Return to Glory!!!The Florida Gators reign as college football kings once again as they finish off the 2013 season a perfect 14-0 knocking off the Ohio St Buckeyes 35-38.This was an epic game as quoted by Coach Mason afterwards. The game started out slow when UF stopped OSU for a 3 and out on their first possession. The Buckeye defense would make up for it though when they hit QB Tom Richardson on UFs second play and DE M. Fellows made a shoe string catch to pick it off.Ohio St would take advantage of the turnover capping off a nice TD drive when QB Kenny Guiton hit WR C. Bennett for an 11 yd TD, 7-0 OSU. UF responded on their next possession when Richardson took an option keeper in from 6 yards out. The first quarter ended 7-7.Ohio St would score to open the 2nd quarter on a big play from WR C. Fields. The 60 yd TD pass was a result of a blown coverage as sophomore CB Ryan Greer thought the coverage was cover 2, but it was cover 3 and the WR ran right past him for a wide open score. 14-7 OSU.UF would try to respond, but got stopped in the red zone and forced to kick a FG, 14-10 OSU. Thankfully the UF defense held strong on the next possession giving UF the ball back with 1:10 remaining in the half and Richardson put together a nice drive setting up a 53 yard FG that R. Jackson nailed before the half. 14-13 OSU.UF received the ball to start the second half, and coach KSherm dialed up a playcall that's the favorite of SEC foe the Auburn Tigers. On 1st and 10, with OSU typically bringing blitz and zone blitz pressure we called the WR screen to Andre Debose. Whooooaaaa Nelllllllyyyyy!!!! "We caught the buckeyes in a blitz, and the play was wide open. We hit it perfect, got some good open field blocks, and Debose is the ultimate playmaker. Put him in space, and nobody's going to catch him or run him down." Debose carried it for 68 yards to give UF it's first lead of the game 14-20.OSU would answer right back to reclaim the lead with a 80 yd drive capped off by a 4 yd score by HB R. Smith. 21-20 OSU.On UF's ensuing drive, QB Tom Richardson would make a costly mistake as he misread a play and trying to hit Debose over the middle resulted in an INT by MLB D. Bell. Thankfully for the Gators, Coach Mason made his first mistake of the game taking a shot deep in the end zone but SS Jonathon Dowling playing for the injured Matt Elam showed the depth of that UF secondary when he made an amazing acrobatic catch to intercept the pass and give the Gators a breath of life. The third quarter ended 21-20 OSU.The Gators opened the fourth frame with a TD on the second play as Richardson took a speed option left on 3rd and 1 for a 20 yd TD, his second of the game to make it 21-27 UF.OSU wasted no time firing right back to make it 28-27 OSU. UF wouldn't wait to answer either as Richardson found Debose wide open for his 2nd TD catch of the day, this one from 70 yds out after he shook a would be tackler and raced to pay dirt. UF would opt to go for two this time and Richardson again crossed the goalline making the score 28-35 UF.Ohio St answered with another 80 yard drive capped off by a one yard TD by HB R. Smith to knot it up at 35 each.UF got the ball with 2:51 left and a chance to win the BCS trophy. On the first play, Richardson found HB Gillislee for 20 yds. On the next play he found Debose for 9. 2nd and 1 he hit TE Christian for no gain setting up a huge 3rd and 1 at midfield. "We made the playcall we wanted and got the right look. But Hammond got caught up on the MLB in the middle of the field and knocked off his route. The throw was close, and Hammond made a great play on the ball to convert the first down. Probably the game winning play right there." With 30 seconds left, Gillislee took it for 8 yards and then 2 yards to put the ball at the 30 with 3 seconds left. OSU tried to ice Jackson as he trotted out for the FG, but it didn't work as he nailed the kick to win the game from 47 yards out as time expired.Great game from Shaun and the Buckeyes. That's a very talented team and coach. Just when we thought we had them figured out on offense, they'd switch gears and hit us with something new. They kept us on our heels all game long. We came into this game wanting to stay balanced on offense, but that quickly went out the window as the defensive play of those front 3 linemen was off the charts. Thankfully Sophomore Richardson and Debose and the rest of the offense stepped up in the passing game to give us a chance.MVP: Off - WR Andre Debose, 7 rec, 188 yds, 2 TDsDef - SS Jon Dowling 3 tackles, tfl, INTNoteworthy performances:QB Richardson 185.0, 22/32, 412 yds, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, 5 car, 34 yds, 2 TDsQB Guiton 220.7, 22/29, 406 yds, 3 TDs, INTIt's funny cause in the first half it seemed neither of us wanted to get into a shootout. Then in the 2nd half, that's exactly what happened.
