2011 National Title Game #2 Michigan(10-2) vs. #1 Penn State(12-0) The BCS computers have spit out yet another mess. The Michigan Wolverines somehow were awarded a berth in the title game instead of teams with better records. Coaches acroos the country are bewildered by this, but UM vows to prove their worthiness. Penn State on the other hand comes in unscaved, a perfect 12-0. Led by Maxwell Award Winning QB Keviin Newsome the Nittany Lions have demolished the competition all year en route to the SuperDome for the title game. Penn State QB Keviin Newsome: 200-285, 3597 yds, 39 TD 6 INT RB Curtis Dukes: 882 rush yds, 13 TD WR Chaz Powell: 47 rec 979 yds, 13 TD MLB Mike Mauti: Leading tackler with 105 tackles. 7 sacks. LE Kevion Latham: 11 sacks Penn State has a very balanced attack offensively. The passing game is very efficient and the triple option attack that is sometimes used to run the ball also is executed well. Senior LB Mike Mauti is the unquestioned leader of the D. He patrols sideline to sideline very well and those 4 down linemen get pressure on the QB. Michigan QB Tate Forcier: 91-144 1537 yds. 20 TD 4 INT, 539 rush yds, 7 rush TD RB Teric Jones: 107 att 630 yds 6 TD RB Bruce Harwell: 68 att 552 yds 10 TD WR Martavious Odoms: 24 rec 596 yds 6 TD SS Brandon Smith: 64 tacks, 2 INT LE A.LaLota: 7 sacks The UM triple option has been key to their success this year. When the O-line is blocking the offense is deadly. The key to the O is the line. Forcier in the pocket with time is as effective as any QB and if these runningbacks can get into space they will carry UM down the field. Defensively, some personnel changes have been made throughout the year that have paid dividends for Coach Hood. The secondary has been questionable all year, but if the front seven can get pressure on the QB they should be fine. PSU won the regular season game 23-7. They did a wonderful job of forcing Forcier into quick passes and they stuffed the rushing game all day. Newsome had a decent game but he did not have 1 of his best days statistically. Both coaches are now a bit familiar with each other and know what adjustments need to be made. PSU comes in as the favorites as they should, but the Wolverine Program has proved to play better as the underdog over the last 3 seasons. It should be a great match-up between these two Big Ten teams. Post your predictions and thougts!
