2012 QB Mid-Season Power Poll Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6 Rank Player Team (Career)Season Stats Reasoning Trending 1 Cody Wells UL-Monroe (143.2)196.2 QB Rating (335/640)163/252 (5755)2987 Yards (46/27)28/6 TD/INT (52.3)64.7 Comp% 2 Rush TDs Wells has made the leap this season going from 7th on the list to the top under new Coach AJ Speck. He tops the nation in QB Rating at 196.2 as well as TD with 28. He’s 2nd in the nation is passing yards with 2987. He’s third in the nation in YPG at 373.3. He’s put UL Monroe’s offense on the map as they are 2nd as a unit in total yards with 5,429 trailing only #19 Rutgers. He’s clearly dominating C-USA defenses despite his mediocre pedigree. ULM’s got 4 games left on the schedule and it will be interesting to see if Wells can challenge some season records. 2 David Isabelle UAB (169.7)181 QB Rating (482/811)155/230 (8985)2587 Yards (69/44)20/11 TD/INT (59.4)67.4 (7)4 Rush TDs Isabelle falls out of the top spot due to Wells extraordinary season not due to his own performance. He still ranks third in the conference in yards, QB Rating, 4th in TD passes and 1st in Completion %. I’m really quite amazed he’s been able to stay healthy for 3 season as he’s been sacked 118 times in his career including 32 this season. He’s still the most talented QB in the conference and Impact Player/Captain of the Blazers. The #’s hes put up this season are a testament to his own talent as he doesn’t have surrounding him. 3 Alex Carder Western Michigan (182.3)192.8 QB Rating (424/696)125/192 (8144)2309 Yards (68/32)21/9 TD/INT (60.9)65.1 Comp % (3)2 Rush TDs Carder looks like he’s on his way to leading the Broncos to back-2-back C-USA East titles as an Impact Player. As always he’s a great decision maker and is 2nd in both Completion % and QB Rating. He’s also thrown for 20 TD’s despite being towards the bottom in passing attempts. With 3 conference games to play and possibly facing a must win @ WKU in the final week of conference play Carder will need to continue his outstanding play. 4 Blaine Gautier UL-Lafayette 174.6 QB Rating 138/246 2877 Yards 23/13 TD/INT 56.1 Comp % Gautier has proven to be somewhat worthy in taking over for the fraudulent Chris Masson in Snoopys high powered passing offense. He is 2nd in the nation in total passing yards with 2,877. His biggest weakness is he throws a few too many picks with 13 on the season. Those prove costly when your defense can’t stop anyone. His 23 Td’s our 2nd highest in conference and if he can cut down on interceptions in the remaining 4 games he could rise up the poll as well as put ULL in position to win the West. 5 Dennis Brewster Utah State 170.3 QB Rating 122/213 2342 Yards 17/6 TD/INT 57.3 Comp% 7 Rushing TDs Coach Steamer clearly knew what he was doing when he named Brewster starting QB at C-USA media day. He’s led the Aggies to a 1 game lead in the West and a 7-1 season record where they are starting to show up in pollsters minds. In USU’s remaining 4 games they’ll square off against two of the teams trailing them in the standings in Arkansas State and ULL which should be the ultimate test for the freshman. Brewster should be a player to watch over the next 3 seasons as he’s got a bright future in front of him. 6 Kawaun "JQwon" Jakes Western Kentucky (132.2)133.3 QB Rating (339/648)79/148 (5818)1372 (30/35)7/10 (52.3)53.4 496 Rush Yards (19)9 Rush TDs JQwon is continually plagued by the fact that he’s just not a QB. It’s really hard to rank guys like him and Brewster because they clearly have a bigger effect on the defense then their passing #’s would indicate. He’s clearly relishing the run game this season putting up 496 yards on the ground and 9 TD’s. If it wasn’t for 10 sacks those yard #’s would be even higher. Coach DCD is clearly embracing Qwon’s athletic ability in his Senior season.
