    Virginia Tech 2013 Recruiting
    Team Needs: Filled

    Scholarships available for use: 19
    Players targeted: 15
    Scholarships offered: 15
    Commits: 14

(Will update as players are signed)
:4stars:ESPN 150 #3 ATH/QB Damien Pettway 6'4" 205 lbs. - Projects well at QB with decent mobility and good throw power, has ideal size and could compete with Clemons for the starting job after a redshirt year
:4stars:ESPN 150 #4 FS Matt Dunn 6'4" 195 lbs. - Punishing tackler that will likely compete for the starting job the second he steps foot on campus.
:4stars:ESPN 150 #6 MLB Jason Swain 5'11" 209 lbs. - Great acceleration and solid tackling and coverage abilities will get Swain on the field sooner rather than later.
:4stars:ESPN 150 #7 SS Bryce Jefferson 6'2" 183 lbs. - Not the fastest kid around, but has great zone coverage skills and is very effective at breaking blocks in the run game.
:4stars:ESPN 150 #9 HB Erik Salyer 6'1" 202 lbs. - A strong running back who has good vision with the ball in his hands. Also very agile for a power back, allowing him to make cuts that most bigger backs couldn't
:4stars:ESPN 150 #10 SS Joey Smith 6'1" 204 lbs. - Big hitter who also possesses top notch zone coverage abilities, will fight with Jefferson for the starting SS position next year.
:4stars:#4 OLB/DE Lance Schroeder 6'2" 251 lbs. - Good size, but a bit slow for a OLB, may take a look at him as a DE in spring practice, as he will enroll early.
:4stars:#20 DE Brian Dotson 6'3" 242 lbs. - Decent at beating his blocker, but has great acceleration combined with a very talented power rush will make him a force to be reckoned with.
:3stars:#9 TE Matt Hopkins 6'5" 249 lbs. - Hopkins is a big body who is an adept blocker, in the receiving game he has decent hands, but gets a great realease off the line and can punish defenders.
:3stars:#14 TE Jamaal Purcell 6'4" 243 lbs. - Not a great pass catcher, but a solid blocker who will redshirt and probably work out as a FB to replace Leonard Pierce.
:3stars:#37 C Tony Fowler - Solid blocker with good acceleration to get to the edge in run blocking.
:3stars:#38 FS Matt Dawson 6'0" 189 lbs. - Dent hitter, but his lack of top end speed will likely keep him off the field during his career
:3stars:#46 C John Blair - Good run blocker, but will need to work on his footwork if he is to see significant playing time.
:3stars:#90 HB Joe Latimer 6'4" 217 lbs. - A huge RB, Latimer may not see much of the field however. His PT is going to be measured by the recruitment of ESPN 150 RB Erik Salyer, who VT holds a narrow lead over Auburn on.

VT Gets #4 OLB in the Nation to Commit In Week 1.

:4stars:OLB Lance Schroeder has committed to VT. He chose the Hokies over Nebraska and Boise State. He has great size at 6'2" and 251 lbs. and has good acceleration as well as being a fundamentally sound tackler who can also lay punishment on runners and Qbs alike.

Yeah, though the more I look at this OLB the more I see him being a great hybrid DE/OLB. Are we setting any weight restrictions for position changes? Wanna make sure before I commit to anything

Hokies set to have big weekend for recruits.

All but three of Virginia Tech's targeted players will be in town this week for a match-up with the Marshall Thundering Herd. This list of prospects includes six players listed in the ESPN 150 Rankings.
