So we're past opening week & most of us had a nail biter. The Gamecocks of South Carolina suffered a heart breaker on a last second field goal to Duke. Lucky for them, it's early in the season and you can easily bounce back. I wish we could've watched every play of the Arkansas & Southern Cal game, it looked like a barn burner. The Trojans defended there #2 ranking by holding off the #7 Razorbacks. Arkansas shouldn't fall too far and with the explosiveness of the offense, I don't think it's the last time we'll see Arkansas ranked in the top 10 this season, as for USC, I'm already predicting they'll go undefeated now, the talent on this team is superior and as long as Barkley stays healthy I don't see anyone taking them down.
As for this week, we head to Camp Randall in Madison, Wisconsin. The Badgers narrowly escaped Wyoming last week and they'll definitely need a better performance this week as they host the Tigers of Missouri. Last week the Tigers blew out North Texas behind the arm & legs of QB James Franklin & the true freshman hands of WR Dorial Green-Beckham, the #1 overall player in the 2011 recruiting class. I'm sure we'll see much of the same this week with a little TJ Moe sprinkled in. For the Badgers, they didn't show much of there defense last week and it almost bit them. Coach TEClemson tried to hide some of the things they will use and it about ruined the season for the Badgers. Montee Ball led the way with 3 rushing scores & 121 rushing yards. QB Danny O'Brien will need to get off to a better start and WR Jared Abbredaris will again be relied on.
As another week unfolds, who will rise & who will fall?

In a boring game until the 4th quarter the Fighting Illini just tried to stay in the game. The game at halftime was 3-0 Stanford as neither team could kick long fgs and Stanford would manage a 23yd fg in the first quarter and that would be all as far as scoring goes in the entire first half. Fans were half asleep at halftime and it didnt get much better in the 3rd quarter as Stanford would get a safety after punting it to the 1 yd line and at the end of 3 Stanford had a 5-0 lead.
Thats when it got interesting Days would take a screen 47yds and set up an 8yd td reception to Lankford. Score 7-5
Stanford would say not so fast and would get in the endzone on a 19yd reception and not convert the 2pts conversion making it 11-7 Stanford
Langford would take a curl route 77yds and set up Days with a 1yd td run to take the lead 14-11 with 4:25 to go
Stanford would move the ball down the field and get 1st and goal but the Illinois defense finally held the run and on 4th and goal from the 2 yd line and 4 secs left Stanford would go for the tie and send it into overtime.
In overtime Brown would get an Int the first turnover of the game and after a 14yd run from Ferguson his only big run of the game Illinois would hit the game winning fg from 28yds out to win 17-14
    Key Performers
    Scheelhaase 11-17 238yds 1td
    Days 8att 41yds 1td
    Lankford 5rec 115yds 1td
    Brown 8 tackles 1 int
    Buchanan 5 tackles 2 sacks
    Stanford
    Nottingham 12-21 173yds 1 td 1int
    Taylor 28att 167yds
Fighting Illini improve to 2-0 on the year

OSU tackled Miami 35-25 on Saturday in a test of OSU grit.

Miami seeminly moved the ball at will. Their QB passed for over 300 yds and they also ran the ball well against a very good Dline for OSU. Braxton Miller once again led the way for OSU collecting all 5 TDs. The Oline failed to block for straight up runs for the HB, but the misdirection on read options and counters seemed to make the defense confused. AA DE John Simon collected his first Fumble in the game but only had 2 tackles. Somehow, against Miami (OH) and UMass have kept the All american out of the backfield. He's just not as good as we thought he was.

After throwing early and often to TE Stoneburner in game 1, Miller found slot man Evan Spencer open for 3 TDs while Stoneburner got 1. The Miami (OH) Secondary played very well though, forcing 2 INTs and holding Miller to a near 50% completion rate. While it shouldn't have been nearly as big of a test that it was. OSU is looking forward to the bye week to focus on getting some top recruits into Columbus.

I didn't even want to write up this f'in game, but now that I've had a night to sleep and calm down here it goes:

The Evans era at Texas A&M started with a giant THUD as the SMU Mustangs gallop into College Station and destroy the overhyped Aggies.

The dominance started early in this game as SMU takes the opening kickoff and proceeds to march right down the field to score after a long drive against the inept A&M defense. After a short drive that ended with a Jameill Showers interception, the Mustangs cover a short field to score again to make it 14-0 with 2:23 remaining in the first quarter. At this point, the Aggies would finally see a glimmer of hope as Showers takes a read option 50 yards to the house to get the Aggies back in the game at 14-7. This flame quickly gets ignited however as the shitty A&M defense gives up a long 68 yd TD pass two plays latter to give the Mustangs their 14 point lead back and make the final score 21-7 after one quarter.

On the first drive of the 2nd quarter, the Aggies offense showed some life but stalls in the red zone. A&M has to settle for a 31 yard FG to make it 21-10. On the ensuing kickoff however, SMU WR Der'ikk Thompson seemingly breaks two tackle attempts from every Aggie and takes it back 95 yards for another TD, 28-10 SMU. The choke job continues on the next drive as the Aggie offense again stalls, settling for another FG to end the half with a 28-13 score.

Could there be a chance for the Aggies, who were encouraged to "only" be down two scores going into the half? Coach Evans gave a spirited ass ripping to his team at half and demanded they step up in the second half to come back for the home fans.

The halftime talk seemed to have worked as the Aggies took the opening kickoff of the 2nd half and scored on a 4 yd TD run by backup HB Ben Malena to get within 1 score at 28-20 with just over 4 minutes remaining in the 3rd. All they needed to do was get a defensive stop to give the offense a chance to tie the score. This was not to be, as the defense quickly screws up again, this time allowing another TD in 3 plays, capped by an 18 yd pass for the score. 35-20 SMU. At this point the wheels totally fell off as Showers throws his 2nd interception of the day deep in the red zone. This is followed by a 96 yard run by SMU HB Zach Line tp finish the scoring at 42-20 SMU.

The A&M defense really blew it in this one, allowing big play after big play, missing tackles, blowing coverages, it went on and on. SMU QB Garrett Gilbert finished 18 of 35 for 307 yd and 4 TD with 0 INT. HB Zack Line finished with 179 yards on 11 carries, including the 96 yd TD run.

The offense was a comedy of errors as Showers finished 21 of 43 for 263 yd and 2 INT with no passing TD. He was probably not as bad as this looks as Aggie WR dropped an amazing 12 passes! This included 4 drops and no catches by our WR2. WR1 Ryan Swope was as advertised though, and saved what little there was to be saved with acrobatic catches from on erratic Showers passes. Swope finished with 14 catches for 148 yards on the day. The running game was also decent as HB Christine Michael finished with with 123 yards on 21 carries.

The aggies need to put this behind them quickly as they open SEC play next week against Vanderbilt, one of the weaker SEC teams. They need to get things figured out quickly to avoid starting league play in a hole.
