Going to have to, I'll probably be playing my Career on a custom setting between tournament and simulation, so I'll have to take notes as a play. Sounds like too much work for a video game really......but I've been reading on the EA forums a lot today and saw some of your posts there -- and the website someone put on there that give yardages for some of the courses......might use that as much as possible. Last thing I ever thought I'd do in a golf video game is put together my yardage books.......
Yeah bookmark this because I already lost it lol. The ea forums are a pain to navigate on a iPhone Not a big deal for me anyway. I've always kept a book with some notes on how courses play specifically for the ones with big elevation changes
Might have to go to like an Office Depot to get a little notepad and take notes on the courses that we decide to play for the tournament!
I've never needed a book, I could adjust my yardages accordingly based on elevation, wind, lie, etc......the biggest difficulty is going to be trying to lay up to certain yardages.....
Should see real life scores for the good players and a few over for the lesser players..Think I finally had a round on simulation at Royal Birkdale where I went even through three holes...Felt like an accomplishment!!! I have not needed any information to write down either but most likely would for some courses that I am not use to... Augusta I thnk I have played enough to know everything about it..At least in the video game world??
And talking about EA forums, with the way it is setup I won't be able to do any recruiting. If any of you guys have time/desire next week will be good time to bring some new blood to the site
I posted over there last week in the recruiting thread, but plan an refreshing that post sometime next week.....
Yeah down for the toughest settings (Simulation). Im really not all that good but now that Im forcing myself to play it, I'm averaging somewhere near 1+-3+ on the 3 round tourneys. I make some, I miss some but it creates a very real life environment which is what we all are really looking for anyway right? How will the created characters be utilized, if at all, is my only real question..
How will the CAG's be utilized.....??? All tournaments are to be played with your CAG and starting last year we had no sort of cap limits on attributes. You are free to shape your CAG to your play style, how ever that may be. It sounds like there is a lot more decisions to be made as far as developing your CAG especially when playing on the higher settings in this years game.
Right, me being new to the site and all, I had no idea if the CAG's would be limited or even utilized. Playing previous games on lower difficulties have caused me to have to limit my friends golfers overalls but Im sure the higher difficulty should negate any unrealistic scoring. Just wondering, still feeling everything out here!
Yeah, in our first year we had cap limits for attributes. Last year we eliminated those and played on settings that were pretty sick sometimes (think 20-30 MPH winds in almost every tournament). This year I think we'll need every ounce of customization for our CAG's. Even if we don't play on Simulation difficulty, which it sounds like we will be, it would certainly be on a setting somewhere between Tournament and Simulation. I think everyone here is trying to get the most "realistic" experience out of the game as we can.......
I'm down for whatever settings, although I do agree with the wind thing sucking but we can deal with it. As far as shot shaping, I thought I saw somewhere you could set up your golfer as a "Control" golfer, and that would be straight shot, but i could be mistaken. We'll find out soon enough though.
Agreed with what most of you guys are saying.. Not a big fan that you have to shape your shot every shot. Also agree that we need yardage markers on Sim modes.. at least tell me how far a bunker/water hazard is, or the distance to the front of the green or something like that. I'm down with whatever you guys decide.. I think with shot shaping on, swinging on tournament mode is tough enough.. on Sim, it's ridiculously tough. Very sensitive, and if youre just slightly off, then your going into the woods. But I do like a good challenge. I like putting on both Tourney, and Sim... I like the grid with no beads on tourney, but also love having no grids at all on sim. So again, I can play on either mode on that one. Basically, I don't know what I like lol! A mixed bag of everything I guess, lol. Anyways, can't wait till tomorrow. Hope to see some of you guys out there!
We will have them done hopefully by then.. I vote flat out simulation or simulation with normal swing instead of advanced..What do you think Dub-ya I would say flat out simulation... Seems the more active guys are up for just flat out simulation... Also for the guys who have the season ticket please give the people without the season ticket some more input.. I have the season ticket but will be out of town Friday night and Saturday but will be downloading it on Sunday and rocking it on my day off on monday...
I vote starting on straight sim with advanced swing and no green grids. I am not even good and I want that. The sooner you lower the difficulty the sooner it will be 4 of you playing in your own tournaments.
After playing a few rounds, I'm starting to think the best setting for everyone would be tournament mode with no zoom to aim option. simulation is pretty damn tough and I wonder if we might lose some people if we do sim. I would consider myself a pretty good tiger woods golfer and i wasn't breaking par a whole lot on tourney mode, i had some birdies but several bogeys as well, think i ended -1 on the one round I did on tourney, played all the others on sim mode and was anywhere from +3 to +11 a round. granted I think we'll all get better as time goes on but I think we all like birdies and pars more than double and triple bogeys. just my 2 cents. I'll get a few more rounds in tomorrow and see what happens.
haven't played the game. But I like that the first rounds are gonna be way over par! Gonna have to practice a bit but we all gonna get better. For example, dunno if you guys have played WGT.com when I first started playing that game I was way way way over par every time, with some practice I was getting more constant and at the same times my scores were going down. It was a great experience! from being bad (as in real life) to becoming a decent player (but still able to have bad rounds). If I get the same kinda experience with TW 14 I will extremely extremlv happy.
Simulation, but with zoom to aim on, and regular analog strike meter - where it doesn't disappear, is pretty solid. The only reason I say zoom to aim turned on, is just because of the lack of info and yardage the game gives you. And you still have the expert swings and whatnot. Just throwing out a few options that Ive been tweaking with. I'll continue to experiment throughout the weekend, and I'll let you guys know if I have any other ideas. Quick side note.. There's a major glitch in the Early Release that I hope didn't make it to the disc version.... when you go to My Golfer>My Skills, the "Please Wait" box wont always go away. It will sit there no matter how long you wait on it, and it wont let you in the next menu. It wont freeze up or anything, it just sits there doing nothing. I've had to back out to dashboard 4-5 times already and reload the game because of it.
Well, after a year out I am back in for this year and Simulation certainly seems the way to go after 2 years of very low scoring and subsequent lack of interest in shooting -36 for 4 rounds. I agree with what a lot of people have said. Simulation difficulty seems the way forward but the lack of yardage or ability to know just have close that lake is in front of the green, makes it a tad unrealistic. Unless that changes in the full version, a zoom of some sort will probably be required. I've only toyed with the demo a little on simulation, but I am not a fan of having to hit a fade. I assume that one of the options reverts that to a straight/normal swing plane. Surely that's best? Then if people want to fashion out there own fades and draws they can. Just my thoughts gents. Very much looking forward to having more time and enjoying this season ahead. JC
John, when you create your golfer you can pick fade or draw and power vs control. I played a lot on simulation, I found it to be extremely challenging to put and the lack of yardage made the approach Omni difficult. I switched to tournament and had felt like I have been able to Actually be affective with my hole to hole adjustments. I'll go with either or, just found it toughtest to put and gage yardage on simulation. Great discussion guys! I have the full game on early release btw.
Thanks Bob. On the demo I'm constantly hitting a fade (diagonal swing). So on simulation mode we can just have a regular straight swing meter, that is determined by our golfer setup?
