    2014 Oklahoma Sooners

    FIU - 14
    Oklahoma 35

The turnover bug struck again as we had 3, 2 int 1 fumble. Early on it looked as if the running game was going to give us fits as FIU HB Andrews broke an 81 yard TD run. But the D would stiffen and he finished with 133 yards. Senior DE Watson finished with 4 sacks and a FF.

On offense we looked to open things up a little more. Senior QB Sean Hunter beat out last years start Joseph Culp for the starting job. Hunter had his ups and downs this game going 21/34 289 yards and 4 TD, he also had 2 picks, 1 was in the end zone. Our 2 young WR had big first games. Sophomore WR Mike Harris had a solid freshman year and is off to a great start. He totaled 5 receptions for 115 yards and 2 TD. True Freshman Andy Marks also had a good game with 9 catches for 127 yards and a TD. The run game was solid but not spectacular. We have decided to go with a running back by committee approach this year. Senior HB's Houston and Fowler Combined for 117 yards and a TD.

    Next up the Miami Hurricanes.

Miami would jump out of the gate quick and go up 10-0 aided by an interception. Oklahoma was able to weather the storm and score the next 28 points to go up 28-10 at the half. It got a little crazy before halftime with both teams throwing a pair of INTs trying to score.

It was not a big offensive game. Miami was held to 61 rushing yards and 154 passing yards. His young WR's had a few drops. Oklahoma was limited to 30 carries for 100 yards on the ground, but managed 5 rushing TD's, 4 of them of from 4 yards or closer.

Next up for the Sooners is Tulsa.

The Sooners improved to 3-0 with a dominating win over Tulsa. We held Tulsa to 197 yards of total offense, only 16 of which was rushing yards. The offense once again relied on the passing game. WR's Mike Harris(3-93-1TD) and Andy Marks(7-139-1TD) are proving to be a nice combination. We are still having trouble with INT's but hope to work through that.

Next week we have a bye.

Defense and special teams won this game for the Sooners. Oklahoma finally won the turnover battle, forcing 2 and committing none for a change. Senior CB Clint Jones took one INT back for a TD. DE Shelton Walton had his second 4 sack game of the season.

I am proud of the offense for not committing any turnovers, but other than that they played like crap. Sean Hunter had completed only 4 of 16 passes in the first half, but to his defense he was under pressure all game long. The o-line gave up 6 sacks. HB Stephen Houston did manage to break a 57 yard TD. WR Andy Marks totaled 6 rec for 111 yards, he also added a 54 yard punt return for a TD.

Next week the offense better show up. We take on Texas in the annual Red River game. Last year Texas beat us with ease. We get them at home this year and hope we can return the favor.

Texas played this game in honor of coach Cnic. Their offense could not be stopped. HB Fast Willie Mills averaged 14.8 yards a touch as he totaled 200 rushing and 139 receiving yards. Oklahoma tried to stay in it, but had no resemblance of a running game. This forced us to the air and WR's Andy Marks and Mike Harris both had over 100 receiving yards. But Sean Hunter would be picked off 5 times just trying to keep the Sooners in this one. It was actually 28-28 at the end of the 3rd quarter, but the Longhorns dominated the entire 4th quarter to seal the win.

Oklahoma came out flat. For the second straight week we threw five interceptions. The inability to get a ground game going is having an effect on the QB's. They feel the pressure to carry the offense. After Sean Hunter threw five picks against Texas we decided to go with Joseph Culp at QB. That experiment lasted exactly one quarter as Culp threw 3 ints in the first quarter. The opening drive of the game was looking good until HB Stephen Houston fumbled in the redzone that was returned 92 yards for a TD. We would not have the lead all game until the last 15 seconds.

Once again WR's Mike Harris(8-137-3TD) and Andy Marks(7-168-0TD) was able to keep the Sooners in the game. They both made several clutch plays.

The turnover factory at OU must be stopped.

