I just wanted to get a thread going, once the game drops we can all post our thoughts on what settings we should play on this season.....
Um... the hardest shit they have basically. I don't care if I shoot 50 over, as long as the best of the best are realistically scoring.
My 2 cents. Here are the only two things I can not stand about "the hardest shit they have basically" - which would be Simulation difficulty. 1) I HATE only having a direction arrow for wind. On a real golf course I can get a MUCH better feel for wind direction AND speed. Even if they offered a "LOW", "MODERATE", or "HIGH" along with the arrow would be much better than just giving me the direction arrow. 2) Being FORCED to hit a draw or fade for almost everything 100 yards and out. I'm all for using draws and fades, sometimes it is a MUST if you are going to hit certain fairways and greens. But being forced to regardless....just reminds me of the nagging caddie from 2 years ago. Other than that I liked the simulation difficulty. I personally have been playing the demo on a custom setting based from Tournament difficulty - I just change the wind display to show speed and Shot Shaping from advanced to normal. Really enjoying those settings. But, I think once the game drops and we all have a week or so to play.....a good health discussion will benefit everyone playing.....
I am right there with you with the whole fade/draw thing.. I really hate the fact you can not hit a straight shot. I know when I play golf I usually want to hit the ball straight even though it never does.. Putting with/ without swing meter/ green grid I can go either way with.
I think the swing comes down to your own pro. You will be able to decide the swing type (how much draw or fade you will need to hit your shots), at least is what I read somewhere else in the forum. But I don't really care, I may have some preferences but I mostly prefer to have a extremely difficult mode where we will see more realistic scores and know that even though you could be having the round of your life you could end up losing everything in the next couple of holes. I agree with the wind, maybe with the full game we will have something different. But again, I wont complain either way. Just wanna play the game and have fun and a competitive game mode.
I think we'll have a better feel after the game drops (Friday can't come soon enough, early access!!!!) and a real discussion can begin. Having been around this Tour since the inception and participated in many heated discussions on settings, I'm almost partial to just putting the settings on Simulation and letting the chips fall where they will. Or maybe a custom setting based off of simulation. I can't express how much the wind thing and the "Advanced" shot shaping irk me I'd love to see more golfers get involved, so where ever that takes us......
I made the same argument last year...this is a site based around "sim", playing on a level that hopefully will equate to realistic scores should be the goal.
If I score worst than I do in a video game over when I play golf in real life something is messed up...
I will play with whatever settings but last year I was in the top 15 or so with the settings we used so I would consider myself to be pretty good, but not as good as some guys..
Are you actually gonna hang around for more than 6 round lol. I actually agree with Shaun. I think you guys should start with this as the game will get easier. And if it is too hard for too many people reconsider. I am really looking towards simulation mode and am super bummed the game will be out for a month before I put my hands on it
your saying theres a chance i get into top 500? ps i like to see scores low my self but i doubt that happen thats my two cents on the settings
Don't think the wind will be that much of an issue. Remember last year we kept it pretty high as it was in of the best defenses against high scores. This year it will make sense to keep it on lower (calm is 2-8,9) which is not that hard to compensate. Handsward has also mentioned you'll be able to judge the wind by the way the arrow moves so I guess it just take some time to get used to
I'll be honest, I'm busy as fuck, but I like Tiger. If I can play in a party with someone it will help (unlike many, video game time is social time for me). Also, I couldn't handle seeing -40 scores. It ruined it for me.
I am with you.. Maybe for each tournament have a scheduling thread so who wants to can play with a group more like real golf!!
Stoked about this. Imagine with all the added difficulty this year if you have to go together in the last round down by one on the last couple of holes
Sounds like an awesome idea! If players don't take 2+ minutes every sngle time to take their shots I wouldn't even mind playing by turns and watch them play, I kinda enjoy it when u have a nice group of people. Back in London with the version 09-10, we used (my flat mates and I) to pull of some all nighters playing the game, drinking and eating. WAS EPIC!
It sounds like to me through the new CC features you can play and chat with up to 25 of your CC members while playing a round......did I hear/read this incorrectly?? PS - After more rounds on the demo last night I'm really leaning towards Simulation mode. I may put up a fight to make it Custom settings; using Simulation but changing the swing mode from advanced to normal.....but, I like the simulation difficulty. I may never shoot a round under par, but it'll be fun.
Some thoughts, slow day at work.....I'm hoping for the answers once the actual game is out, but since I'm thinking about it now, thought I'd jot it down. Does anyone else who's played the demo find the simulation difficulty both fun and puzzling at the same time? It's hard for me to discern yardage, by that, I mean when I'm playing a RL round I at least have yardage markers to rely on......but simulation mode seems to lack even the faintest idea of yardages. I find it very hard to lay up to a yardage since I have no markers......that's frustrating. Maybe I'm missing something. Last night I found myself both enjoying and being confounding by certain things on simulation difficulty.....
I'm game for the hardest settings. The only thing is the arrow with no mph is better than having no arrow. I noticed that a wind of 5mph doesn't cause the arrow to move at all. It will be tough to judge a light wind.
I am fine with the simulation settings with everything except having to swing diagonally all the time..Having to hit a fade/ draw from like 110..Smh...
You are not missing anything. There is no markers. I know I'll be playing some books or at least taking notes on lower settings
