    TT - 38
    TCU - 41

It was an offensive display in this one, in the first half I had nothing for the TT QB, he was hitting passes left and right and had given them a 14 point lead midway through the third thanks to some ineptitude by Casey Pachall. After going down by 14 things looked grim for the Horned Frogs and it didn't get better when Pachall went down with an injury on a QB Wrap play with them within 7, but luckily for TCU Trevone Boykin was here to play, taking a read option play 80 yards to the house to bring the Frogs within 7. After sweating it out on a drive the TCU defense finally stepped up and got a stop just over the 50 yard line. It was then time for a drive to the win, with HB James leading the team down with multiple third down conversions and helping to set up the easy chip shot as time expired to win it.

    Stats
    Casey Pachall - 12/18, 160 yds, 0TD/2INT; 16 att, 83 yds, TD
    Weylon James - 20 att, 163 yds, 2 TD
Trevone Boykin - 4 att, 130 yds, TD
    Brandon Carter - 5 rec, 71 yds; 3 att, 22 yds

    Utah 24
    Texas 10

Utah knew they'd need an efficient day out of the #7 ranked Longhorns on the road. Arizona ran the ball well on their first drive to take a 3-0 lead and Texas followed with a long FG drive, tying the game 3-3 at the end of the 1st quarter. The defenses held out in the 2nd quarter, although both teams did have chances to score. Arizona turned the ball over on downs in field goal range, and Texas missed a field goal at the end of the half, 3-3.

3rd quarter- Arizona stops Texas, then drives and scores. Texas answers to tie the game 10-10 with 2 minutes left in the 3rd. HB Ka'Deem Carey had been playing well, and Arizona was fine with giving him the keys to the offense from then on. He broke off a 39-yard TD run run right before the end of the quarter, 17-10 Arizona. Arizona's defense was able to hold off Texas's pass game on a few drives late in the game, and Arizona sealed it with the Ka'Deem Carey and the running game running off time and scoring late to win 24-10 in a big upset for the Wildcats. GG MexiRican35

    Arizona
QB Javelle Allen- 3-5 for 20 yards
HB Ka'Deem Carey- 31 carries for 228 yards, 3 TD
WR Garic Whartion- 2 receptions for 17 yards

    Texas
QB Ash- 8-16 for 128 yards, TD, INT, 13 carries for 16 yards
HB Gray- 10 carries for 47 yards
    WR Shipley- 37-yard TD reception

    Turnovers: Texas 2, Arizona 0

The #2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes came into Memorial Stadium at Berkeley but didn't show up until practically the second half. Cal went up 24-3 with 19 seconds remaining in the first half before Braxton Miller got the Buckeyes offense into gear. It took all of 3 plays over 15 seconds to drive the length of the field and put up the touchdown that got OSU back in it. The Bucks came close in the 3rd quarter but couldn't quite crack the code to score, but they did finally cut it to one possession with just over 4 minutes remaining. At that point, Cal had a chance to maybe put it away but failed with a 3 and out. Miller would drive OSU down inside the 35 but couldn't convert on 4th and the Bears escaped with the W.

Cal's Brendan Bigelow scored again early in the game but for the second straight game went down with a mild concussion early on. Keeping him healthy will be the key to winning these games so that's a concerning point.

.... And the Horse You Rode In On - Mustangs Thumped by Cardinal

    Stanford 22
    SMU 0

It wasn't pretty by any stretch of the imagination, but the Cardinal led wire-to-wire in a 22-0 shutout of SMU. 43 of Stanford's 45 rushing attempts went for under 10 yards (the other two at 10, exactly), but the defense held the Mustangs to only 110 yards of offense and came up with 3 interceptions.

Despite the outcome, Coach Boom29 seemed pleased by the defense's effort and hopes to take positives from this game going forward. Coach Cheez is just hoping that the offensive woes go away before the conference schedule begins. Stanford has struggled mightily, and there has been no signs pointing forward.