Great defensive game(or poor offensive showings ) on both sides of the ball. Oklahoma was held to 298 total offense while Texas Texas gained 239 yards of total offense.

The Red Raiders had the ball early in the first quarter and were driving before an INT in the redzone ended the drive. Oklahoma marched down the field and found their selves with a 4th and 1 on the Tech 1 yard line. We decided to go for it and Herbert Fowler punched it in for the 1 yard score. Tech added a Field Goal right before half. The teams traded TD's in the second half. Tech scored their last TD with about 4 minutes left in the game. The Sooners were then able to run out the clock with their ground game.

Player of the Game Herbert Fowler 19 carries 83 yards 2 TD's, 2 receptions 28 yards

This was a great game between the two school. Oklahoma welcomed back HB Stephen Houston. Houston had missed the previous few games. He did not disappoint. The first play of the game Houston had a 72 yard TD run. He would go on to finish with 193 yards and 3 TD. It would not be a happy ending for the senior as he suffered another injury that will keep him out of the bowl game.

Fast forward to the 4th quarter. The Sooners entered the quarter with a 14 point lead and everything was looking good. VT was not about to give up. They had a nice drive to start the quarter that ended in a 1 yard Holloway TD. Oklahoma had about 4 minutes left and seemed to have things in control. We were driving down to near the redzone when our offense ran out of gas. We thought we had an easy field goal to put us up 10 with about 2 minutes left. But our kicked pushed it wide left. VT had a chance and capitalized. They scored the game tying TD with only 6 seconds left in the game, another Holloway run from 2 yards out.

    OT

VT won the coin toss and elected to receive. On 2nd or 3rd down, cannot remember which, DE Watson collected his 12 tackle and 3rd sack of the game. VT would hit a 51 yard FG to go up 3.

Oklahoma quickly got to the 5 yard line and looked to punch in the game winning TD. 1st down Fowler had a 4 yard run to the 1 yard line. 2nd down we gave the ball to the FB who was stuffed, but there was a holding call on the play. It was now 2nd and 11. Incomplete pass. Crap I didnt want another FG attempt after missing one earlier. One would not be needed. Heisman candidate Andy Marks hauls in the game winner to finish off VT.

Great game DJ. That was one of the most fun online games I have been involved in.

This is the 2nd straight season that Oklahoma has played in the Cotton Bowl. Last year we were dominated by Alabama. HB Trent Richardson ran wild against our defense, going for 250+ yards. We did not want to see a similar performance against the Bulldogs.

    1st Quarter
Georgia got the ball first and moved the ball at will. HB Winston finished the drive with a 36 yard TD run. Here we go again.... Oklahoma was not having much luck on offense. The WR's were dropping balls, 8 in total on the game. 3 were on the opening drive. But we some how managed to get into the red-zone. Senior QB Harris would once again throw a red-zone INT.

    2nd Quarter
Both offense would slow down. It wasn't until late in the quarter that Oklahoma finally got a drive going. Senior HB Herbert Fowler was beginning to find some running room and finished the drive with a 1 yard run. Not to be out done, Bulldog HB Winston would break a 76 yard TD run just 15 seconds later. Oklahoma would come right back and score before halftime. Harris would connect with Kemp for a 12 yard TD strike.

    3rd Quarter
Late in the quarter, Georgia was driving..looking to take the lead. Senior CB Jeremy Stover may have saved the game when he intercepted a pass to kill the drive.

    4th Quarter
After the INT, the Sooners would drive down and kick a go ahead 21 yard FG. After that the Sooner D and running game was able to finish off the feisty Bulldogs.

Oklahoma finishes the season with a bowl win for the first time in the coach Ceewo era. We finished 11-2 with losses to Texas and Baylor(ugh). The seniors played well in the bowl game.

Looking forward to next year we are excited about the continued development of WR Mike Harris(jr) and WR Andy Marks(fr). Both played extremely well. We also will lose 2 senior HB's who combined for 1244 yards and 22 TD. Redshirt Freshman Chaz Benjamin will have big shoes to fill.
