2012 Texas A&M Aggies: Game Summaries

A&M starts the season tonight with its first game of the season in week 2. For first time head coach BIG SLICK it was a blessing to begin the new era in week 2. The extra week was much needed in getting to know his players and installing his new offensive and defensive schemes.
The QB postition still has not been resolved between the Senior Tommy Dorman and the Sophomore Daniel Brooks. Word out of Aggieland is it will be a game time decision on who will start.
Senior RB Christine Michael regained his starting stop after being injured in 2011. He won his position competition during spring drills to hold onto his starting role, but if he struggles he may be on a short leash for Junior Kalvin Guyton.
The Aggie defense will be lead by all-american Senior DT Rod Davis and Impact Player Junior MLB E.J. Kelley. The defense is young starting only 3 seniors, but the young guys are ready for the challenge to step up and make big plays.
All of Aggie Nation will be tuned in tonight as their beloved Aggs travel to Death Valley to face the Clemson Tigers.

    Texas A&M 35 Clemson 17

A&M leaves death valley with a victory. The aggies opened the season against Clemson in the 2nd week with a new headcoach and first year starter sophomore QB Brooks under center. Who would be the starter at QB was the only question the aggs had not answered until game time. After a very close competition through spring drills the soph. started the game.
The first qtr was a back and forth with both teams feeling each other out. Clemson put the only pts on the board in the 1st qtr with a FG. A&M was able to answer with two td's and hold Clemson scoreless in the 2nd. A 1yrd dive by RB Michael and a 42yrd pass to WR McNeal put the aggies up 14-3 at half. We traded TDs in the 3rd qtr to put the score with A&M up 21-10 to start the 4th. After a 2yrd TD run by RB Michael to put A&M up 28-10 Clemson opened up their passing game and started to drive the ball down the field. A&M young secondary seemed lost. However, as it looked as though Clemson would score at ease from inside the 10, Soph FS Hawkins intercepts the ball on the 2yrd line and returns it 98yrds for the TD and puts the game away for the AGGS. The int is the longest in A&M history. Clemson scored a TD in the final 2 minutes to close the score at A&M 35 - Clemson 17.

A&M leaned heavily on RB Michael and their running game as they only attempted 11 passes for 180yrds but ran the ball 32 times for 150yrds.

A&M Player of the game: RB Christine Michael - 28 carries 161yrds and 2 TDs

The aggies bounce back from a tough loss to then #2 Stanford and win a laugher against the wildkittens.
Soph QB Brooks was able to forget about his 3ints against Stanford and had a moster day of over 300yrds passing with 3TDs
RB McMichael had another solid rushing performance with over 100yds and a couple of tds.
The aggs defense was pitching a shutout until QB Brooks threw a 3rd qtr int that was returend for a TD
All of the A&M starters rested the entire 4th qtr.

Big 4th Qtr by Aggs puts fisty cyclones away.
Iowa State came out fighting in the first qtr leading the aggies 14-7. The aggies defense was able to step it up in the 2nd qtr to hold ISU scoreless and take the half time lead 21-14. The aggies came out in the 3rd qtr and drove the first possesion down the field to score a td, but the cyclones answered late in the 3rd with a td of their own to stay within a td at 28-21. Once again A&M had to lean on their defense to hold ISU scoreless in the 4th qtr. And behind the running of SR RB Michael who scored two 4th qtr tds put the cyclones away.
Soph QB Brooks put up solid numbers but is still struggling with INTs throwing another 2 against the cyclones.

Game ball goes to JR WR Swope - 10 catches for 186 yrds and 1 td

    Passing - QB Brooks: 19/29 278yrds 1td 2int
    Receiving - WR Swope: 10recs 186yrds 1td
    Rushing - RB Michael: 31car 140yrds 3td

    Next up: Oklahoma State

    OKST 21

The aggies and cowboys traded scores throughout the 1st half to go into halftime all tied up at 21. With the aggies struggling to keep OK St out of the endzone Coach Big Slick really had to challenge his defense to step it up and make plays. The defense responded by holding OK ST scoreless in the 2nd half, while the offense was able to tack on 21 more pts. TAMU was able to come out of hostile Stillwater with a 42-21 victory.
Soph QB Brooks was able to manage the came by being accurate and not throwing ints.
Aggies relied heavily on there rushing attach which rolled up 213yrds and 4tds. RB Michaell left the game due to injury with 18car 86yrds and 1TD. JR RB Guyton was able to come in and have a workhorse type day with 27car 109yrds and 2tds.

Game Ball goes to aggies Defense.

Next up: #2 Colorado comes to Kyle Field
