2011 Virginia Season & Recruiting Preview 2011 Cavalier Season Preview After Mike London's abysmal 1 -11 inaugural season at Virginia, coach London has high hopes for the Cavaliers 2011 campaign. The Wahoo's are putting the majority of their hopes on returning starters Ross Metheny (JR -QB) who threw for 2068 yards with 8 TD and 11 INT last season, Keith Payne (JR - HB) who ran for 757 YDS, 7 TD, & 3.3 AVG per carry, and star receiver Kris Burd (SR - WR) who caught 32 balls for a team leading 570 yards and 4 TD. On defense, the Cavaliers are led by junior MLB Steve Greer. Greer was the team leader in total (77) and solo (43) tackles last season, as well as assists (34). The defense has an abundance of experience but lacks in real talent. The D-line is absolutely mediocre and the LB core and defensive backfield are average at best. The defense will need to rely on scheme and preparation to help out the offense this year. The special team should be a reliable component for this years UVA squad. The unit is led by two seasoned vets at kicker and punter. Senior Robert Randolph will be kicking for the Hoo's this year, through his career he is perfect for extra points and a disappointing 52% on FG's. The Cav's need to get him closer attempts this season to help improve his FG average. Senior Jimmy Howell punts for UVA. He has a 41.7 career avg for the team with only 1 blocked punt. Coachs, Alums, and fans are hoping for a overall winning season and a bowl bid, major improvements from last year that should become the norm in Charlottesville. With a few more wins and a bowl appearance, the 2011 recruiting class should improve from the 2010 class.