West Virginia Narrowly Thwarts a Husky Miracle

The Mountaineers got it first and quickly registered a three and out. The Huskies looked to capture the momentum on their next drive with a big pass on the post route, but the long ball was snatched out of the air by FS Karl Joseph in the endzone. West Virginia then strung together a mix of run and pass including a 49 yard option keeper for Ford Childress. On 1st and ten in the redzone though, Childress took a sack from a blitzing LB and the ball was scooped up by a UW lineman who rumbled all the way back for a TD to give his team a 7-0 advantage after the first quarter.

On the first drive of the second quarter, Childress picked apart the UW secondary, culminating in a 14 yard TD strike to even things up at 7. Two plays later the Mountaineers had it back on Price's 2nd INT of the game, this time trying to loft it over a SS in a short zone. WVU failed to get a first down, but the TO allowed them to get points anyways in the form of a 44 yard FG. Price would throw his 3rd INT of the half, to the same SS as the last. This INT was inside the 5 yard line, once again robbing the Huskies of possible points. Childress marched his team down the field and was in a position to get points, but a bad read would turn a sure completion and FG into an INT to end the half. The score was 10-7 West Virginia at the break.

The Huskies would start things off after the break but would be forced to punt. The Mountaineers would engineer a 13 play drive but a stand inside the 10 by the UW defense would result in just another FG to extend the lead to 13-7 as the 3rd quarter came to a close.

On the second play of the fourth quarter, price would throw his fourth INT of the game, once again trying to test FS Karl Joseph. WVU would then put together a back breaking drive with 9 consecutive runs followed by a swing pass where the WR broke 2 tackles before dragging a defender into the endzone. A 2 pt conversion would give the Mountaineers a 21-7 advantage with about two and a half to play. A minute later, Price would find his WR for a 35 yard TD on four verts where the corner simply got beat and let his man behind him when he had deep responsibility. With 1:30 left and only 2 timeouts, UW went for the onside kick.... and got it! The Huskies marched down the relatively short field with Price suddenly on fire and making the exact right reads for man or zone and eventually hitting his all world TE Jenkins for a score with just 12 ticks left. On the road and unable to slow the WVU rushing attack on the last 2 possessions the huskies went for 2, but a great play by Chroniger, the SS with 2 earlier INTs, would knock the ball out of the receivers hands. A second onside kick would end in failure for WVU to come out on top.

    Key Stats
    Rushing: WVU-159 yards, UW-(minus 45) yards
Keith Price was intercepted 4 times and took 10 sacks despite a rather conservative blitz strategy from WVU (most were coverage sacks)

    Oklahoma State: 34
    Oregon: 24

This one started out a little ominously for the Cowboys. After losing the coin flip, the highly touted passing attack went a quick three and out with Oregon almost getting a quick INT on third and 6.
Oregon would get the ball and drive down the field and score a TD to go up 7-0. Oklahoma St started to find its rhythm and drove inside the 10 only to settle for a FG. 7-3 Oregon after one.

De'Anthony Thomas would put The Ducks up 11 after a nice 11yd TD run. Oregon's offense was clicking on 3rd downs. CJ Curry would get The Cowboys in the endzone on the following drive with a 7yd TD grab to cut the lead to 14-10 with 2:34 left. Oregon would settle for a late FG, after a key sack would stall the drive. Okla St with 40 seconds left drove down field and on an accidental pass (looking at X, threw to Y) and a little luck, scored on a 44yd TD pass to Charlie Moore. 17-17 at the half.

Oregon would get the ball to start the second half but trow the first INT of the game on a nice play by the safety leaping and staying in bounds on a wheel route to Thomas. Ok St would find their TE for a 32yd strike and take their first lead of the game. Oklahoma State's defense would get a stop and QB Clint Chelf would score from 9yd's out. 31-17 Okla St.

Fourth quarter saw Oregon cut the lead to seven on a 16yd TD to Keanon Lowe with 4:27 left. This was a nice drive and deflated the defense a little bit as Oregon converted at least three long third downs. Oklahoma State's offense responded with what looked like a game sealing TD run but was called back for a clipping penalty and settled for a FG to extend the lead 34-24. The Ducks final drive ended with their second INT of the half and the Cowboys get out of Oregon with the W and a 2-0 record against the Pac-12 in the inaugural '14 season.

