UVA Glides Past Struggling Blue Devils This game went exactly as planned for the newly #3 ranked Cavaliers. Their jump in the polls this past week didn't get in the way of their focus and preparation as they were able to win against Duke in exactly the way they hoped to. One the first possession, QB David Watford carried the ball twice, the first was a 23 yard burst, and the second was a 53 yard homerun TD. This opening possession set the stage for the rest of the game. The Cavalier defense would not be outdone, holding Duke to less than 100 yards in the first half; At one point in the second quarter they were giving up 1 yard per play. Heisman candidate HB Kevin Parks had a modest day, with 23 ATT for 118 yds, but he did cash in on 3 TD carries. No other stat lines jumped out at the end of this one, just a solid all-around win.
Down Goes #1 12th Man Claims Another Victim College Station, TX - Auburn came in as the hottest team in the country. Texas A&M came is as a team with a lot of question marks. After benching 7 defensive starters 2 weeks ago and getting an ugly win at Ole Miss, most assumed that Auburn would smash its way through the A&M defense. On the other side, could the A&M offense continue to put up video game numbers against a highly rated defense? A back and forth first half saw Auburn fight to a 17-14 lead into the locker room. A&M came out in the third and thanks to a HUGE 4th down play by Mike Evans to extend a drive, the Aggies were able to tack on a FG to tie things at 17. Auburn would respond with a FG of their own, and go up 20-17 as the 3rd quarter ended. Johnny Manziel and Ben Malena then led a quick scoring drive to make it 24-20 with 5 minutes left in the game. Naturally, Nick Marshall led a 11 play drive that went 75 yards on all runs and scored with 3 minutes remaining to take a 27-24 lead. Malena then put the team on his back yet again, and ground his way up the field in quick fashion. Once the Aggies got within the 15 yard line with just under 2 minutes left they slowed things down. Shockingly enough the Auburn Tigers decided not to take any timeouts. with 24 seconds left in the game, Ben Malena went in untouched for a score that put the Aggies up 31-27. Auburn's attempt to move the ball down the field was futile as the aTm defense finally stood up and made stops. With this win, A&M moves to 4-0 in the SEC and to 5-2 overall and a clear shot at an SEC west title. LSU will certainly have something to say about that though. In the meantime, the Aggies will revel in this win over a highly ranked opponent.
The Razorbacks with a major upset on the road against the mighty Crimson Tide 30-24 -Arkansas came into this game hurting from a tough lose to South Carolina and did not have very high hopes that they could go into Tuscaloosa and beat the very talented Tide. They had a pretty good game plan but, knew they needed to execute almost perfect to get the win. That's pretty much what happened. Alabama got up 14-3 and they seemed like they would just run over the Razorbacks all day. Arkansas had a nice drive and faced a key 4th and inches inside the Bama 5. Kick the FG and risking going down 17 or 21 to 6. Go for it and close the gap. They took the chance and went for it. They scored and cut the lead to 14-10. They held Bama to a FG to close the half and went into half time down 17-10. The Hogs had the opening KO and began it with a TD drive that would be the beginning of a dominant second half for the Razorbacks. They tied it 17-17 then kicked a FG at the end of the Third to take a 20-17 lead into the 4th. They took at 27-17 lead after a Brandon Allen TD pass. A little later kicked a FG to make it 30-17 with 1:50 remaining. They played it a little too safe when they got down inside the 5 and should have just tried to score a TD. Instead they ran the clock but, settled for a FG. This gave the Tide a little too much hope. Bama went down and scored a TD to cut the lead to 6 with 1:05 left. If they got the onside kick it would be plenty of time to score even though they were out of time outs. Arkansas did a great job and recovering the onside kick and took three knee's and ended the game. The keys to the game. -Arkansas won the turnover battle 1-0 -Arkansas got the run game going and that helped. -The Hog defense finally stepped up in the second half. Key players 1. RB Alex Collins had 20 carries for 128 yards and 1 TD 2. QB Brandon Allen was 10-14 for 189 yards, 1 TD and 0 int's 3. CB D. McKinney had a huge int and some pass break ups. Next up for the Hogs is a bye week. I had some high lights and the game froze when the fifth one was downloading. Good game hornfaninbama
I am getting really tired of the game at this point. CPU QB 18/19 250 yards and 3 tds and we lose in OT...Miracle plays down the stretch for Florida including a crazy pick by a DT dropping deep middle on a play that is simply impossible to make.. Fuck.
