    2012 va tech

The hurricanes escapes blacksburg in what was one of the best games of 2011...

The 1st qtr was pretty much all miami as they jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead before the hokies even got on the board ending the 1st qtr 14-3....

The 2nd was all hurricanes as they scored 10 unanswered points holding the hokies to 0 points behind a stout D going up 24-3 at half...

But the hokies would not be run out of their own stadium that easy as the D stiffened up and the offense got rolling scoring 14 unaswered behind the running of senior RB evans to pull within 7 heading into the 4th...

The 4th began quickly as miami stretched its lead back to 14 on a 3 yd plunge frm rb bush... After a couple of defensive stops va tech finally broke a big pass as ju ju clayton threw a 69 yd strike to coale for the td pulling back within 7... Then on the hurricane ensuing drive thy forced them into a 3 and out forcing a punt that was muffed but recovered by the return man... On the very nxt play ju ju did a big no no under pressure he threw a pick 6 to the hurricanes D.... But juju regained his composure driving the hokies down the field and throwing a 23 yd td to gregory to pull within 7 alls the hokies needed was an onside and a quick score to force OT.... AND THEY GOT THE ONSIDE.... With 26 seconds left at their own 40 the hokies ju ju clayton threw a 20 yd pass ro wide open Coale but it was called back due to holding... The following passes were incomplete but on a 4th and 20 the hokies got wat they needed a 45 yd bomb down the sideline to boykins with 4 seconds remaining rushing to the line as best they could with 0 timeouts the hokies were un able to get 1 last pass off as time expired... Who knew the chain gang could get set so quick...

I noticed the speed of the chain gang last week. I could not believe it, the ball was set, the entire D was set, the o-line was set, and it took my QB another 5 seconds to get down the field. Sounds like it was a fun game anyway.

By the end of the 1st half the score was 31-7 as junior rb evans dominated scoring 3tds in the game running for over 140 yards... The hokies saw two wrs go over 100 yards as juju turned in a very solid game throwing no picks

Senior(rs) running back Ryan Williams season ends just as soon as it had began. Williams scored an early 36 yard td run after fumbling 2 times early he finally seemed to be settling into his starting job untill BAM!!!! His season was over after suffering a broken elbow that ended his college career...

But the show just had to go on As Ju Ju Clayton and backup RB Junior(rs) David Wilson stepped up for the hokies. After the Williams td it seemed to be all Utes as they scored 12 unaswered behind a fierce pass attack scoring on a 73 yard hook up from Wynn to Fitzgerald then on a 4 yard td run by Wynn... They would only see the enzone once more as Va Tech reeled off 27 unaswered (missing a 2pt)... The game ended 41-18.

    Ju Ju Clayton- 210.9 qb rating. 10-18 239 yds 3tds 1 int 10 rushes 33 yds 1td

    David Wilson- 16 carries 170 yds 1td

    DJ Coles- 4 rec 125 yds 2tds

Quinton Bass- 6 tkls 1 tfl 2 int

The hokies got the acc off to a fast start in the conference challange crushing Ucla 41-17. Both Ju Ju clayton and David Wilson had big days for the hokies and the D was just steller holding Ucla to just 19 yards rushing on 26 attempts. The hokies showcased Wilsons surperior speed all day as he touted the ball 21 times for 166 yards and 3 tds. Ju Ju Clayton continued to show his leadership and fast inprovement completing 11-16 passes for 170 yards and 2 scores most importantly he threw 0 picks. Using the short and intermidiate pass game he picked the Bruins D apart. The D kept the bruins run game under raps as they recorded 11 tfl and 5 sacks. Putting the game onPrinces shoulders who couldnt do it all by himself.

Overall this was a good and well played game by both teams UCLA just didnt have the firepower or explosiveness the Hokies had. But i see a bright future for the Bruins as Coach reechem is building a talented and speedy team that givin a year or 2 will be a contender. Good game reech

Va Tech got back to its winning ways beating conference foe #22 Clemson 41-26. But judging by coach DJ's interview you'd think theyd lost.

"Do I look happy to you? Sure the losing skids over but really look what their run game did to us, 18 rushes for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns. Really? The starter accounted for 14 carries 253 yards and 3tds. The back up 2 carries 89 yards and a score. Hell only person we could stop was the QB 2 rushes 8 yards. So am I happy $&ck no. First td run 87 yards next td run 62 yards next one was the lowest a whopping 29 yards next a 95 yarder. You cant be $&%kin serious. You want a quote from me. Our defense played like a bunch of &!tches."

Bright spots for va tech was the pass D limiting the tigers to 9 completions on 17 attempts for 148 yards no tds and a pick.

QB Ju Ju Clayton 172.1 qb rating 16-27 308 yards 2tds 1 pick.

