    UVA Opens 2014 with a 59-10 Blowout

UVA started off this season with a bang, taking down outmatched UMASS in a big win. Their new offense looks to be just as prolific as last year's, but with much more shared responsibility. QB David Watford looked comfortable in his new role, rushing for over 100 yards and throwing for almost 300, on only 15 passing attempts. With the offense running inside, outside and all over the defensive backs had to get involved in stopping the run, and that's when the OC dialed up the pass play and hit them over the top.

The UVA defense also came to play on the day, starting the game off with a pick-6 and then not looking back. Although UMASS's talented QB Doyle looked good to start the game and had 238 yards on the UVA secondary, he was only able to find the endzone once on the day. The UVA defense also forced an interception against the #2 QB Mark Wegzyn.

The key moving forward will be the balance of the UVA offense. They need to force teams to respect the passing game, as well as balance their carries out. Coach Powers "Our offense looked great with the exception of one thing: Kevin Parks did not get the ball enough. We need last year's Heisman runner-up to get his touches. He has developed as a receiver out of the slotback spot this offseason, but he is a runner at heart and he did not get enough rushing touches this game. It is going to be interesting when we play some of the elite talent that fills out our loaded ACC this season."

POG: QB David Watford 13-15 262 YDS 1 TD 17 ATT Rushing 109 YDS 2 TD

AnM Barely escapes Toledo, 35-28. Manziel got sacked 10 times....that's what I get for staying in the pocket and not cheesing...threw 3 picks, and HB Dive/Inside Zone where the only plays that worked...

Lookin forward to getting WORKED by UVA!

A back and forth game with the Clemson Tigers came down to the wire again...What else is new for the Bulldogs it seems every game comes down to the end.

With our passing game struggling mightily which is an understatement we leaned heavy on our top two backs and they delivered big time.

We had to score with a minute left and hold off Clemson on a pass to the back of our endzone as the clock ran out to win 38-34.

Arkansas opens the season with a 41-20 win over BYU

Arkansas struggled most of the year last season but, after getting some much needed playmakers on offense, it seems this year will be better.

They moved the ball well all game. They never had to punt and didn't have any turnovers.

True freshman QB Marcus Hairston had a big first game. He had 121 yards rushing and 172 yards passing with one TD. He did a great job of moving the offense and looks to be a star for years to come.

Alex Collins is coming off a great Freshman season and looks like there won't be a sophomore slump. He had 105 yards and 2 TD's

Texas got some fine-tuning done in a game vs. North Texas, a team they admittedly were looking past. Notre Dame comes to town next week and the Longhorns will need to execute and play at a high level to win.

Johnathan Gray looked incredible in his first game back and took his first touch 50-something yards for a TD. David Ash is an obvious improvement over Case McCoy and the rest of the team looks the part, too. However, Texas still needs to shore up their pass defense as North Texas' QB had his way with the Texas secondary at times.

No turnovers for Texas and they forced 2 on defense. Things are looking good for another run, but a big game with Notre Dame looms.

    UVA's Defense Holds Strong Against A&M 31-7

UVA and Texas A&M met in College Station for this out of conference battle of ranked teams. The question of the day was if the new scheme for UVA could keep up with the fast-paced, high-powered attack featuring Heisman Trophy Winner Johnny Manziel. UVA’s defense showed very early on that they wouldn’t let this game turn into a shootout. They intercepted Manziel on the first possession of the game and a quick TD on a short pass got things rolling for the Cavaliers. The first quarter was pretty quiet with a punt from A&M and then UVA exploded in the second half. They rattled off 17 points on the back of their hard-nosed defense. A huge momentum swing came on a 4th and 1 inside their own 10 where they shut down the Aggies and took the ball over on downs. Another key momentum play came right when the A&M offense got moving when their WR fumbled the ball on a short pass and it bounced right into the hands of a waiting Cavalier LB. The halftime score was 24-0 UVA.

