UVA Wins Second National Championship in a Row
UVA managed to hold off Texas in a great national championship game 27-21. Both teams ran the ball almost at will with 349 combined rushing yards in this one. UVA stormed off to a fast start taking the opening possession for a TD in less than two minutes, going 71 yards in 4 plays. Texas seemed shell-shocked for a second, going three and out and then giving up another TD in 7 plays on the next possession. With a very quick 14-0 lead UVA seemed to be in a comfortable position, but Texas had other plans. They answered on the next possession with a strike for 46 yards to their speedy slot receiver, whom UVA was forced to watch for the rest of the game. With this opening, Texas was able to run the ball very successfully for the rest of the game.

UVA drove the field once again with a more patient drive on their next possession, eventually scoring on a 6 yard run by HB Kyle Dockins. UVAs defense answered once again with another stop, but David Watford gave Texas a huge momentum-shifting play with an INT to MLB D. Santos on a very rangy play near the sideline. This was an extremely costly mistake, and Watford had a rough time coming back from it for the rest of the game. Texas took the opportunity to score on a drive that consisted of not a single pass play. They were using their big, powerful linemen up the middle and their running backs played an outstanding game, hitting the holes hard, breaking tackles, and falling forward for extra yards with every carry. This adjustment was a great one by the offensive coordinator, as the Longhorn offense ended the game with a TOP advantage of 17:38-10:22 and they only threw the ball 8 times the entire game. UVAs interior simply had no answers for the Longhorn run game. UVA did manage to put together a drive at the end of the half to score a field goal, but it was a lucky 3 points at that, with two dropped interceptions by the Texas secondary.

The second half looked like one long game of keep-away from both sides. Texas got the ball at the half and worked it down the field slowly but surely, converting on 4 third downs to eventually punch it in with Gray on a 6 yard run. UVA then took the ball down the field in response, relying heavily on their inside run game to keep the clock ticking. It looked as if they would score with ease, but they hit a road block inside the Texas 5 and had to settle for a FG. With 5 minutes left in the game and a score of 27-21 UVA, things got very interesting. Texas had a straightforward gameplan: continue their run game that had been successful and score a TD with no time left to keep Watford from getting a shot to win the game. On a very meticulously manufactured drive, Texas slowly worked down the field with their HB duo of Gray and Brown, converting third downs and wearing down the UVA defense. Eventually they got inside the UVA 5 with 13 seconds left and 1 timeout. First down: a screen pass to the left that was barely stopped for a gain of 1 yd. Second down: a power run from a 2TE 1FB 1HB set that managed 3 yards to bring the ball to the 3 yard line. Timeout Texas. Third Down: Drag route to a wide open WR Sanders who caught the ball and got met with four swarming UVA defenders that teamed up to bring him down on the 1 yard line. And Texas could do nothing but watch the clock tick down the last few seconds as UVA stormed the field in victory for their second national championship.

POG: B-Back Kyle Dockins- 13 ATT 115 YDS 1 TD

Great game MaxATX34 that was about as close as they get. You made great adjustments on both sides of the ball, but I'm already working on the gameplan against those adjustments for the next time we meet so get ready. Cant wait to play again man.

    Great game!

I thought I had it at the end, but your defense played great all game and made the tackle when it counted too.

That Santos pick was really crucial, though. I was desperate for anything at that point and was starting to imagine those user game beat downs UVA has dealt out in the past... really glad I didn't give up on that route!

Same here man. Really good game very fun and looking forward to getting another shot.

And you are the one that won! Don't think I won't have something cooked up for you! I didn't even know you ran the flex like that until a few minutes before our game! :p

Haha I didn't run it last year but it's my favorite offense to run. Even if it's not always the easiest one. Your o-line and HBs were eating me up in the second half though.
