The Ducks send their seniors out with a loss at home in the snow to rival Oregon State in the Civil War. The run defense against a bigger back once again gave the Ducks fits as their defense could not get key 3rd down stops in the fourth quarter when Oregon needed them. The Ducks finish the year at 8-4 and will be headed to a non-Jan. 1 bowl again.

Vanderbilt dominates with a record setting rushing day, and blow out Tech at home. Wesley Tate, a 6'1" 222lbs junior halfback filling in for the injured Warren Norman, had 100 yards early in the 2nd quarter, 200 early in the third, and went over 300 by the fourth. He ended the day with 31 carries for 326 yards and 4 touchdowns, with 6 runs of more than 20 yards. On the play that broke the Red Raiders, Tate was stood up at the five yard line by a mob of Tech defenders, but somehow found the strength to drive the pile into the endzone. Tate seemed to break three tackles every play. It was truly the performance of a lifetime for this kid.

As for the Red Raiders offense, it was more of the same. They were able to keep up early, but as the game wore on, the early missed opportunities, turned into late mistakes. The Vanderbilt pass rush totaled 7 sacks, most before Tech replacement QB Garrett Riley, had a chance to get rid of the ball. When Riley had time to throw he was largely ineffective, repeatedly missing wide open receivers.

Texas Tech was clearly still suffering the effects of losing a close game at home last week, which effectively ended their season; but the way the Red Raiders really magnified some season long problems. The run defense was solid early in the year but crumbled down the stretch. The offensive line underachieved all season. Quarterback Seth Doege matured through the season and cut down on his mistakes, but accuracy was an ongoing problem.

Next season's roster does not give much reason to believe things will change in Lubbock. The Tech offense will be losing halfbacks Jeffers and Talbot, who combined for almost 1000 yards and 10 TD's, their 3 leading wide receivers, TE Castillo, and 3 starters on the offensive line.

    Penn State- 49
    Florida State- 24

Penn State jumped to an early 21-3 lead with an opening KR TD by Devon Smith and a pick 6 on the next possesion. The story of the game was the Nittany Lions rushing offense led by Robert Beachem who had a career high 239yds 3 TD. Devon Smith only played 1 half due to injury but the damage was already done. Penn State heads into the Rose Bowl with a full head of steam.
