    Preseason Preview

Coming off of a 9-4 2011 and an Outback Bowl win over South Carolina, Michigan is looking ahead at big things in 2012. Senior QB Denard Robinson returns and the buzz around campus is not only Heisman talk, but making a run for the National Championship as well. In 2011, Robinson racked up 1435 yards rushing, 2121 yards passing and 31 total TDs. Robinson will be flanked by Senior RB Vincent Smith (66 yards, 3 TDs) and Junior RB Fitzgerald Tousaint (153 yards, 1 TD). These two will need to fill a huge hole left behind by graduating Senior Michael Shaw. Smith, is very interesting as he has made huge strides in the offseason and has looked extremely dangerous in spring practices. Some coaches have made comments about him being as quick as Shoelace, but that remains to be seen. And Tousaint, is finally starting to look the part of the workhorse back that they recruited 3 years ago. In the passing game, Senior WR Roy Roundtree and his athleticism will be Denard's main target. On the offensive line, 6'8" Jr LT Taylor Lewan anchors the line that is promising 2800 yards rushing this year.

The defense has been a sore spot for Michigan for a few years now, but Michigan is optimistic that this year they will help win some game, rather than lose them. The leader of the defense is Senior DE Craig Roh. Roh will bring his pressure fromt he outside as Senior DT Will Campbell handles the middle. Campbell was named preseason All-American for 2012. Senior DB JT Floyd and Junior DB Cullen Christian were all names preseason All America, and it remains to be seen if they can live up to the hype.

With most of the talent on the offensive side of the ball, this team will be in more shootouts this year, but look for them to win many of them. With the otherworldly talents of Denard Robinson and the best supporting cast he has had to work with yet, this could be a dangerous team in the Big Ten. However, before they get ahead of themselves with BCS dreams, they need to contend with the 500 pound buckeye in the room.
