There is no way I can play on advance shot shaping setting. I can't hit the diagonal shots with the LS.

My first round I played on Simulation with shot shaping changed to normal and shot -1. I had 8 pars, 1 eagle(chipped in) and the rest were birdies and bogeys(a few double bogeys).

Looks like you either play a draw or fade. Now understand you can still hit a straight shot manually, just your guided outline is draw or fade default. Granted, I've only played tournament and simulation modes so some others may have different options.

I've not seen the option to hit a straight shot that's one of the main reasons I don't like it.

Right but if you do hit it straight using the fade/draw guidelines, the ball still goes straight.

Whichever difficulty we go with, I would just like to see the green grid set to no beads. With the grid off, it's just too tough to see the angles on 360. Maybe it's better on ps3 but the 360 doesn't allow enough lighting resolution to give the ground texture enough variances Imo. I actually like the shot shaping on advanced, feels like my consistency is the overall factor in making or missing shots, and that's what I'm really excited about.

Here is where I stand on settings.

    1) Having the wind meter not show the wind seems unrealistic. The problem is, they don't have anything showing intensity in another way. Just doesn't seem realistic.

    2) The diagonal shot (fade/draw) makes zero sense to me so far. I don't really get how this is any different/more difficult then just shooting a shot up and down.

Finally just shot my first round under par on full 100% Simulation. Granted it was only -1 and at Royal Birkdale. Not much to brag about there. Baby steps. The diagonal swing is the biggest obstacle for me. It's driving me nuts. I was pretty good with it back in the day, on the early 2000's games, now, I cant go forward diagonally on my downswing for the life of me. To me, it feels like I'm going diagonal, but the meter shows me going straight forward... next thing I know, i'm in the woods or water. One bad swing will derail an entire round this year. There's probably a couple sleeves of balls at the bottom of the creeks and ponds at Muirfield Village if anybody wants to go for a dive.

Speaking of Muirfield, it is NIIIIICE!! Could become one of my favorite courses to play. So is Oak Hill. Havent tried TPC Louisiana or Mission Hills yet.

Oak Hill is amazing!!! Those trees are so close to the fairways you have to thread those shots through little gaps. I still can't hit the diagonal shots worth a damn.

I've just been doing career mode. That seems to work the best. I've also played a couple of online matches. But anytime you use your CAG, you're going to get XP. I've got it set on Sim mode to help train me for our tour, and it's kicking my ass lol. Can't get past the Web.com tour for nothing. I usually shoot +4, +5 or so, and I'm 70th on the money list with 2 tournaments to go. Looks like I'll be stuck there for a while longer.

Yeah I've played a few of the first rounds. I'm usually 10+ par on simulation with green grid on no beads. It's fun but it's been brutal haha.

Please everyone vote in the settings poll so we can get a visualization of the settings. Hope we can have a definite gameplay settting on the tour Tuesday or shortly after so everyone can practice on the settings for the tour if they choose.

The bold portion above is absolutely false when playing with shot shaping on advanced. If you try to hit a 12-6 on this setting you will ALWAYS get a mishit, EVERY time.

You have to do decent in the tournament. I had to play it like 5 times to get a top 5 to unlock the rest of the schedule and continue.

Just played my first round with Kelllller :). He did pretty well in general but he was having a great front 9 (-2 at some point), I think he 1 or 2 over par at the of it but his back was bad (40). Anyways just wanted to share my opinion in some of the gameplay topics.

We played the full simulation live tournament.

    1) Swinging aint extremely difficult but aint easy either. I was playing with my shitty player, and apart from having an horrible front 9 (+10) I somehow kinda started to get the feeling for the game in the following holes to the point where I was having only par and some birdies. I am fading, and yes even though it shows your swing plan as fade or draw, you can actually hit straight if you want to if you are not too far away from the flag (90meters away I will say). Plus you can also change your stance a bit to make it a bit straighter. To be honest I had no troubles just with the normal setting, of course I was missing some fairways and stuff like that, but I like! Its realistic. A quick tip, for those who have no idea you can actually practice your swing by pressing the left stick. I am pretty sure if you spend a good 15 minutes with it you will be more constant (often I thought I was doing it right, but after at doing that practice and observing my fingers I've noticed how wrong i was).