The second half was much slower-paced than the first. The Aggies started to figure out the UVA offense, but it was too late at that point. The flex bone was built to work the clock in a lead and that’s exactly what they did. The lone score for the day for the A&M offense came in the 3rd quarter on a 28 yard pass to a wide open Laquvionte Gonzalez. The 4th quarter consisted of running the clock by UVA, giving it totheir newly-found B-Back Kyle Dockins, who had a career day with 23 ATT and 158 YDS and 2 TD. Other stats of note were that the UVA defense only gave up 220 yards on the day, with 173 coming through the air, perhaps their best performance under their new coaching staff.

Defensive POG: FS Brandon Phelps 2 INT
Offensive POG: B Back Kyle Dockins 23 ATT 158 YDS 2 TD

Good game Mike E best of luck this season.

San Diego State visits the Bulldogs..

This is the first home game I have had during the day with the sun out...It was nice...

This is also the first time I could tell my team was better then the other team...Our D ran to the ball all game long. Our DBs had nice coverage most of the day as well.

Gurley was awesome again but we limited his second half touches...

Freshman QB Ramsey is now the full time starter and he showed a nice arm today with 326 yards and 2 tds and 0 ints.

Georgia controlled this game after a slow start 48-9.

MLB #55 Dalton Santos snags first pass of game
Austin, TX -- In a battle of two of the most storied, tradition-rich, and winningest programs in college football history... The Texas Longhorns were able to defend DKR successfully against a highly-ranked Notre Dame squad and win 31-18.

Texas took an early lead thanks to a mistake in the passing game, and were able to keep that momentum rolling throughout the contest. With the score 17-6 at halftime, and Texas receiving the ball to start the 2nd half, it looked like the game was about to end early in the 3rd but a series of errors from both teams allowed ND an opportunity to make it a game.

With the ball deep in enemy territory, ND was knocking on the door and had the ball inside Texas' 5yd line. A score here would have put the Irish within a touchdown and there would still have been about 5 minutes left in the game, but Texas defense stood firm. Three clutch stops and an even more clutch Sack on 4th down really gutted the Irish. There was very little fight left in the Irish at this point, and Gray took advantage breaking the very next carry 88 yards for a game-sealing TD.

    GG IrishBearcat

One massive obstacle out of the way, the Longhorns now turn their attention to conference play where they had many close-calls and W's that could have easily been L's last year. There is no time to waste and very little room for error in the Big12's round-robin format. There are no more "forgivable" wins to teams in another division, and if the Horns want to repeat, they will have their work cut out for them.

    Week 1

Baylor Wins Battle of The Bears
    California 31
    #8 Baylor 59

Baylor's offense looked to be in mid season form week 1 as they rattled off 8 offensive touchdowns against Cal and its poor defense. The Golden Bears did just enough to keep Baylor on their toes through the first 3 quarters but the game was never really in question. Lache would make a statement Week 1 totalling 241 yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground reminding those who may have forgotten that he is one of the most dangerous weapons in all of college football. Lache's backup Shock Linwood had a great day as well in spot action as he would get 13 carries 156 yards and 1 TD of his own. Bryce Petty was efficient 16/21 and 2 TDs. The real stat of the day was Baylor's perfect 3rd down percentage 7/7 on third down conversions. Cal was able to move the ball , but had a bit of trouble finishing drives.

#2 Tide Roll out of Waco with a Win

    #2 Alabama 31
    #7 Baylor 28

A battle of top 10 teams lived up to the billing this week as Alabama and Baylor battled nearly down to the wire. Baylor would come up short though as their inability to stop the rush and losing the turnover battled proved too much to overcome. The first quarter saw both teams feeling each other out and ended 7-7 after an interception and fourth down stop halted two Alabama drives, while Baylor had a drive stall in the redzone when Petty threw an interception of his own. In the 2nd quarter it looked as if Baylor had found a chink in the Alabama armor as they would score 2 straight touchdowns to head into halftime up 21-7.

The 2nd half was a completely different story though. Alabama manhandled the Baylor defense as TJ Yeldon amassed a majority of his 246 yards on the ground after halftime. Meanwhile on offense Baylor was stymied repeatedly by turnovers and failed 3rd down conversions. Lache was the lone bright spot but he couldn't do it by himself as Alabama would tally off 24 points unanswered in the 2nd half. A late score on a 60 yard bomb by Bryce Petty had us in it down by 3 with 2 minutes left and 3 timeouts, with one stop we could have possibly made something happen. TJ Yeldon wasn't having it as he repeatedly ran the ball down our throat tossing our defenders aside like rag dolls and sealed the game in a demoralizing fashion.

hornfaninbama when you get back you will be a force to be reckoned with. Your squad is big and strong and they look it. Yeldon is a beast , most physical runner I've faced so far.

