    UCF Knights 2011 Season Preview

Quarterbacks- Dual-threat QB Jeff Godfrey returns for his sophomore season after an impressive freshman campaign passing for over 2,100 yards, 13 TDs, and 8 INTs. He also rushed for 566 yards and 10 TDs.

Running Backs- UCF’s backfield will be loaded this season with 3 good HB options. Junior Brynn Harvey is expected to start after returning from an injury that kept him out of 2010. In 2009 Harvey rushed for 1,109 yards and 14 TDs. Senior Ronnie Weaver should see a lot of playing time as he rushed for 890 yards and 11 TD’s in 2010 and junior Latavious Murray will se time at HB and FB. He rushed for 637 yards and 11 TDs in 2010. It might be tough to have enough carries for these running backs UCF certainly is loaded at tailback.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends- AJ Guyton and Quincy McDuffie have speed at the outside receiver’s positions and both can play in the slot. Sophomore Marquee Williams is the wideout of the future and has a good mix of size and speed. Senior TE Adam Nissley is very good, but with the talent at HB will be required to block a lot.

Offensive Line- The offensive line isn’t UCF’s strength this year but they will look very good blocking for Harvey, Murray, and Weaver. They have youth at tackle and will only improve the next two years

Defensive Line- Defensive end Darius Nall should have a great season as a pass rusher in UCF’s 4-3 scheme. Sophomore DT Victor Gray will clog up holes and will be a big part of the UCF defense this year and in the future.

Linebackers- UCF is weak at the linebacker position but MLB Josh Linam will lead the Knight defense in 2011. UCF has a few freshmen who may not play much now but look to be decent backups this season

Defensive Backs- Junior Josh Robinson is a shutdown corner and should be able to hang with any receiver in the C-USA. FS Kemal Ishmael is the best player on the UCF defense any will be flying all over the field. Rumor has it that Ishmael is UCF’s 2nd string QB with 84 throw power and 79 accuracy. Depending on whether we allow custom playbooks, Ishmael should receive some snaps at wildcat QB.

Kicking- UCF has 2 seniors kicking and punting this season. They will need to focus and sign at least 1 kicker in the class of 2012.

Overview- UCF won the Conference USA going 11-3 in 2010 and is poised to make another run for the title. Their running game is good enough to hang with anyone and sophomore QB Godfrey will help passing and running. The defense is good but the offense will be winning the games for the Knights. UCF's smashmouth style of offense will be very good and if the defense steps up they can win the conference which is the #1 goal for the 1st year coach.

    2011 Preview
    Offense
    Spread - Starters Returning: 7

New head coach Rob Lung has a lot of work in store for him, but he has a good enough offense to be competitive in C-USA. QB Bryan Ellis (2,940 pass yds, 25 TD, 12 INT) and RB Pat Shed (1,318 yds from scrimmage, 5.4 YPC, 7 total TD) are both coming off great seasons. The duo also has the benefit of a sound offensive line that returns four starters to a unit that allowed a mere 12 sacks last season (T-12th in nation). The receivers are serviceable with junior Patrick Hearn (536 rec yds, 4 TD) the best of the lot.

    Defense:
    Base 43 - Starters Returning: 8

The defense had its deficiencies last year (31.6 PPG, 95th in nation), and the mediocre pass rush was weakened by the loss of DE Bryant Turner and his 6.5 sacks. But most of the unit is back, including run-stuffing DT Elliott Henigan (55 tackles, 15.5 TFL) and junior LBs Marvin Burdette (114 tackles) and Daniel White (55 tackles). Three starting senior DBs return to try to improve the team’s 105th-ranked pass defense (248 YPG) -- CB T.J. Ballou (3 INT), S Jamie Bender (94 tackles, 9 PD) and CB Marquis Coleman (7 PD).