I hear you. After my loss to SMU like that I almost threw my controller through the screen. After a few days though, i said EFF it, and decided i'd try my best to have a good time with this group. Sure, I have won all my games since, but they have all been close and the CPU has cheated many times! Anyway, I am rambling. I have found a way to move on from the CPU crap, and just enjoy things. That said...I am totally aware that I will lose a game to some 'ol bullshit here down the line! Not saying you should think one way or another, just that I feel your pain!
Rocky Top Goes Down 'Bama Wins 63-28 Tuscaloosa, AL- The Third Saturday in October has been a marquee matchup for Alabama and Tennessee for more than 100 years. This year's game was a blowout of historical proportions in the series. AJ McCarron was yanked early in the second after throwing his 4th interception of the game, and 2nd in the endzone. He finished his day 7/16 for 193 yards 2 TD's and 4 interceptions. Blake Sims came into the game and played as well as could be expected. He went 14/21 for 265 yards and 4 TD's with no interceptions. Adding to the offensive woes on the day was an injury to TJ Yeldon who carried only 3 times before being concussed and forced to miss the rest of the game. Kenyan Drake was able to pick up the slack however and carried 19 times for 129 yards and 2 scores and also scored on a 44 yard screen pass. Kenny Bell had an excellent game catching every ball thrown his way and ended the day with 7 grabs for 155 yards and 1 score. Amari Cooper caught 4 passes for 72 yards and 1 score and DeAndrew White caught 5 for 86 and 2 TD's and Christon Jones caught 2 passes for 85 yards and 1 61 yard score. Tennessee got off to a rocking start taking a 14-0 lead, a 21-7 lead and a 28-14 lead. Unfortunately for the Vols after their 4th TD the Tide scored the final 49 points.
#19 Baylor Gets Victory over Oklahoma Behind Solid Performance Baylor used its bye week to bounce back after the loss on the road to Kansas with a strong showing at home in Waco vs perennial Big 12 power Oklahoma. It seemed as if a combination of strong defensive play from Baylor as well as a sub-par offensive day from Oklahoma QB Trevor Knight (2/4 for 54 yards 1 TD/1INT) really helped Baylor to separate itself from the Sooners as they won this won walking away 35-10. Lache and Bryce Petty we're on point. Seastrunk had 198 yards and 2 TDs, while Petty went 10/14 with 2 Tds as well as one on the ground. Good Game publik drunk , seems like you just couldn't get your offense going.
Alabama Knocks Off LSU Tide Wins Big 30-10 Tuscaloosa, AL- A rivalry game between LSU and Alabama is always a good time, and this year's game didn't disappoint. The Bayou Bengals traipsed into T-Town and went home with their tail between their legs. Alabama's defense played excellent and shut down most of what LSU wanted to do. LSU carried the ball 26 times for 75 yards, a 2.9 ypc average, but Alabama kept the ball moving down the field on the shoulders of TJ Yeldon. Yeldon carried 19 times for 137 yards, and Kenyan Drake needed just 8 carries to gain a total of 103 yards. AJ McCarron started off on a cold streak and was 3/5 with 2 endzone picks early in the 4th. He turned it around after that and finished 18/24 for 274 yards and 1 TD. DeAndrew White caught the lone TD pass on a 20 yard scamper after a short completion. Alabama took a 24-3 lead early in the 4th, after Cade Foster kicked his first FG of the game from 23 yards out. LSU didn't score a TD until the Tide backups came on, and it took an exceptional play from WR Travin Dural to score from 44 yards out. LSU totalled only 304 yards of offense, and the majority came late in the second half. Alabama held LSU to 38 yards in the first quarter, and less than 125 at half.
