"USC travels to the Smurf Turf and easily handles the the Boise St Broncos. McNeal had a great day running the ball and Matt Barkley was efficient with the ball in his first ever start. FS Mcallister also had a 106 Yard TD pick 6 as seen in the photo above. Next week the Trojans head home to welcome in the Florida State Seminoles."

I'll get my week 1 game in tonight but will probably be gone this weekend till Tuesday. Right now the weather is a little sketchy so I may end up canceling my trip but plan currently is to visit friends and family in Cleveland.

May seem trivial to beat a squad like Utah State, but considering we only won 4 games last season we'll take whatever we can get. Milton Knox had a nice day, going over 100 yards rushing with 2 TD's. Kevin Prince was a bit erratic throwing the ball, but did mangage the game well and did not turn the ball over. Next week the Bruins will host the Virginia Tech Hokies.

In his first game as Head Coach of the Seminoles, Coach Vredesbyrd's defense and special teams dominated, holding the Golden Panthers to 153 total yards and only 27 yards on 27 rushing attempts. Senior Free Safety Nick Moody led the defense with 13 tackles and a sack. Senior end Everette Dawson chipped in with 2 sacks of his own.

Offensively it was a different story. While Junior captain Lonnie Pryor carried the load with 170 yards and 2 TDs on 33 carries, the passing game under first year starter Wil Secord struggled. Secord finished 10/21 for 134 yards with 2 picks and no touchdowns.

They say championships are won with a running game, defense, and big plays on special teams. In order for the 'Noles and their first year coach to have hope for an ACC title, it is apparent that they will hang their hats on their defense.

The passing game must grow up, and grow up quickly if they are up to defeating the USC's, Miami's, and Virginia Tech's of the world.

With 5 seconds remaining in the game, Michigan SR QB Denard Robinson lobbed a perfect touch pass up the seam into the hands of redshirt FR Mike Woods for a 50 yard TD securing the victory. It was the previous 59:55 and 4 interceptions that Robinson and Michigan likely want to forget, as Michigan survives to win 24 - 20 against E Michigan. In fact Robinson was removed from the game twice on the afternoon, once for a shoulder injury and thn based on performance. While all the Michigan coaches and players stated after the fact that there was no Qb controversy brewing, Michigan fans have to be a little uneasy with the thought that Michigan will take on #4 Oklahoma in the Big House then travel to Austin to battle #1 Texas after next weeks bye.

Penn State was able to shake off a pesky Akron team bidding for an upset win over the defending BCS Champs. The Nittany Lions looked shaky in the first half led by Jonathan Johnson who started the game throwing the ball well and leading the Nittany Lions to 2 successful TD drives. But then Johnson got hit with the turnover bug throwing 2 picks. Taking a 17-15 lead into half, the Nittany Lions opened the second half with Matt McGloin who performed very well and might have won him the starting QB job. McGloin was 14/20 205yds 3 TD in the second half to pace Penn State. Heisman hopeful Devon Smith had 7 rec 145yds 3 TD. Brandon Beacham was carried the load with 83yds 3TD, but only avg 3yd a carry. Jack Crawford led the defense with 7tkl and 2 sacks but as a unit the play was inconsitant. Penn State will have to bring their "A" if they want to compete next week when they host the #1 Texas Longhorns.

    Texas - 50
    Wyoming - 3

Rushing and defense lead Texas past Wyoming in the season opener.

Chris Whaley and Tre Newton combined for 189 yards on 32 carries and 1 score. Garrett Gilbert went 14-17 for 166 yards with 4 scores (1 rushing). Dan Buckner started his Senior season quickly; catching 5 balls for 44. He found the endzone on 3 of his 5 grabs.

Tariq Allen led the defense with 3 sacks. Pete Day also helped Texas dominate the Cowboys by making 6 tackles (3TFL), 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery for a score, and a safety.

Next up for the Longhorns is a trip to Happy Valley for an early season showdown of 1 verus 2.

Oklahoma were the favorites in this one and came out on top but they still need to get this team inline. They need players to step up and fill in some holes. We have a lot of work to do here and hope we can improve on this. The offense looked fine but the turnovers to this team should not happen. We have to take this bye week and get our heads together to prepare for a tough matchup away at #24 Michigan.

    San Jose State - 19

The Ducks survive an early scare in a game that they were predicted to dominate. LeMichael James ran for two scores and over 135 yards and the Duck defense controled the San Jose's offense for the most part. However, Oregon quarterback Darron Thomas began his senior year looking like a scared freshman and threw five interceptions giving San Jose short fields several times.

The Ducks will have to do some serious regrouping to have any shot of beating Texas Tech next week.

The Red Raiders D surrenders an opening drive TD, and a couple big plays, but otherwise plays a solid game holding the Golden Hurricanes to under 300 yards of total offense.

First year starting QB, Seth Doege, manages the game well, and standout HB, Harrison Jeffers, puts two TD's on the board in the second quarter to lift the Red Raiders to a kickoff weekend victory.