Big Plays Help Baylor Overcome Turnover Bug
    #16 Iowa 37
    #11 Baylor 56

The Bears had no time to lick their wounds after a loss to Alabama as they welcomed #16 Iowa into Waco. The defense started out poorly as for the 2nd week in a row they struggled against the run while the offense turned the ball over multiple times. Iowa running back Mark Weisman was near unstoppable as he gained 241 yards and 3 touchdowns. Bryce Petty continues to be a conundrum as he threw 4 interceptions but also found the endzone 4 times (3 passing, 1 Rushing). Not really much to say besides that this was a true shootout where neither side was very good defensively. Long passes by Bryce Petty kept us ahead just enough to hold on. Surprisingly enough Baylor did hold Iowa to 0-9 on 3rd down conversions.

This Baylor squad now has time to rest as they have 3 byes in the next 4 weeks, hopefully we can figure something out against the run.

We started he kicked off I marched for a TD...it discoed..

Start over I kick off he throws a pick I march for a TD we trade scores...

It is a tough tough thing to play D in this game...and I have a 99 overall RB back after not having him all of last year pretty much and he is a nice security blanket. We leaned heavy on him and our Oline and they paid off...That isnt to say our Freshman QB didnt play well because he did...He threw for 265 or so and 3 tds and hit a strike late to seal the game for us.

Bulldogs win this game 31-24...pretty much just a back and forth tilt where a turnover turned the tide for us and gave us the one up possession we needed.

We traveled to Mizzou and hammer them 55 - 22. The first half was pretty competitive and they moved the ball well the whole game, we just held them to FGs, and turned a couple short fields into tds.

Lawrence, KS -- Whew! Another nail-biting finish made this year's UT-KU game just as exciting as last year's matchup.

Kansas would strike first on a long TD pass. Texas got the ball and was moving it down the field, but David Ash threw a pick on his first attempt and it really sent the Longhorns into a funk. KU would score again making it 14-0 early in the 2nd quarter.

The Longhorns were able to recover, though, thanks to the running game lead by Gray. Texas had an obvious advantage in the trenches and leaned on it throughout this contest. They bullied their way to 17 straight points in under 2:30 seconds thanks to a Jayhawk turnover and were even able to sneak in a last-second FG before halftime. Texas took a 17-14 lead into the locker room.

Fast-forward to the 4th quarter. Texas and Kansas had been trading TDs and the score was set at 31-21, Texas leading. Kansas QB Jake Heaps found Andrew Turzilli for a 28yd TD and the Jayhawks surprised Texas with an onside kick attempt with 4:51 left in the game. UT called a timeout to get their hands team on the field. The ball looked to be fielded cleanly, but a gunner from KU came flying in and knocked the ball out almost as soon as it was touched.

Now, KU has the ball with a chance to take the lead. They milk the clock as best as possible, but 1:35 was way too much time for Texas. David Ash bucked up and lead the team down the field with ease, and Malcolm Brown finished the game with a filthy run. KU must have been waiting on the pass, because the blocks set up perfectly for Brown. He took an angle toward the pylon and used a violent stiff arm to neutralize the only KU defender who had a chance at the play before walking into the endzone with 0:28 left. 38-35.

The game was finally sealed with an INT as Kansas was desperate and started heaving the ball downfield. This is the type of match that tests the patience and nerves of coaches. There was almost no room for error for KU trying to beat a more talented team, and Texas put themselves in that same boat after the early INTs by David Ash.

    GG UofCWildcat

    --

Texas beat up on WVU the next week, but lost Johnathan Gray for 9 weeks...:mad::mad::doodie::doodie::doodie:
RB's Malcolm Brown and Jalen Overstreet will have to step up big-time if Texas wants to replicate or surpass their successes from last year.

Oddly had a neutral site game with Syracuse at MetLife Stadium which was pretty cool. It's happening IRL in 2014, surprised the game reflected it!