Baylor Takes Tech to Task #15 Baylor 41 Texas Tech 20 Baylor beat up on Tech in this neutral site game (apparently the Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Shootout?). The real thing to take away from this game was that Baylor could win without Lache Seastrunk as he went down 4 plays in with a concussion. Backup running back Glasco Martin ,who has provided the thunder to Lache's Lightning, took over the game bowling through defenders consistently and finished the day with 140 yards and 3 TDs on 24 Carries. The defense got in on the action as well with two pick sixes. Bryce Petty was 21-29 for 274 yards with 0 touchdowns and 1 Int. Baylor executed well all day evidenced by thier 8-10 3rd down percentage. A solid momentum building showing coming off the win vs Oklahoma and headed into the final stretch where we go on the road to Stillwater, then on the road against our biggest rival TCU and finally back home against a resurgent Texas Squad.
45 UVA Navy 13 Navy traveled down to Charlottesville to face the #1 ranked Cavs, and the modest 4-4 Midshipmen had a tough time on both sides of the ball. Although they moved the ball well on the ground at times, rushing for over 200 yards, they were not able to get into the endzone except for one homerun 64 yarder TD pass in the 2nd quarter. UVA coach Powers had this to say about Navy "Anytime you see that flex bone offense, any team can win. It's so different from any other offense out there that you really need to prepare differently. It's the great equalizer." Navy's defense had a tough time as well, UVA had a balanced attack that was very efficient. Even when they didn't score they moved the ball and gave Navy a full field to work with. The first quarter went as planned for UVA as they were able to score on the opening possession of the game on a 31 yard TD pass to WR Darius Jennings. After shutting down Navy's offense, they were able to return a punt for a TD. Great special teams play was a theme for the Cavs throughout the whole game. The second quarter was a bit slower to start, but there was an explosion of scoring in the last two minutes, including Navy's lone TD pass. The second half was all UVA as they held Navy to only 3 more points and ran the ball effectively to kill the clock. HB Kevin Parks was able to keep his Heisman campaign going with 3 TDs, although his yardage in this game was well below average. Navy's rushing game went well, but there were some problems in the passing game. They were only able to pass for 77 yards and they threw 2 INTs, one of which was returned for a TD. The numbers for UVA were modest compared to their season averages, but much of the field was covered in the return game. GG -Cougars- Best of luck the rest of the way
Auburns lousy passing QB goes 19-19 after an 18-19 performance by the Florida qb against us last week. His one missed pass was on the two point coversion to tie the game. We then ground out a couple first downs and won a huge game over the Tigers 28-26.
#15 Clemson: 24 #5 Notre Dame: 27 FINAL Really had a defensive battle that heated up in the 4th quarter. Was leading 24-13 entering the fourth and Clemson was able to keep it close and make it a game. Last week we clinched the ACC Atlantic Division so this game was meaningless for conference positioning, but obviously you want to win them all. The Irish improve to 10-1 before playing Oklahoma in the finale. Coach publik drunk and Coach Irish go way back so a rivalry will be renewed! CYA in the CCG Austin1990 , it's going to be an epic matchup!
