    2011 Preseason Predictions

So I was bored and looking through the forums today and decided to steal this thread from The 4th Horseman to stir a little discussion.

Basically, with 2011 set to drop in 2 weeks, who are you looking at on your team to standout and carry you to a championship this coming season?

I'm just going to list my top 3:

    Michigan State

    1) LB Greg Jones -- No brainer, he's probably the best LB in the nation.

    2) QB Kirk Cousins -- If the teambuilder ratings are at all indicative of the actual ratings, they actually got Cousins about right. He is an above average QB with a very high ceiling, and I'm look for him to have a breakout year.

    3) WR Keyshawn Martin -- Martin saw limited playing time on offense last season, appearing on 3rd downs and in the wildcat formation once or twice a game. Martin did the majority of his damage in the return game...see the games against Iowa and Minnesota or the bowl game against Texas Tech. He possess breakaway speed and is listed as the #3 WR this year for MSU as they look to get him more touches.

I will also list a top 3. Good [stolen] thread idea JC!

    Auburn Tigers

    1. HB #23 - Onterio McCalebb

McCalebb is the real deal, and is quick as a cat as a true sophomore. He tops out at 83 speed, but look more closely and you'll see where he will do his damage: 96 agi, 95 acc, 85 brk tak, 86 elu, 85 spin, 88 juke. It will be interesting to see how these ratings translate to the game itself, but I see VERY bright things in McCalebb's future. Do not be shocked if he is able to unseat senior Mario Fannin in summer camp.

    2. QB #2 - Cameron Newton

All signs are pointing to Cam Newton being the signal caller for the Tigers this season. The interesting thing to note here is that he is a phenomenal athlete, but his arm is suspect. Coach Basis will have an interesting time deciding what kind of offense to run with Newton at the helm. Since he is a junior, it doesn't even necessarily need to be figured out in year 1.

    3. FS #2 - Aairon Savage

Savage has been highly touted his whole career, but has been mired down in high expectations and injuries. Looking strictly at his attributes, he has the potential to be an All-American Free Safety and the anchor of Auburn's secondary. We'll just have to see if he WILL.

    Notables
WR #89 (Jr) - Darvin Adams: 92 speed, 6'3" possession receiver
HB #5 (Fr) - ????????????: True frosh looks like a better HB than McCalebb down the road

I'd like to see the rest of my defense on the field before commenting -- they look serviceable but not spectacular.

    For Texas:

WR Malcolm Williams - One of the highest rated guys on the offense and really the main receiving threat.

QB Garrett Gilbert - His stats aren't mind-blowing, but he seems like a jack of all trades QB. His play will be key for the offense to be successful.

LB Emanuel Acho/DE Sam Acho - The two brothers will be the key players in the front 7 and stopping the run. The defense on the whole is pretty young but talented.

CB Aaron Williams - The anchor of the secondary, his ability to play man coverage on the opponents top WR will be extremely important in this years game.

I think that the team is a year away from truly contending for a 2010 BCS title, due to the youth of the team. But with really good looking freshman at nearly every position, look out for the Longhorns in 2011 and 2012.

I'm at least a couple of years before I'll be contending for a Big 10 title, but here are the guys I'll rely on early in the OD.

    1. SO QB Denard Robinson - My offense requires a mobile QB that can do what I need him to do and Denard fits the bill. Despite the fact that he's rated 5 points lower than Forcier I'm going to go with Denard since I went with Forcier in '10. I'm even more excited to see what Gardner can do in a few years.

    2. HBs Vincent Smith/Mike Shaw - My offense also requires solid backs and these 2 are the best I have to work with for now. Smith is a year away from being a star and Shaw will graduate before he ever becomes one, but these guys are going to have to carry the load until I can get a couple of studs @ HB (which will likely be my top priority for recruiting).

    3. Mike Matin/Craig Roh - My defense sucks ass so I need these 2 guys to be my anchor and try to lead the team. I'm REALLY hoping that Roh is an OLB on our roster like he's supposed to be instead of a DE like he is for the 2nd year in a row on the default rosters.

