2011 The 2012 football season for our beloved Gamecocks will determine if last years blowout loss to Auburn, in the SEC championship game, brought our program a step closer to becoming a national powerhouse. South Carolina brings speed, strength, talent, experience, and most importantly heart to the gridiron. The Gamecocks of South Carolina and everyone of us that pronounces this team as ours will be in for a long and grueling ride this year. Hopefully more ups than downs, more smiles than tears, and more W's than L's in The Gamecocks 2012 season. Could this be the year South Carolina makes history? OFFENSE(RS) Senior Stephen Garcia has had a rollercoaster ride at The University of South Carolina. That is an understatement. Some say he shouldn't be here. Others feel indifferent. Some adore him. Be that as it may, Garcia has been one of the most historic and successful quarterbacks South Carolina has ever had. He's coming off a season of firsts for the Gamecocks. He has the talent to be very successful in the SEC. He has learned to be a leader on the field. Stephen Garcia could change everyone's view of him with a very successfull season this year. Sophmore HB Marcus Lattimore is sensational. His Freshamn year earned him The National Freshman of the Year award last year and has catapulted him into the NCAA's elites at his position. There has been talks of Heisman candidacy for this year as well as his remaining collegiate years. He is behind a very stout offensive line that has much experience. Lattimore rushed more 1197 yards last season before getting knocked out of the bowl game with a mild concussion against a verocious Seminole defense. That play left a sour taste in Marcus' mouth and looks to pick right back up where he left off. Junior WR Alshon Jeffery is none other than a beast. Perhaps the nation's best wide receiver by many. The one's who don't agree are only haters and probably Clemson and Georgia fans. Jeffery's skill and size at the position is uncoverable. He will shatter every receiver record in the books at South Carolina before his time is through and do so smiling. Alshon picked South Carolina over Southern California and other NCAA powerhouses. Alshon will have a monster season if he stays healthy. DEFENSEJunior LE Devon Taylor is a playmaker. His first ever play with South Carolina he forced a fumble that changed the outcome of the game. He has an ability to always be in the right spot for a big play. His 6'7" 248lbs frame is very difficuly for the opposing offensive line to block. Along with his speed and versatility, Taylor will give offensive coordinators nightmares. True Freshamn RE Jadeveon Clowny was the nation's number one prospect last year and chose South Carolina over everyone else. He has won the starting job outright for the RE spot and his 6'6" 247lbs frame will be an incredible couterpart of Devon Taylor. There will be no less skill and talent from the other end of the defensive line with Clowny. He will capture America's heart as well as his beloved Gamecock's. Junior CB Stephon Gilmore started as a true Freshman and is already a junior. He has started every single game during his collegiate career at South Carolina. He is an impact player and also a hard hitter. He has great hands and great understanding of what the offenses are trying to do. He positions himself very well to defend certain plays. Stephon Gilmore will be a very great football player at the next level.