Baylor Survives in Stillwater in 3 Overtimes #12 Baylor 60 Oklahoma St 58 Oh man, where to even start with this game. It was a fun one but a little too much CPU trickery for my taste. A shootout for sure, Baylor used its powerful rushing attack , while Oklahoma State's QB started the game 16-16. Lache was dominating, knocking off runs of 7-10 yards every time he touched the ball. Bryce was putting it in great spots. Essentially every score by Baylor was responded to by Oklahoma State in kind, defense was nowhere to be found. Towards the end of regulation, up by 14 with about 3 minutes left we thought we had the game in hand. Even if we let them score we would just run out the clock. The Cowboys had other plans as they drove down the field and scored with 1:15 left to bring it within 7. Kick a perfect onside kick that bounced off my hands team and was recovered by OSU. They then drive down the field again to tie it up with 34 seconds left. I'm still not panicked, I know I can throw the deep ball and as long as I throw away from Justin Gilbert I trust my wide outs to make plays. They kick off ... touchback... 10 yard pass, out of bounds clock stops... 20 yard pass...no huddle....come to the line...snap the ball. My WR is open across the middle deep on a post right in FG range.... Petty Hits him perfectly in stride, he catches it!! ....makes a move....fumbles right at about the 35...recovered by OSU with 01 left...we go to overtime. I am convinced that I will lose this game come hell or high water at this point. Overtime starts with Baylor on defense. OSU scores on the first play in overtime with a wide open fly route. I'm not panicked, they haven't really been able to stop me all day either just hand it to Lache and let him do what he do. Wait whats that?!?!? Lache is nowhere to be found??!? Not injured, but not in the game either and nobody has a clue why?!?! FUCK..full panic on the Baylor sideline, but back up halfback Glasco Martin comes to Coach Bucs and says "Chill coach, I got you." Martin comes in and runs it down the throat of the defense, punishing defenders for 6 plays and finds the endzone. Overtime #2 coming up. Same formula, hand it off , no mistakes. Unfortunately we wind up in 3rd and long, QB Bryce Petty comes up big and finds his wideout to get the first down and keep the game going. 2 plays later Martin punches it in from a yard out. Now OSU comes out and continues to shred our defense, they find the endzone in 4 plays. Overtime #3 .... no more field goals.. Oklahoma State comes out with the ball and after we force a 3rd down they find the endzone from 13 yards out. They have to go for two though... They come out in the shotgun as usual, we're in nickel 2-4-5... Ball is snapped , OSU QB is looking for his man to the left on a curl route he throws it and... its knocked down ...its knocked down..Pure elation from the Baylor sideline, the crowd is deflated.. Now Baylor comes out with the ball score and get the two point conversion and we win. We hand it off to Martin for about 6 yards.... hand it off again, loss of 4....attempt a pass its batted down... looking at 4th and 8. Gotta go for it. Petty takes the snap out of the shotgun pressure is coming .... Petty fires it across the middle........ CAUGHT at the 2 yard line!...first and goal Baylor. Martin pounds it in for his 3rd TD of overtime on the next play...now comes the 2 point conversion. We've been pounding it down their throat all day so we decide to hit them with the toss, we know Martin doesn't have the speed to get to the perimeter like Lache does but he's got the hot hand, Lache is MIA and we trust him. Goal line toss coming up for Baylor, OSU is in the 5-3-3 Goal Line defense. We hike the ball...tossed to Martin, the WR is holding is block, Martin cuts inside of the WR , a defensive end is behind him though.. he hops on Martin's back as he goes by, but Martin is too strong and carries him into the endzone for the score and the WIN. Baylor wins it 60-58 in 3 overtimes! Martin is an instant campus legend. Great victory, but no time for rest as we have arch rival TCU next week followed by Texas the following week. TL;DR Baylor overcomes cpu non-sense, Lache Seastrunk goes awol...they win anyway but it takes 3 overtimes.
aTm 43 LSU 51 CPU nonsense ruled the day in Baton Rouge. Mettenberger Robos his way to 300 and 5 TDs, Jeremy hill had 175 yards rushing in the first half and we were down 38-14 at the break. Broke out the Wheels Off-Offense and got within possession, but Mettenberger found their 14th WR and he trucked like 6 dudes on his way to the 4 yard line. LSU kicked a FG and destroyed all hope for the Aggies. LSU picked off 3 of Manziel's first 10 passes, and a 4th later on. What a great display of defense and offense for the 6-4 tigers! Its not whether you win or lose, it's how you lose...but fuck it! With a win over Mizzou, the Aggies can still reach the SEC title game and hopefully play BRUCE80 's team so neither of us will have to rely on the CPU's infinite ability to know what plays we pick. Shit is like Tecmo Bowl, just pick the offense's play, and shut it down. Anyway! On to Mizzou!