RB David Wilson 30 carries 175 yards 1td
RB Zac Evans 5 carries 30 yards 2tds

Freshman phenom SS Chase Joseph 5 tkls 1 tfl
Junior Antone Exum 3 tkls 1 fmblrec 1td
Quinton Bass 1 tkl 1 int

Big Blue fall short of upset bid, lose in Blacksburg

Michigan started off the game with a bang!!! As return man Jerry Gallon took the opening kickoff 81 yard to the house. The defense stuffed the Hokie offense on the ensuing drive and the offense cashed in yet again on a Chris Parker TD pass to the TE Webb. But the Hokies came out swinging on the next possession marching straight down the field ending the drive on a 8 yard TD pass from Future Hall of Fame QB JuJu Clayton to speedy TE Thomas. After a defensive stand Michigan turnover and a Hokie TOD the wolverines again scored on a 1 yard run. The Hokies answered yet again with a td run of themselves. But michigan marched down the field with 1:24 left in the half to score with just 27 seconds left on the clock. But thats all the time the Hokies needed and they scored on a 16 yard TD from JuJu to thomas again. (The two would connect 8 more times throughout the game.)

The second half came and Va Tech mounted a methodical drive taking almost 3 minutes off the clock but had to settle for a fg. The defense held tough forcing a Michigan punt and the offense again marched down the field this time for a touchdown to go ahead for the first time in the game up 31-28 and they would never look back. The next drive Parker forced a pass into coverage of Freshman LB Estes who returned it 65 yard for the pick 6. But Michigan would not go down so easy as Parker rebounded and found Roy Roundtree for a 19 yard TD with 3:53 left in the game. The Hokies had to hold on to the ball here and milk the clock. They drove down the field yet again methodically converting on key 3rd and shorts which at first glimpse seemed short both times. with 58 seconds remaining and Michigan out of time outs the Hokies went in on a 17 yard run from 3rd string running back Zac Evans and the game was over....Va Tech survived and kept their slim hopes for a BCS at large birth.

Va Tech walks into the Big House and leaves with a BIG WIN!!! The final score says it all the Hokies were able to manhandle the Wolverine offense pretty much all game minus 3 drives. Forcing 3 turnovers 2 interceptions and 1 fumble on a punt return that changed the whole landscape of the game. Up 7-0 Michigan held Va Tech to a punt. Looking to coffin corner it Johnson punted the ball towards the sideline low and hard but return man Gallon came up to field the punt. BIG MISTAKE!!! As freshman CB Marvin Shelton ROCKED GALLON forcing a fumble that was scooped up by Junior SS Josh Jackson who took it to the house. After a booming 53 yard Fg by Andrew Michigan looked to regain the momentum but Freshman standout WR Derwin Davis took the ensuing kickoff back 101 yards leaving the Michigan defense in his dust. Michigan ended the half on another Andres FG then would never score again ending the half 14-13.

Va tech went on to score 21 Unanswered one of which was a 13 yard td pass from Gregory to Davis. Then a Estes pick 6, and the game was on ice from then on as RB David Wilson scored the last 2 TDs on runs one from 2 yards and the other from 30 out.

Senoir RE James Gayle had a career day breaking the Va Tech single game Sack record recording 5 on the day. The defense recoreded 8 on the day Dominating the Michigan line all day long.

The only glaring need for Va Tech though is the pass game which again fell flat at times as QB Gregory went 6-11 66 yards and 1 TD. I guess if you want a positive about the pass game, it hasnt been turnover prone at all as we have thrown 0 picks this season. But i know somehow i have to do something to change the dynamic of the game. Wilson can not do it all...

    Key performers:

David Wilson: 26 rushes 151 yards 2 TDs
    Derwin Davis: 234 All-purpose Yds. (43 receiving 190 KR 1 PR)
Josh Gayle: 6 Tkls 5 Tfl 5 Sacks

Virginia Tech: 12-1 Acc Champs, National Championship Runner-Up

This year was a bust no matter the record no matter the awards, it was win it all or nothing for us this year. And a blowout loss to SC just ruined it all. The run game in that game was absent because due to injury my freshman back up was out and Wilson was not the same after that leg injury he sustained. He showed no burst at all in the big game, and lacked the speed I was so accustomed to. But he tried to soldier through it, just was never able to get established. This placed the game soley on the pass game and knowing this the SC D was just able to tee off all day on Gregory who proved why he was never heavily depended on all year.

Next year looks bleak for us as we will have no QB, unless jesus just drops down from the heavens and dons a Hokie uniform I dont see us having much of a pass game again. But our D will still be stout, and our running game should be more power focused, the WR's will be speedy so I guess we shall see.