BTW, someone said that what happens between your back and s swing doesnt really affect the end result of your shot. Yes, its true. Unless you really had aa horrible swing your shot would be (not saying perfect) OK. But you gotta be close to the swing path in the end and beginning of it. Final thoughts regarding the tour: Leave it as its (I actually asked Keller if he was having too many problems with it, and he said that it was ok for him).

    2) Zoom: Well it makes harder but also more challenging and tactical. Aint about just standing there and flipping the sticks anymore (I appreciate that), now you are gonna have to check out the hole layout and look for some points if you need some help n where to aim at before going for your shot. I am also using the FLYBY option for most of the holes, its really nice and helpful to play smarter shots (half of the game is about planning your shots for the best results possible, IMO). Final thoughts regarding the tour: Leave it as its.

    3) View of the ball from the rough: I really dont know the name for it. But its that red dot that shows where is the face of the club gonna hit it and that after moving the stick goes away. Well I love it! It makes being in the rough an actual challenge (final I get some stress knowing that I gotta play from the rough). Final thoughts regarding the tour: Leave it as its.

    4) Putting has always been really difficult for me, just as in real life. I really dont know how to put, but this is mostly something that we all gonna have to practice and learn. Its difficult! At first I thought it was because I didnt the have grid, but after checking it out more in depth its just mainly about my putting swing. I keep having those breaks towards of the right side, cause almost about the end of my swing I pull it right. Gonna have to keep practicing, dunno here. Its difficult and frustrating at some points, but I get the same feeling when playing IRL. Final thoughts regarding the tour: Dunno, gotta play more. But in here I wouldnt mind having the grid with no beads for those who really want it as I dont see as biggie.

    5) Wind, I like having just the arrow and its movements. Real players dont know either how strong the winds are. If you actually take your time to learn from your previous shot you will get a feeling for it. If you wanna get a more real feeling for it, just play a couple of rounds with a lower difficulty and try to remember how much the arrow was moving with certain wind speeds. Final thoughts regarding the tour: Leave it as its.

Well thats it, sorry for the long post. Just wanted to give my opinion in some of the gameplay things that we are talking about in here. Game is great! Cant wait to start playing with other people. Contact me if you wanna play some rounds.

While, I'm down with any settings, we may need to take into consideration, people that might not have played Tiger last year. So they might not know that EA brought back the diagonal swing.. they will have a huge learning curve.

A few tips that I've picked up on today that has really helped me out, and has me thinking that I just might be getting a hang of it finally... 1) On the strike meter, if you move the RS and the dot disappears on you, but you need to reset, click L3 and take a practice swing, then when you go back to Address, the dot will be there again. HOWEVER, when playing head to head online, the game doesn't allow you to take practice swings, so this may be an issue for our Matchplay tournament.

    2) The swing is by far the biggest obstacle for me in Simulation. It's incredibly tough to swing with consistancy. I'm a Power/Draw player, but for whatever reason, I hit the Fade much better and i might be making a change. Anyways, I've discovered that you should swing the stick nice and smoothly. Dont swing violently like in the past. That's a recipe for disaster. Nice and smooth.. take a little off of your pace if you need to. You dont need to hit 300+ drives this year. Fairways and Greens. Took me awhile to figure this out, but when I started slowing down my swing a bit, I was still hitting 250-260+, even with the wind in my face. Right now my golfer is at 65 on Power, and a 260+ yd drive is perfect really. You're still set up for a nice approach shot on most of these courses.

    3) Use the Practice Swing like I mentioned above. Especially on putting. Get a nice feel for the tempo of the putt. It will take strokes off of your game.

I'm no expert by any means.. I've been shooting around +4, +5 or so on most rounds. I shot my best round a little while ago.. shot a -7, 65 at Pebble and won the tournament, but followed that up with a +5 at Sawgrass on the very next tournament, lol. I'm not very consistant yet, but I do think I'm improving because of these steps. Get your swing down first, then go for the extra power.
