Texas Gives the Bulldogs the Mike Vick Treatment
Longhorn starting defense and second unit defense dominated the bulldogs. The only points for the bulldogs were a 92 yard fumble return on a redzone fumble. After a slow start the Longhorn offense looked sharp. HB Whaley went for 149 and 2 TD on 15 touches, QB Wood connected on 13-17 passes for 305 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT, WR Mike Davis pulled in 6 catches for 166 yards and 3 TD. Great start to the season for the Longhorns.
Coach Mexi on his week 1 match-up against a Fresno St team that snubbed them out of the national championship game a year ago - "We will not hold back."
Just dont go over 70! Its my pet peeve...ask the guys in H4Y!
On Nov. 13 this year, Wisconsin put up 83 on Indiana. It would actually be realistic for Mexi to hit that number haha
Defense will take care of the shutout, so ill put up 69.
Mexi, be nice to the mid majors.
It's not like they cost you the national title or anything
come on... its not like he was held out of the national title game when another one loss team that he had beaten got in.
Wisconsin gets its vengeance against Fresno St. The fans booed the Bulldogs as they entered the field, the team that kept the Badgers out of the title game. New starting QB Budymar started the scoring with a TD pass to Robinson. White also added 2 more TDs. The defense then took over the game. They accounted for 3 sacks, one fumble that ended a scoring chance for Fresno, and 2 interceptions, both which were returned for TDs. "This was a good win for us. It puts the past behind us in week one, and now we can focus on this season" - Coach Mexi.
#4 Wisconsin 35 - Fresno St 0
#14 Oregon State 31
North Carolina 17
The Beavers used a strong defensive performance in the second half to pull away from the stingy Tar Heels in Chapel Hill. Oregon State for most of the first half played very sluggish, and was getting dominated by the Tar Heels. Down seven points in the second quarter, the Beavers got on the board when UNC's return man got hammered by a Beaver's special teamer fumbling the ball and Mark Williams picked it up and ran in for the game tying score. However, the Tar Heels would respond with a touchdown of their own making the score 14-7. Then with less then a minute remaining in the second quarter Sean Mannion hit Michael Houston for a 72 yard TD strike evening the score. However, the Tar Heels would finish the half a field goal.
In the second half the Beavers Defense clamped down, and the Beavers rushing attack took over. RB Malcolm Marable broke off a 73 yard TD run to open the second half giving the Beavers the lead, the Beavers would add ten more points in the fourth quarter to win 31-17
#22 Arkansas 24
#21 Texas A&M 27
On a first week full of revenge throughout the country and in particular the Night Owls, Texas A&M exacted some of their own from last season's bitter early season defeat to the Razorbacks. The credit can go to the kicking game, as Freshman Willie Higgins booted the first and last points through for the Aggies, including the game winner with a minute left. "It's nice to come through for the team" said Higgins, "I was feeling some pressure before the game because of all the duties they have for me, but actually, I was so busy that it didn't give me a whole lot of time to think about it. I think I was warmed up for that last one!" Higgins is handling the kicking and punting game duties, and went 2 for 3 in the field goal department.
The Defense held on, but all game felt like they were really young, which indeed they are. Former Wr Brandon Mitchell was running the qb spot for Arkansas, and did a fairly decent job, completing 17-40 for 260 yards and 3 touchdowns. The problem came when the Aggies got pressure, because the pocket presence of Mitchell was making him very erratic. Also he fumbled once, leading to a touchdown for the Aggies. Coach Davis on containing Mitchell: "If we play like that against a true qb, we're in trouble. He shredded us a times."
The Offense saw 7 different players carry the rock for a combined total of 130+, featured by the performance of Mister Jones, who had 62 yards on 18 carries, including 2 tds. Freshman qb Alfred Howell made enough plays to win, even though he missed some open wrs.
@Ohio State starts their 2013 season off with a bang as they slaughter a good Florida State team. Ohio State scored 56 straight points as FSU had no answer for the OSU offense or defense. OSU RB Michael Chapman picked up where he left of last year as he ran for 136 yards on 17 carries and 2 tds. Starting RB Jaamal Berry was hurt early in the first quarter and will miss the next month. OSU QB Kenny Guiton had a great day as well as he completed 12 out of 16 passes for 188 yards and 4 TDs.