    Players of the Game:
    QB - Clint Chelf: 26 of 33, 359yds 3/0 (TD/Int)
    WR - Charlie Moore: 11catches, 160yds 1TD

    QB - M. Mariota: 18 of 29, 258yds 1/2 (TD/Int)
    HB - D. Thomas: 15rush 63yds, 2TD

    Stanford Survives K State

    Stanford 20
    Kansas State 16

The first half looked much like the previous two games for Stanford. Little offense, but a strong defense let them hang around. Midway through the third quarter though, the rushing attack found its mark (if only for a little while). Wilkerson and Gaffney would combine for 250 yards on the ground, with Wilkerson scoring the lone rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter giving the Cardinal their only lead of the game. The Kansas State QB was near perfect on the day, completing 12 of his 14 passes on the afternoon, but it wasn't enough.

I am clearly a noobie at this game :( I took about 8 3 man rush sacks because the pocket seems to break down differently. I am not feeling my normal urge to develop offensive tech and practice. This will probably change after I lose all my user games and real football gets back on the TV. Aside from out routes and Chucking I think I was negative total yards with 4 turnovers. Down 14, after 3.5 quarters with no offense, I basically reverted to Chucking late in the game. I really had no business being in that game. Also do not know how to run or stop the run. Perhaps they fixed it so blitzing is not good for run stopping, but I doubt it.

Blitzing is less good at stopping the run but still works some. Running game is improved overall, the HB sliding off of lineman and the line making blocks downfield make huge differences. You had some good moments, the sacks were the most damning thing. On a few of those out routes I was about to throw my controller, your QB must be really good because you threw before the break a few times and it was still on the money.

The interior of the defensive line gets a better push now. Not only do you have to worry about DE's off the edge, but also the line collapsing right in your QB's face. It's tough now.

also, because of this, you can't just take off with the QB as reliably as you could last year when there was outside pressure

Also seems like QB's have slower acceleration trying to scramble out of the pocket.

Course, that may just be because Ash is white.

Ash lead the way for the Longhorns, going 22-26 for 207 yards and a TD throw. The throw was caught by WR Davis with a CB on his back. The defense recorded 5 sacks that kept hindering the Bobcat offense for the shutout.

Horse Power on Display for SMU
    defeat Bruins 38-21

After a disastrous outing against the Stanfurd Cardinal, the SMU Mustangs were firing on all cylinders in Los Angeles.

The Mustangs scored on all four first half possessions to take a 24-0 lead on the strength of QB Garrett Gilbert's passing. After going 11/20 with 3 INTs in the loss to Stanfurd, Gilbert finished the day with an unreal stat line of 35/39 for 400 yards and 3 TDs. Trailing 24-0 late in the half, UCLA finally answered with a 24 yard TD pass to WR Devin Lucien to cut the lead to 24-7. Then, to start the third quarter, Brett Hundley finished off the drive with a powering four yard TD run to cut the lead to 24-14. Just as it appeared UCLA was going to make it a game, Gilbert again drove the Mustangs down the field before Hb Rishaad Wimbley scored from one yard out to reclaim the three score lead at 31-14. The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the last by SMU WR Der'rikk Thompson to give the visitors the final margin of victory 38-21.

recchem2000, Good game! It just wasn't your night. I got great pass blocking all game and didn't have any drops outside of the first pass play. The TD after you had scored to make it 24-14 was huge for me because it gave me breathing room and forced your offense to continue throwing.

    Notable Stats
    SMU Mustangs UCLA Bruins
QB Garrett Gilbert - 35/39, 400 yards, 3 TD, INT QB Brett Hundley - 10/23, 196 yards, TD, 2 INT
    HB Rishaad Wimbley - 10 car, 62 yards, 2 TD, long 20; 6 rec, 56 yards, long 20 HB Damien Thigpen - 5 car, 41 yards, long 12
    WR Der'rikk Thompson - 12 rec, 151 yards, 3 TD, long 26 WR Devin Lucien - 3 rec, 84 yards, TD, long 37
WR Keenan Holman - 5 rec, 88 yards, long 36 WR Devin Fuller - 3 rec, 59 yards, long 27
WR Jeremy Johnson - 6 rec, 69 yards, long 15 CB Ishmael Adams - 4 tack, INT

