    2013 Heisman Memorial Trophy Race

QB - Garrett Gilbert - Texas:

    Next Game: vs TCU

The senior comes into this season after having a stellar season last year for the Longhorns. He broke school records in passing TDs and passing yards. He lost his favorite targets in Dan Buckner and Desean Hales, so he has his hands full with putting up the same numbers as last year. His first test is a favorable match up against TCU, but it remains to be seen how his receivers this year will perform.

WR - Eugene Alexander - Alabama:

    Next Game: vs NC State

The sensational sophmore had a huge season last year as a freshman in putting up solid numbers. He is not only a threat receiving but returning kicks as well. Alexander has proven he can produce against the solid competition in the SEC, but it remains to be seen if he can sustain his effort all season. With a year of getting better under his belt, look for him to have another break out season on special teams. The Tide are replacing their QB Jackson, so he may have trouble getting the ball on offense depending on their QB situation. It also doesnt help to have his fellow teammate and WR Kendall Kelly in the race. This first game against NC State will give some answers.

WR - Doug Castillo - LSU:

    Next Game: @ Arizona

Castillo is back after having a huge season in the early stages of last season. The senior then fell off the map sort of speak and his production did so as well. Castillo looked like the favorite for the award after his couple of games but didnt keep up the production. He is in the race as we speak, but the Tigers feature a question mark at the QB position. This first game will be a test of how the Tigers can keep Castillo involved if his QB is able to find him. The Tigers are bringing back their star HB, so that may limit Castillo touches.

WR - Kendall Kelly - Alabama:

    Next Game: @ Arizona

Another Tide receiver is in the race this year with senior Kelly coming in after a solid season and championship. This shows you just how good Alabama's passing attack was. Kelly features the same questions Alexander does. Just how will the QB situation in Tusculoosa pan out? Whom ever the QB will be, he will have two great targets to hit to eat up defenses. Depending on how teams defend the Tide this season, one or the other will put up numbers. Look for Kelly to stay in the race for the long run.

HB - Vincent Smith - Michigan:

    Next Game: BYE

Smith is coming after decent year for the Wolverines. He didn't put up major numbers, but he did score 12 times and was just shy of breaking the 1,000-yard mark. The shifty back will have a tough time putting up these same yards, since their stellar WR Stokes left this year. Teams will be able to load up the box on Michigan this season. We will need to see how the receivers can perform and how well the o-line can block for him. I don't anticipate Smith staying in the race with the host of star RB's in the country.

I think we might be looking at a two man race between Gilbert and Alexander