Next week is a big test for the Buckeyes as they travel to Austin to take on the #3 Texas Longhorns. Last year the Longhorns were able to come into Columbus and steal a victory, This year Ohio State hopes to return the favor.
#12 Tennessee - 28
#17 UCLA - 56
This game kind of surprised me a bit with how lopsided it was. UCLA was up 42-0 at one point early in the third quarter. From that point on the 2nd string offense and defense took over. The Bruins, with several new starters and new Offensive Coordinator, showed what they can do in the first half. UCLA ran the ball up and down the field against the 12th ranked Vols, putting up just a shade under 300 yards on the ground. (RS) Senior Landers beat out a couple of Freshman for the starting spot, played flawless, hitting on 9 of 10 passes for over 200 yards and 2 TD's.
Next week, the Bruins take the some time off before hitting the road in week three with a trip to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes.
Only the OU/ND game is left. We'll be advancing tonight. Great job getting the games in guys!
Will be getting in my game tonight. I wanted to practice a bit with my new team and find a playbook that I like...especially since I have Wisconsin next week. I will probably be done by 9:30 EST.
Perfect man, thanks!
does wisconsin play Ohio st this year?
No...i think they get Illinois and Iowa. They have you and A&M on there OOC schedule if memory serves me right.
Mizzou - 44
Illini - 20
Mizzou gets sweet revenge for their loss last year in the Insight Bowl. The Tigers came out swinging in the 1st Quarter. HB Kevin Coleman broke loose and scampered 73 yds for the first TD of the season. Mizzou then picked off a pass and put up another 3 pts on a 39 yd FG from Seth Jones. Illinois got on the board late in the 1st Quarter with a FG of their own, but that was quickly forgotten when Kick Returner Jimmie Hunt took the ensuing kick off back 91 yds for another score...
The rest of the game would continue like this... Illinois did play a strong game, but things just didn't seem to go there way today. Coach Jax was very happy with how his team played. "They played inspired football today and we took care of the ball." Key areas that the team is looking to correct this year.
The day did have a downside for the Tigers though... Once again Mizzou walks away from an Arch Rivalry game down a player... Last year it was two players out and this year the Tigers have lost WR Jimmie Hunt for 4 weeks..
QB T. Gabbert - 5/8 127yds 2 TD's
HB K. Coleman - 13 Car 136yds 2 TD's
stupid big ten.
Ole Miss 7
Complete domination as the Ducks lay the smack down on the Rebels. HB Matthew Pope ran for 85 yards and 1 td and QB Bryan Bennett threw 2 td passes and racked up 137 total yards.
OU - 63
Notre Dame - 45
OU trailed 28-0 and 31-7 before making a few adjustments. This late big play allowed them to cut it to 31-14 at the half.
The second half was the Brennan Clay show. He had 3 touchdown runs of 78, 79, and 80 yards. All three came on Power O plays from three different formations and on some he didn't even get touched.
McDonald made another big play in the 2nd half by taking a slant 73 yards.
Allen also had 309 yards and 4 touchdowns on just 17 attempts.
Perfect Storm of Bad in Arch Rivalry
Illini: 3 0 7 10 20
Missouri: 17 6 14 7 44
Coach Cheez knew it was going to be a long day in the House of Paign early. Missouri's first play from scrimmage: a 74 yard touchdown run by Coleman. Illinois' first play from scrimmage: an ill advised pass that was intercepted. Missouri was able to use this early momentum to squash the Illini early, and never let them get into the game.
After only thorwing 11 interceptions during the entire year last season, Forcier started this year with two against the Tigers. Along with his two interceptions, Forcier also had two fumbles - both of which were recovered by Missouri. His other numbers were not bad (18-30, 282 yards, TD), but overall this was a bad day for the first team All Big Ten QB.
The Illini rushing game that was so dominant last season - non existant. This may be due to the fact that Illinois trailed early and tried to let the passing game lead them back, but starter Jon Justice was held to 28 yards on 8 carries. The calls for freshman Renaldo James were heard - but only for one play. He had 9 yards on his only carry of the game.
Next up for the Illini: a trip to Provo to take on #24 BYU. It will take a much better effort on both sides of the ball if Illinois wishes to stand a chance against the Cougars.
