New coach Rob G steps into a rebuilding project that will undoubtedly take some time. Simply put the Virginia football program is in shambles. OFFENSE: The only experience comes on an offensive line that will start four seniors. The bad news is they will all be gone next year adding to the task of rebuilding. Torrey Mack provides a glimmer of hope at the running back position compiling of 1400 yards the past two seasons. The Cavaliers' receiving core is mediocre at best, very lacking in speed and agility. Expect a lot of youngsters like Ryan Kirk and Stephen Baker to get in the game in order to build for the future. The Cavaliers will rely heavily on the run game this season as the quarterback position is bleak. Freshman Kellen Golden will get a look from coaches and start against Div 1AA opponent week one, but look for Ross Metheny to get his share of snaps. DEFENSE: The defense boasts a lot of experience, but still is not expected to be a dominant group. The bright spot is Steve Greer MLB and preseason All-ACC selection. He will be expected to be the coach on the field for a defense that will have to disguise its looks to hide a lack of speed in the secondary. Special Teams: Do not expect much here, walk-on freshmen kicker and punter will look to improve as the year goes on.
