offense was led by 289 yards from QB Maynard, including 3 TD passes. WR #3 Calvin led the receivers with 6 receptions 134 yards and 2 TD.