Florida State - 21 Florida - 28 Nole's cant survive the Swamp. Baptism by fire for me and these sliders. I don't blame the sliders for the L just some ill-advised passes at the wrong time. FSU was in control of the game late but a pick set up Florida in FSU territory down 7. 4th and a mile and Florida hits the long pass as my CB forgets to jump. So 21-21 with about 2 minutes to play and another pick. UF punches it in. Still time to tie. But yet another pick seals the deal. In all, I threw 4 picks on the day. Live and learn.
My summary for the week is I quit. The game is just to frustrating to play. Even in wins there is just no realism. The CPU is just ridiculous. If every game was against a human I would be all in. Playing the CPU is just no fun at all. Good luck in the league guys.
Why not stick out the commitment and help with season 2 sliders? I know fresh off a loss anyone would be steam, but come on man.
You had to throw out the word commitment. lol gonna make me feel guilty. All that needs to be done with the sliders is lower CPU run block and CPU pass accuracy. IMO. It's not just the sliders. It's the game itself. It's just a very frustrating game on Heisman. The CPU just cheats. It's just too stressful to play. Also they have so overpowered read option stuff and inside runs out of the shot gun and pistol I don't think anyone who wants to run pro style has a chance. It's so easy to get 5 yards or more for those read option shot gun play styles.
I have a suggestion but it may not be popular among some of you. Why don't we lower the sliders, put CPU offense on All American, and basically accept that we should beat the CPU when we do that and focus this league on what a league should be about: playing each other. Maximize user out of conference games, play each other as much as possible and accept that at the end of the year our only losses will be to one another on those sliders. The CPU isn't going to recruit well anyway. I've been playing for a while and it may be impossible to balance that line between challenging and unplayable for everybody in a league of 12 people. So let's bring it down a bit and focus on playing each other. Honestly I'm fine with whatever. I've managed to make it fine on these sliders but I'd rather keep guys in the league at this point. Were down to the last few and there's only a handful left for a reason: the game can be rough sometimes; especially when playing the CPUs robo QB.
Not trying to make you feel any certain way. Just believe sticking it out through the short season remaining, being a key part in helping create the season 2 version of sliders, and overall honoring your commitment would be the best for both parties involved. You could be right. It's supposed to be challenging, which will frustrate users at times. The CPU does cheat, but they're also very beatable. Even with the sliders we currently have and a very weak team, it can be done. I promise. It's statements like these that make me think you still need to just let the emotions cool man. You're frustrated, I get it. You could make this statement about any release of NCAA. "X, Y, & Z are overpowered, this makes schemes that don't feature X/Y/Z ones nobody will use. It's so easy to get 5 or more yards with X, Y, & Z." I think you're a great member and do not want you to leave. If that is your choice, I cannot stop you. But let's call a spade a spade. This NCAA is just like any NCAA; it has its flaws and can be frustrating at times, especially on Heisman. If your personal frustrations with the game don't make it fun enough anymore for you to have the desire to stay committed to this group, I'd sadly advise you to stick with your decision. I say stick it out and give it one more season. Be a part of the slider production, and if after season 2 you're still not satisfied walk. I believe the effort would be worth the payoff. I personally am in the camp that finds this line of thinking vastly unpopular. I think a slightly competitive CPU, even if it can be frustrating/unrealistic/insert videogame compaints/etc., when sliders make CPU games "collecting" wins that fucking sucks. I'd rather put a little effort into figuring out the CPU, improving as a player, and finding ways to make the challenge fun then play patty-cake with the CPU for 6-7 games a season.