    TCU - 38
    Arizona - 20

It was a rough start to the game for TCU, as Arizona walked up the field on their first drive, capping it with a 38 yard touchdown by Zona QB Javelle Allen. TCU responded however, going on a long drive of their own and evening it at seven with a four yard scamper from Wymon James. After getting a stop, TCU was unable to get going after a beautiful coffin corner punt pinned them at the one and were forced to give the ball back to Arizona, who then proceeded to take no time to score with Kadeem Carey plowing over a safety on his way to a 52 yard touchdown to give the Wildcats a 14-7 advantage in the early second quarter.

Then things got bad for Arizona. TCU evened it up at 14 when Aaron Green somehow managed to stay on his feet after a hit in the backfield and get in the endzone from four yards out. TCU followed that with a defensive stop and drove down the field to hit a field goal as time expired in the first half. TCU kept the momentum going, driving down the field on their first drive of the third quarter and grabbing a 24-14 lead when Ja'Juan Story snagged a 17 yard pass for a touchdown. After getting the ball back it was another scoring drive, this time Casey Pachall took matters into his own hands, punching it in from 5 yards out to give TCU a 31-14 lead going into the fourth. In the fourth, TCU got their insurance score when Pachall hit tight end Stephen Bryant off of play action for a 24 yards score.

Arizona would get one more touchdown by Garlic Wharton, but they would ultimately fall 38-20

GG Kapono, I thought you were gonna run for 400 after the first quarter.

    Stats

    TCU
    Casey Pachall - 22/28, 283 yds, 2 TD/0 INT; 9 carries, 52 yds, TD
Wymon James - 20 carries, 111 yards, TD
    Bradon Carter - 4 rec, 84 yds
    Ja'Juan Story - 8 rec, 76 yds, TD

    Arizona
    Javelle Allen - 7/12, 105 yds, 1 TD/1 INT; 6 carries, 25 yds, TD
Kadeem Carey - 16 carries, 152 yds, TD

Mountaineers capitalize on early mistakes to take down #7 OK State

The Cowboys got the ball first and Chelf immediately threw a pick 6. The OK State offense followed with a 3 and out. West Virginia went to the air and scored on an 8 yard screen pass to extend the early lead to 14-0. Chelf came back and threw his second INT of the quarter to give it back to WVU. The Mountaineers capitalized again, this time with a 1 yard TD pass from Childress to White for a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter. OK State would finally put together a drive, but would have to settle for a 33 yard FG. Childress, looking to get the route on made a bad read and threw an INT deep in his own territory. Chelf finally seemed to come into his own with a quick TD to cut the lead to 21-10. On the heels of a long pass play, Childress would once again make a bad read, this time throwing an INT inside the 10 yard line. Chelf would manage a great drive and the Cowboys would cash in with a 1 yard TD run to get within 4 at 21-17. With less than a minute to go, WVU would stay conservative, but great blocking on a swing pass to Buie let him loose for a 41 yard gain. Three plays later WVU closed out the half with another TD to extend their lead to 28-17.

WVU got it first after the break Childress would engineer an excellent drive, culminating in an 18 yard score on the mid screen to put the Mouintaneers out in front 35-17. After a Cowboys punt it looked like this game was on the brink of getting blown open, but a fumble on the very next play gave the Cowboys a short field. Chelf would hit Stewart for a short TD to cut the lead back to 11 at the end of the third, 35-24. Childress showed great poise with another solid drive, scoring himself on a 17 yard read option keeper for a 42-24 lead. Chelf worked fast and got a 41 yard TD pass to get it back down to 11. After a failed onsides attempt the Cowboys D finally came up big. On a fourth and 2 at the limit of FG range with a strong wind in their face, WVU elected to go for it, but the Cowboys shut down the quick pass to get their offense back on the field. Unfortunately for OSU, an incompletion on fourth down would erase their bid for a late comeback and WVU would walk away with their 4th straight win or a top 25 team to start the year.
