Hokies win big over FCS Midwest 56-0

Virginia Tech kicks off the season right with a huge victory over the FCS Midwest Dragons. New Coach RyanC's newly implemented rushing scheme was put on display as the Hokies ran for 284 yards on 43 carries and added 6 rushing TDs. Keeping in the footsteps of Coach Frank Beamer, the VT special teams played well with Nick Dew returning a punt for a TD and Tony Gregory pulling off a 51 yard return.

When asked about how he felt about his teams performance Coach RyanC said "We played very well today, but this is no reason to get overly excited, there were still some mistakes that we need to correct, our corners could have played better and the o-line missed some crucial blocks, and these are things we will need to correct going forward," he added "I'm proud of this team however, they could have fallen apart after the retirement of Coach Beamer, but they stuck together and bought into the new system and so far it is paying off."

After cruising out to a huge first quarter lead, the Hokies put the passing game to bed for the day and just focused on getting the backups some time on the field as well as showing respect for the opponent.

After replace Coach Timpegoose after he decided to pursue other opportunites, in Coach Gwill's debut Temple falls one yard short of tying the game as OSU hangs on to win. The Buckeyes played lazy all game and almost didnt deserve to win.

COACH'S Coments: I'm not happy with our performance because we didn't give 100% today. We got two quick scores early and then we shut down. To play as bad as we did and still win is a testament to our team. Temple is a young and upcoming team and they gave us all we could handle, I give them a lot of credit. As far as we go, I was disappointed in the O-Line. Giving up 6 sacks is unacceptable. Not being able to run the ball is unacceptable. Giving up almost 500 yards passing will not be tolerated. I put myself to blame as well because I didn't coach too well. All we can do now is put this one in the books, because we have to go to West Virginia and they're going to be looking to make a statement at home. All that's left is to learn from this and move on.

Temple opened the season at home against a very tough OSU squad. Looking just not to get blown out, the owls came out and hung around with the buckeyes coming up ONE YARD SHORT a la Kevin Dyson and the Tennessee Titans in the Super Bowl. All but 3 points were scored in the first half, as Chris Coyer was busy gutting the OSU secondary to the tune of 495 yds passing. The second half was a punting contest between the two teams outside of a field goal and a great goal line stand by the Buckeyes. Temple is looking to make some noise after being a perennial doormat, and with a couple of commits in tow already...they will be making noise in the near future!

West Virgina was able to hold off Iowa in an OT classic seasoner opener. Barry Brunetti the Italian Stalion made his debut as starting QB, replacing Heisman Award winner Geno Smith who graduated last year. Junior WR Ivan McCartney had a huge day catching three TD passes, two of which were 70 yard 4th quarter bombs. 39 fourth quarter points lit up the scoreboard and yet the game could be settled in regulation. The Mountaineers were stymied inside the 5 yardline by the Hawkeyes defense and had to settle for a FG to open up overtime. And after A quick pass to get inside the Mountaineers 10. The Hawkeyes were 1st and goal and 8 yards away from a game winning TD. Then Darin Hill stepped up and recorded his second pick of the game and sealed Iowas fate.