Syracuse was up 24-28 late after I threw 3 stupid picks to keep them in it and effectively hand them the lead. We punched it in with :19 seconds to down 3-0 Syracuse 31-28.

I'm all done with my CPU loss. I had 5 turnovers. Two of those were CPU boost Int's. Still can't have turnovers if I want to win. I still don't have a single int this season. Not sure how that's possible.

Beat Ole Miss 57-43. Pretty unbelievable game. It took all the 400 plus passing yards by Brandon Allen to get the win. I'm always happy to hand Old Piss a loss though. :)

    Alabama Takes Down Western Kentucky
    [IMG]
    Tide Wins 42-10

Tuscaloosa, AL- The Crimson Tide celebrated the return of their head coach with a dominating win over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and former conference foe Bobby Petrino.

TJ Yeldon led the offense with 15 carries for 156 yards and one score, but Kenyan Drake and Blake Sims topped the 100 ayrd mark as well. Sims was on target in the passing game going 11/14 for 143 yards 3 TD's and 2 interceptions Christion Jones came up with some big plays in the passing game catching 3 balls for 53 yards and a score.

The defense was dominating much of the day, the lone TD came with :46 in the fourth and the Alabama backups on the field. The defense recorded 6 sacks; two by Jeoffrey Pagan, and one each from Brandon Ivory, Lamichael Fanning, Xzavier Dickson, and Landon Collins. Collins also led the team in tackling with 8. The defense was helped out by poor kicking by WKU's kicker who went 1/4 on the day, with all three misses coming from beyond 50 yards.

    Alabama Knocks Off Auburn
    [IMG]
    Tide Drowns Tigers 45-32

Tuscaloosa, AL- Alabama took down in-state rival Auburn on Saturday and severely dented the Tigers hopes of getting a BCS bid. TJ Yeldon led the offense with 186 yards and 2 TD's on a day where it was apparent that Alabama just wanted to keep the ball out of Auburn's hands.

Alabama dominated time of posession 17:59 to 10:01, and ran the ball 44 times versus just 18 passes. But the strategy paid off as the Alabama offense ground the Auburn defense down and kept the Tiger offense from getting into a rhythm. Blake Sims finished his final game in Tuscaloosa 14/18 for 105 yards and 1 TD. Defensively Vinnie Sunseri had a great ball game coming up with 7 tackles and 1 sack. And Geno Smith returned an interception for a score to go along with his 2 tackles.

The defense did a great job grinding the Auburn running attack to a halt, and holding Auburn to a paltry 112 yards on the ground. Auburn was able to total 250 yards through the air, thanks to a solid combination of Nick Marshall and J. Johnson.

Alabama is off next week before their date with Georgia in Atlanta for the SEC title. In the immortal words of Bart Scott, "Can't Wait!"

    UVA Clenches ACC Title 34-3

UVA won their second ACC Championship in 2 years in style, putting down the Notre Dame Fighting Irish down 34-3. Notre Dame’s extremely aggressive scheme against the Flex attack from UVA worked on the opening drive, as they held the Cavs to three short runs up the middle by B-Back Dockins and a punt. Dockins would have a rough time finding space all game against a very stout D-Line from ND. The ensuing possession for ND did not fare much better, with UVA serving a 3 and out of their own. UVA attempted to make an adjustment on the next possession with going to the air and were met with an interception on the first play. Notre Dame’s offense then took charge, moving down the field with ease for a FG taking the lead 3-0. That was when UVA responded with two 20 yard pass plays in a row, and a third one a few plays later for the TD.

UVA found a way to attack the islands that the ND corners were being left on and this became the story of the game. The next ND possession resulted in an interception and UVA scored once again through the air on the very next play, with the ND safeties flying down to support the run and leaving huge holes behind them.

The second quarter was all UVA, as their defense held in the redzone with back-to-back interceptions and their offense managed to keep from turning the ball over, while putting up a modest 10 points in the quarter. The play of the game was a 76 yard bomb to A-Back Kevin Parks, who was left one-on-one with a much slower LB with no safety help over top. He scorched the defense for the TD with only 6 seconds left before halftime.