    Alabama Crimson Tide

    1) HB Mark Ingram: Everyone had to know this one was coming. As a Junior this kid has crazy insane stats, he has already lead his team to one championship and I think he has the ability to do it again. He is a cool 98 overall, with excellent powerback abilities, not the speediest but with 97 accel he could easily burn the best of defenders.

    2) QB Greg McElroy: After a roller coaster of a season he helped Alabama earn another national title to its records. Coming in at 92 overall he is a decent quarterback with good pocket skills. He doesn't have the strongest arm at 85 strength but he does have the accuracy (92). And in any event he goes down with injury he has some pretty decent backups. Overall I think he he has the potential to have a break out season before he graduates.

    3) CB Dre Kirkpatrick: This guy is 95 overall as a Sophomore. He is 6' 3" with some great attributes I think I should list:

    96 Speed
    95 Agility
    96 Awareness
    92 Pursuit
    95 Play Recognition
    97 Man Coverage
    94 Zone Coverage
    90 Press Coverage

He will have a great season no doubt, making any passing offense cautious passing to his side of the field. And as only a Sophomore he has a couple years to max out his stats and become one of the best players in the nation.

There are tons of other players I could list but these three stood out in my eyes.

Here are the starters for our teams (minus Suge's) for '11. I selected the best between FB1/WR3 and MLB2/DT2 to come up with the starters.

There are some ridiculous teams like Bama and aOSU where the starters average over 90 and then you've got teams like Auburn, the Michigan teams, and ND bringing up the rear averaging between 84-85.

I highlighted the best per position in yellow.

Good luck to anyone trying to knock off Bama, aOSU or Texas the first year!

Wow Jello good work! I'm surprised that Auburn doesn't have one player that is #1 at their position.

I know Bama is the defending champ and all, but giving them the highest rated player at nearly every defensive position?

    Can we all say 'overrated'?

Agreed. I really wish EA would wise up with their player rating systems. Anybody thats a 95+ overall is essentially a first round draft pick and I truly doubt the entire 2011 NFL Drafts first round will only consist of Alabama players.

This year they made the physics sim, maybe next year they'll make the rosters sim like Madden.

Either way, I look forward to my trip to T-town on Oct 2nd!

Good point with the draft, I know at least his CB is only a sophomore, and im sure a couple others are youngsters too, there shouldn't be many sophomores in the high 90s at all.

Coach Big Suge will take over Texas A&M beginning in two weeks when NCAA '11 hits the shelves.

Here's a breakdown of how our starters look based initial review:
    Column 1 Column 2
    POS Texas A&M
    QB 92
    HB 89
    WR 88
    WR 87
    WR 87
    TE 82
    T 89
    G 87
    C 93
    G 89
    T 88
    DE 86
    DE 95
    DT 86
    DT 82
    OLB 79
    OLB 77
    MLB 82
    CB 85
    CB 83
    FS 78
    SS 79
    K 84
    P 80
    AVG 85.29

We will need strong seasons from:

Senior QB Jerrod Johnson will need to continue his progress and improve upon his 30 TD 8 Int 2010 season.

Junior Center Joseph Villavisencio will be an anchor for a young offensive line.

Senior Defensive Lucas Patterson will anchor a strong defensive front along with fellow Senior Von Miller to help along a young inexperienced linebacking corp.

My prediction - Masler gets heckled by the entire dynasty mercilessly for the entire NCAA 2011 life cycle if he doesn't win the title year 1 with that vastly overrated Bama team.

I hope she takes up dance dance revolution as her new hobby to get back at you. (the people who lived above me in college played that shit all the time and drove me crazy listening to them jumping around)

I've been trying to figure out what three I want to put down on this list but I simply can't do it. Unlike in 09 and 10 when it was easily Tebow and Harvin as the top guys, this Gators team is loaded with all of my favorite guys. There's so much balance and guys I really like that I can't pick just three. I like'em all and I'm going to use them all.

Just gotta figure out what offensive playbook to use.....

I'm not sure FSU has 3 big-time guys.

Christian Ponder is obviously my main man. He comes in as the focal point of the offense and will be relied on heavily.

Rodney Hudson is the best player on my team, but unless its 4th and 2 his impact won't be all that easy to see. Btw, he is a guard.

Defensively, I'm really excited about true freshman LB Jeff Luc and cb Joyner. Time will tell for those guys.
