Week 7: In what would have otherwise been a quiet bye week, Coach Urban Meyer suddenly stepped down and a new staff was brought in. Only time will tell how well they fare in Gainesville.

    Crocodile Tears for Gator Nation

In what was expected to be a tough game with a new staff being “fed to the bulldogs” so to speak, Florida lost 35-7 to the University of Georgia. Things started out fine for the Gators in Gainesville. Georgia scored on their opening possession but the Gators responded with a touchdown on their own. It wasn’t long however before things would be derailed. Working on 3rd down near the Florida goal line the Georgia Quarterback zipped a pass in between two defenders who could neither catch nor tip the pass. On the ensuing kickoff, the Gator return man squirted the ball out leading to another Georgia touchdown and a fourteen point swing in the score in under a minute. That would become a trend as Florida would hand out two more fumbles. Things were no better in the pass game. Everyone expected Georgia’s more experienced team to have a better familiarity of the playbook, but even when Florida’s receivers got behind the defense, painfully underthrown passes would fall into the hands of the waiting Bulldogs secondary who seemed to be instantly able to gather the velocity, trajectory, and effects of wind velocity on the ball. It was as if the more experienced Georgia team could do whatever they wanted with the push of a button. This is Florida’s second loss of the season and first under the new staff. They will have to try to avoid further shortfalls if they expect to remain in Gainesville on more than an interim basis.

In latest Gator news we also lost to Kentucky. We have to win out to see a decent bowl game. Got Vandy next week the only "easy game" left on the schedule. Pretty much every recruit left on the board is visiting for the Vandy game

Coach Urban Meyer stepped down after Florida's loss to LSU.

New coach Brianton came in and got off to a rough start, getting killed by Georgia and then experiencing a hangover losing to underdog Kentucky.

This week the Gators came home to the Swamp after their tough road trip. The buzz around Gainseville was all about Brianton being on the hot seat. If the team lost to the Commodores they would have called for his head.

Fortunately, Florida was on. While it took the offense a while to warm up, the defense was sharp from start to finish, allowing 106 yards in the first half and just 43 in the second with their only score coming in garbage time with less than 0:30 left in the game.

Florida's offense got it going too. The team had 209 yards through the air and no interceptions, but the rushing game was really key. The team put up 247 yards, but lost starting halfback Jeff Demps for 4 games. He was spelled by Sophmore Mike Gillislee who embraced the opportunity and picked up 207 yards.

Florida's offense was by no means solid. The team sputtered at times going 12-32 in the passing game and 5-16 on third down plays and 2-4 on fourth down.

This was a big win for Gator recruiting as well with SS Brian McCoy, T Pat Stanley, FS Bill Roberts, and WR Tim Campbell on hand for their official visits.

    Don't Call it a Comeback...

The Florida Gators went into a make or break game Saturday afternoon... and well... they broke. After snapping a 3 game losing streak against Vanderbilt, the #19 Gators went to the home of the #22 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks in need of a big win. And they got one... oh wait... no.

Florida had a rough day with constant huge cocks sacks. Florida's QB had trouble in the pocket early and at the start of the 4th quarter it looked like somewhat of a blowout with South Carolina up 24-7.

That is until the Gators opened up a can. Down 10 with just 2:32 on the clock Brantley threw a 64 yard pass to his backup running back. South Carolina's offense came back on the field but had no luck and punted it away. The Gators now found themselves trailing by 4 on their own 25 yard line with just 1:32 to go.

And they went. Deep. Brantley threw another long TD pass and the Gators took a 4 point lead. I would love to now tell you that the clock expired and coach Brianton got a gatorade bath.

However, in just over a minute, South Carolina took the ball 70 yards, sealing a 31-28 win.

Florida had just one more chance with :22 remaining and moved the ball well. With 4 seconds left Brantley threw again toward the end zone. A Gator got his hand on the ball... but didn't keep it there... and so it went.

The now 6-4 Gators have one more tough test with the in state rival Seminoles. Win or lose, their hopes at a decent bowl game are pretty much shot. However, the win against Vanderbilt assures that they will at least go bowling.