That TD really sealed the deal and ND spent the rest of the game working on their power run game. UVA managed 10 more points before the final whistle, but by that point the game was over. UVA looks to defend their title against a Texas team that topped ND earlier in the season and has looked very good all year long.

POG: OLB Max Valles- 2 INT that really killed ND’s momentum.

    Good Game IrishBearcat

    Alabama Wins SEC Title
    [IMG]
    Puts Down Dawgs 27-20
Atlanta, GA- Alabama and Georgia played an SEC title game for the ages. The first half was all defense, and in the end the game was won on the defensive side of the ball. Exactly the way the SEC title should be won.

Neither team started off well on offense, and it was a struggle for either team to move the ball. Alabama had a built in excuse. TJ Yeldon was injured on the very first offensive snap, and didn't return. So the rushing duties fell to Kenyan Drake, Derrick Henry and Blake Sims. Drake made the most of his opportunity and carried 19 times for 118 yards and a 51 yard TD run. Most of Henry's 9 carries were strong powerful runs and he ended up with 34 yards.

Alabama struggled mightily on offense the first half, luckily the defense played well enough to keep Georgia close despite 3 first half interceptions from Sims. Alabama received the ball to start the game and moved the ball just shy of midfield before Georgia forced a punt. Georgia flew down the field until the Alabama defense tightened up and held them to a FG and a 3-0 lead. The teams traded posessions from there until late in the second when Alabama tied the game on a 33 yard field goal from Josh Starks. Georgia took the ensuing posession and scored with :56 left to take a 10-3 lead into halftime.

The 3rd quarter started off much the same. Defense. Alabama and Georgia held the opposing offense to 0 points until Alabama finally got in the endzone on a 48 yard strike from Blake Sims to Amari Cooper and a 10-10 game. Unfortunately Alabama's defense decided this was the drive they needed to take a break and let Georgia storm down the field and reopen a 7 point lead on a 3 yard pile pusher by Todd Gurley.

The fourth opened with Alabama driving. Pinpoint passing, and strong running from Drake and Henry moved the Tide down the field until Drake finally pushed in from 2 yards out to tie the game again. Georgia took posession, and despite the Alabama defense giving their best effort still poked a FG through for a 20-17 lead with 2:10 left. Coach Bulgy decided to try and work the clock on the way to the endzone and leave as little time on the clock for Georgia as possible.

Alabama worked the ball downfield and were in position to score and take the lead with under :15 left. But due to poor play calling had to settle for a tying FG with :05 left. Alabama elected to kick deep and Georgia took the touchback to start at the 25 with :05 left on the clock.

Brice Ramsey took the shotgun snap, and faded back in the pocket, his protection held and he had no Alabama defensive linemen in his face as he reached back and fired the ball as far downfield as he could. The pass arced deep toward the right sideline and a scrum of defensive backs and wide receivers at the 10 yard line. 5 pairs of hands reach towards the ball, and it was hard to tell what had happened to the ball before Vinnie Sunseri broke free from the group and began streaking down the sideline. The offensive linemen and Ramsey were bunched together around midfield and Sunseri broke to his right towards the middle of the field and created just enough space to outrun the rest of the tacklers to the endzone and the SEC title.

When asked what was going through his mind as he started to realize he might have a chance to score Sunseri responded, "Don't drop the [censored] ball. I looked back and saw someone in red gaining on me, and I know I'm not the fastest guy so I had this mental image for a step or two of myself being dragged down from behind at the 1 yard line. I wasn't going to let that happen, so when I made it inside the 5 yard line I lunged for the endzone and didn't get up until I realized there was confetti all around me."

It was reminiscent of Auburn's 109 yard FG return to knock off Alabama a few seasons ago. But this time the gut punch was delivered to the other side. It's a play that will go down in SEC history and probably make the All-Time Alabama highlight video from now til the end of time.

Alabama will have one final game this season, a Sugar Bowl date with Michigan. Michigan and Alabama will pit the winningest football program in college football history against the program with more national titles than any other program. Hopefully there won't be drama like this past weekend in New Orleans in January.

Unbelievable game. One of the best I have ever had against the CPU. I saved the final play if you want to take a look.
